Pro Short
Put an end to ending rides early because of short discomfort with the Pro Short from Pearl Izumi. Built with its most supportive and breathable PRO Escape 1:1 chamois and super soft Italian PRO Transfer fabric, this short is ideal for everyday use and a worthy companion on race day.
It's cut in its Form-Fit so it sits close to the body and engages stretch and compression while just seven carefully engineered panels are used to minimize seaming for a perfect contour to your body. The seamless hem creates a smooth transition from short to the skin for a sleek, high-performance look and feel, and a printed silicone gripper holds it securely in place during the course of your ride. The chamois offers a smooth next to skin fit with a free-floating, dynamic stretch top sheet, and 3-layer suspension core for unrivaled comfort even over the roughest roads.

These are great "all day" shorts. They have very clean detailing, grippy cuffs, good weight fabric that's neither too constricting nor too flimsy. The grippy cuffs can make getting them on a little tricky, but once in place, they're about as comfortable as you'll find. The chamois is a little thicker than other shorts, but seems to wick well and stay comfortable for several hour rides.

Most Comfortable Short

All of my cycling shorts in the past 20 years or so have been Pearl Izumi, but I had never purchased the Pro level short. These almost feel like I am not wearing cycling shorts. Extremely comfortable and they stay in place once I have them on. I am 5 ' 9" and weigh 225; so not a light rider. For me at least, these were / are worth the price and I will most likely order another pair soon while they are available. The size I purchased is XL. The fabric of the short is much lighter; more pliable. Perfect, for me.

These have become my favorite shorts. The chamois while a little thick are very comfortable. They are a bit pricey but worth the money for no butt pain. I have both the black and blue paisley shorts. I bought both on sale for around $120.

I've been wearing Pearl Izumi Pro shorts for the past 8 or 10 years. They've always fit me perfectly. However, this new design is terrible... at least as far as I'm concerned. I am 5'11" and weigh 195, so I ordered the XL. The problem for me was that the waist is cut very low in the back. As soon as I got on my bike, the waistband, such as it is, started hiking down embarrassingly low on my butt. I had to keep pulling it back up, which is not what any sentient cyclist wants to do while riding. Can't believe PI messed up on the new design so badly. Now I have to find another company to get my shorts from!

The shorts are terrible. The waistband is completely useless and they are impossible to keep up. Complete rip-off.

The XL is a bit too large and will try to L to see if it fits better. The shorts don't slip and also don't curl under by belly. Feels really good but need to make sure I get the right fit.

Best PI short too date. Fabric molds to skin and leg grippers stay in place. I prefer large though some my build would go medium. . Waist could be a tad higher but under jersey should not reveal. Pad is thick but compresses after a couple rides to just right. Feel like they disappear under you while riding, which is what you want. Great value bought on sale.

The best part about these shorts is definitely the PRO Escape 1:1 chamois. It's not bulky like some other brands but it's super comfortable. I've mainly been wearing these as liner shorts under my mountain biking shorts. I prefer bibs for road/gravel riding. The laser cut leg openings with silicone leg grippers are some of the best I've experienced in shorts. The shorts just blend into your skin if that makes sense. I think that they run a little small so if you are in between sizes it would be safest to go up to the larger size.

I am 5'10" 175 (wear 34 waist pants) and have had Pearl Izumi shorts previously. I ordered Medium and Large. In other Pearls and other makes I seem to be sized between a Large and Medium. This pair of Pearl Izumis I noticed it said Fitted on tag. The Large fit me great. Most weekend rides are 3-5 hrs. long (50 miles and up) the chamois kept everything comfortable. Only wish offered in some different colors than black.

Very disappointed with PI Pro Short (retail $170.00). Have been wearing PI Pro Shorts for years with great results for quality of fabric, fit, compression and durability. The "New" PI Pro Shorts have new poor quality, very thin fabric and finishing, lack proper compression throughout the shorts at waist and legs, have an internal chamois that is way to large and thick (feels like what I imagine wearing Depends would feel like) and with a 10.5" inseam, the shorts are way too long and cause pulling around back of the knee tendons when climbing out of the saddle (I am 6'1, 158#, waist 31). Returned for refund and will now be trying to find earlier version of these same shorts or will simple abandon PI brand for upper tier shorts and pick a competing brand after trying on at local retail bicycle shops instead of taking another $300+ chance on this brand. Had a pair of the PRO Elite shorts in XL and wanted another pair because they were a tad bit large. Got the L in the PRO short and had to return as they were way to small (felt like I was putting them on over a pair of jeans). Exchanged for PRO in an XL and while they fit, they would not stay up (probably looked like a plumber from behind). The PRO short do not have a waste band as robust as the PRO Escape. Runs true to size I guess, except for no waste band.

PS - The $300+ figure above referenced is for the two pair of PI Pro shorts I ordered, so there is no confusion. Returned them both. Gregg S. from Reno, NV
