    Light speed.

Light up the ride in the Pearl Izumi men's P.R.O. Leader III Shoes. Weighing in at a claimed featherweight of just 235g and featuring a Second Skin upper and stiff sole, these shoes let your feet effortlessly float over the pedals. Get out of the saddle and attack with confidence that minimized rotating weight and efficient power transfer equals snappy acceleration and lightning fast turnover.

Pearl fashions the P.R.O. Leader III with its Seamless 0.9-millimeter Second Skin Upper, a revolutionary design that involves welding a non-stretch synthetic leather to highly breathable mesh. Dubbed the Power Web, this upper design conforms to your foot while eliminating pressure points and hot spots. As an added bonus, its synthetic material won't stretch or deform over time, further reinforcing durability and consistent fit.

The Leader III utilizes two micro-adjustable Boa dials across the top of the shoe for a secure fit with wide anchor points to evenly distribute lacing pressure and eliminate bunching along the upper. This particular type of Boa closure pulls the wire with equal tension from each side of the shoe, uniformly tightening the cable instead of pulling primarily from one side. Underfoot, Pearl's new 1:1 Integrated Power Plate loses its predecessor's lasting board while maintaining exceptional stiffness and achieving a minimalist stack height of just five millimeters.

    • Pro-level racing shoes for netting every advantage
    • Pearl's stiffest sole features a low, efficient stack height
    • Mid- and forefoot adjustable independently
    • Boa dials pull from either side to wrap the foot
    • Power Web upper minimizes bulk without compromising security
    • Adjustable arch support helps maintain comfort over long rides

    long term review

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 44

I have had these shoes for almost a year (5000ish miles).
    Pros: Stiff, comfortable, light weight.
Cons: (1)The mesh is a magnet for dirt and is hard to clean. After the first damp morning they just always looked dirty.
    (2) They scuff really, really easily. I am actually nervous they will tear in some spots
    (3) mesh screen on the sole become unattached on both shoes. I had to put a little piece of duct tape otherwise sand/road grim would end up in my shoe.

Regretfully, I don't think they will make it another year. Why a 3? They function great, the Competitive cyclist price is terrific (although I paid more than the current $150).
Sizing: Im usually a 43, had to order a 44.

    very comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Right out of the box these were one of the more comfortable shoes that I've put on. Adjustment is easy and accurate. I use speedplay and my previous shoes were speedplay specific, these had a pretty low stack so even with the adapter I didn't have to adjust my saddle at all. Performance I give it 4 out of 5 stars. they are stiff in the sole but the shoes don't feel quite as stiff as some of the other high end shoes I've worn. I think maybe that comfort level has something to do with that and so there is some give and take. I would say that 90% of riders would really like them, then there will be a few that will find them a little soft. fit was just a tad on the small side. I work a half size larger than i do in Sidi and Lake, same size as I wear in Giro. In the end I'm happy with them and would recommend to most people I know. feel free to contact me with any particular questions on them.

    Great shoes and great service!

Originally ordered the Pro Leader 2 but had to return for size. They didn't have the 2 in my size so I ordered the Pro Leader 3, and I am GLAD I did. I really can't imagine a better cycling shoe. Very comfortable, light and easy to adjust!

    Great Shoe, Customer Service Fantastic

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

Great shoe, very lightweight and adjusts like a glove! They do run small so size up 1 size. On a side note, I have to say that the Backcountry customer service is fantastic. My first order of these shoes turned out to be too small and they were so helpful and fast getting me an exchange pair. Thanks!!!
