Quest Splice Short
We can understand wearing street clothes when you ride to the store a few blocks away for a half gallon of milk and the Sunday times, but we can't, in good conscience, recommend anything but cycling shorts for your regular workday commute. If you're looking into investing in your first pair, the Pearl Izumi Quest Splice Short makes a great introduction. With a price that's friendly to your wallet and the plush Select Escape 1:1 chamois standing between you and the saddle with supportive foam, the Quest Splice enjoys a simple, and effective, construction.
Pearl uses a six-panel design to construct the Quest Splice, with panels composed of nylon and Lycra fibers to provide a mix of stretchy support and optimal moisture transfer on sunny weekend rides and warm commutes. The short achieves a classic cycling silhouette, but with a more comfort-based fit than ultra-contoured racing kit. Silicone grippers line each leg hem, holding the short in place without pinching or chafing, and BioViz reflective accents work to improve your visibility during low-light conditions.

Do not Purchase!
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Runs small
Suggest look for another product as there is barely any cushion for short or medium duration rides ranging from 45 mins to 2 hours. I have not been able to use these shorts much; wish was able to return them for a refund or get an exchange. I have enjoyed using Pearl Izumi gear, but this one is a NO NO!

These used to be great...
- I've used it several times
Note: As of 12/01/2019, the image of the chamois shown is incorrect - it is showing the old (good) design, not the new (uncomfortable) one. These used to be great shorts until PI started cutting corners. The old shorts had a good chamois made with the human anatomy in mind, but these new ones just have a flat, non-contoured pad inside. I had my last pairs for several years and upon going to replace them, I'm finding that the same models of shorts now have a chamois so uncomfortable I can't even wear them on a 7 mile commute without extreme chafing. I've included a photo showing old vs new chamois. I've been trying to get in touch with PI about this, but every time I mention it they stop responding - I'm assuming because they know they made a terrible design change. Of course they can offer a lifetime warranty on their products, because the product life is infinite when you can't wear them. Backcountry customer service is great through, I have no complaints about them.

Michael K right on. Glad he pointed this out and the inferiority of the new chamois.

Affordable and Comfortable Shorts
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I gave this as a gift to my nephew who loves this! He is an amateur cyclist who has a number of other cycling shorts and has said that this one is one of his favorites! The material is easy to care for and dries off fast. It is also comfortable to wear and makes all those cycling rides all the more enjoyable!

great value comfortable shorts
- I've put it through the wringer
- True to size
- Size Bought
- 5` 11"
- 200 lbs
these were the first shorts i ever bought, they were very comfortable and fit perfect. they are also longer than the euro shorts.. which makes them even nicer. i then purchased more expensive shorts like castelli, and other higher end pearl izumis, and to be honest, they all feel similar... it's a great value, you cant go wrong with these.
