Cozy tights for mild winter riding

As summer fades into fall, temperatures drop, and we once again find ourselves slipping on extra layers before we head out to ride. Where the winters are mild, the intensity of burly, winter-weight fabrics is overkill—yet leg warmers alone don't get the job done. When the mercury hangs low, slip into the Pearl Izumi Sugar Thermal Women's Tights to take the edge off of the crisp air without the extra bulk.

Made from Izumi's Select Thermal fabric, the tights use a six-panel, anatomic design that contours to your body for a superb fit. Select Thermal fabric is a mid-level material that works to keeps most cyclists warm into the low-40s or mid-30s, though for more extreme conditions, that contoured fit layers well under storm pants. Along with being warm, Select Thermal moves moisture away from the skin during your ride. So, you'll stay dry and comfortable for miles on end.

A women's Tour 3D chamois adds to the comfort of the Sugar Thermal Tights. Made with an anatomic design, this two-layer chamois protects you on shorter training rides. The breathable four-way stretch microfiber top-layer moves with you and wicks moisture away from your body, while the Tour 3D's variable density padding relieves pressure and maintains blood flow.

  • Thermal tights for layering on winter rides
  • Form-fitting silhouette rides solo or layers under storm pants
  • Two-layer chamois provides comfort during pre-season base miles

Digging these tights

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Perfect cool weather riding tights, my wife is a big fan so far. The build in chamois fits well and comfortably, and they stay up well on rides. Also, they fit well under baggies for mountain bike rides on chilly days.

Love these tights!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small
  • Height: 5'5"
  • Weight: 130lbs

I bought these thinking they were for cold weather....they are not. They are great for early fall/spring...50 degrees....not 30. That being said - we're having a warm winter so I've worn these many times now. they fit so nicely! They are comfortable and look great. I'd recommend these.

A Really Good Chamois

I have worn these in sub-35 degree weather and can recommend them for cold conditions down to freezing temps. In fact, I was impressed at how warm and comfortable they were since the fabric isn't bulky like a number of thermal tights I've worn.

The waistband is very comfortable - It's nice and wide and doesn't dig into your waist. I don't notice it at all while riding.

A Really Good Chamois

One of the reasons I went with the Sugar tights is the chamois. It's NOT the size of a pole vault pit. What is it with cycling apparel manufacturers and the size of women's chamois? What on earth do they think we are doing that warrants a chamois the size of Texas? Gah! Don't get me started. Anyway, the Sugar tights have a really nice quality chamois. It's comfortable and doesn't feel like you're wearing a Huggies diaper - a big plus in my opinion.

A Really Good Chamois

Nice for all weather

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I was concerned about getting too hot in these on longer rides, but they are very breathable. They fit nice and are about as flattering as bike pants can be. Well made too.

Which means model has the yellow stripe? I am not interested in yellow stitching.

Hi Janice, in the pull down menu, if you just select 'Black'- it will be all black- stitching included.

are these meant to be worn with bike shorts...

Best Answer

These have a built in chamois. If you aren't the kind of person that wears leggings as pants... Then you could definitely wear a pair of baggies (or whatever) over these! But you don't have to - these can be worn alone!
