    Thermal Balaclava

Sometimes simple kit like Pearl Izumi's Thermal Balaclava does the trick. And those times are typically when the mercury is registering in the low 30s and you've got a healthy plateful of base miles to grind out. The Thermal Balaclava is made from Pearl's P.R.O. Thermal Dry fabric, which pulls moisture from your thinking appendage and insulates with a low-pile, brushed inner face. Warm, dry—simple.

    • A cycling balaclava for days in the low 30s
    • Thermal Dry fabric manages moisture while insulating
    • Low profile construction fits under helmet like a ninja
    • Reflective elements help maintain visibility

    Way undersized

Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
    Fit:Runs small

It hurt to get this on over my head and was way too tight once I did. I thought my wife or 10 year old son might be able to use, but it was too small for them as well! The design and quality seemed fine, typical of Pearl Izumi, but they got the sizing entirely wrong.

Great product, great fit. Perfect for rides in the 30s.

    First Impressions

Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love the ability to cover my nose or mouth or both, or none. The flexibility in the face coverage is outstanding.

    A great balaclava

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

I like this one best after trying several others. It is a tight fit on my medium size head. It feels really tight so it might be discouraging at first but after putting it on and riding for a couple of hours, it was business as usual. If you have a very large head then perhaps it would be a problem. The material feel medium thick and overall construction seem excellent. I like the hinged face mask, as it could be pulled down to the chin independent of the cap. There is also sub chin mask inside, so basically it has a chin mask and a face mask. I have ridden it in the 30s degree F and it felt great. I am sure it could be used for a much colder condition. The only thing I like to improve would be to have the cap come down further on my forehead, as it is designed to seat a little high up there regardless of how much I try to pull it down. I also customized mine by cutting a hole around my mouth area so I can breath through my mouth without pulling the face mask down. Overall, I think this balaclava is a better one than most other common brands. Thanks!
