Find your In-R-Cool.

The Pearl Izumi catalog is loaded with items that fall neatly into the ‘exactly what you need’ category. Elite in-R-Cool shorts just happen to fall easily into that category, as well. Elite shorts transform too-hot-to-ride days into comfortable-temperature days, at least for your posterior, with smart design and heat-beating technology.

The Elite’s main body fabric is lightweight, stretchy, Transfer In-R-Cool. It’s been treated with ColdBlack, which reduces the surface temperature of the fabric by reflecting heat instead of absorbing it.

For the insert, Pearl Izumi chose its Elite 3D chamois. The insert’s 3-layer construction incorporates variable density padding and a four-way stretch anatomic shape. This shape uses Pearl Izumi’s Pressure Relief Channel to eliminate numbness and promote comfort during long rides. It also incorporates carbon yarns to control odor and aid in moisture management.

Quality shorts, great chamois

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I have about 500 miles in these shorts. Quality fabric that seems to be holding up well through repeated washings. (I air dry.). The shorts have great grip around the leg openings and they don't ride up. The chamois (I call I it that but it's synthetic) is well and perfectly padded for me. I ordered medium which were way too tight, and exchanged for Large which fit just right. Not flashy looking and conservative logo detailing. Still look like new and I would buy again.

Great Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I have worn PI shorts over 10 years. They are awesome. I like the design changes in the leg grip and the compression. I read several reviews before ordering so ordered L instead of M. They were right the large fits great and is comfortable even on LONG rides.

At last something fits me!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

In the last few weeks I've become a little discouraged with ordering cycle clothing as I've had to return 2 Jerseys and a pair of shorts simply because the sizing was crazy small for me, even though I'd ordered larger sizes than I needed! What is it with these cycling clothing companies, and on what planet do they reckon their clothing fits a normal humanoid sized person! Thankfully, Competitive Cyclist were great, not only in getting the stuff to me in the first place, but the ease and efficiency in which they dealt with my returned products.

So, with some trepidation, I thought I'd try to order some new shorts, and selected the Pearl Izumi Elites. They came quickly and I gingerly opened the bag wondering whether this time I'd get a correct size. Straight away I could see that they did indeed look as if they would fit a normal sized person, and when I tried them on they were very comfortable. A short 30 mile ride confirmed that they were indeed very comfortable, the padding was just right, not too much, and not too little, and they didn't creep up my legs like some other manufactures shorts!
All in all a quality product that is very well made, comfortable and well fitting, and at a great price. I would strongly recommend this product!

Great Value Bike Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I ride about 15-1700 miles/yr on a Specialized CrossTrail. I'm 6'/200# and I bought these shorts after seeing them in a B&M store. I have about 100 miles on them including a hard 32 mile ride with a couple of fair climbs. I am very happy with the comfort in the seat and crotch. I particularly like the bottom of the legs that have 2" wide band that keeps the leg firmly but comfortably in place. My last PI shorts just had a narrow hem that stretched out badly so it looked like I had bell bottoms on. I gave it 4/5 because of the limited use so far. If they last like my last PIs, then they'd rate a 5

Best shorts I've ever owned

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I've got a long, top-heavy body, shorter legs (30" inseam), still a bit of a gut / workin' on it - waist is 36-37" ish. Bought size large. My older shorts are Ms. These PIs fit great. Snug, but not uncomfortable. I really like the way they're stitched together - noticeably less resistance when pedaling than my Sugois, 360s, and LG bibs. Material is dense and feels high-end, and breathes well. The chamois is cushy without being awkward or bulky, and well laid out, but it has compressed some after a few wears and washes (still easily the best of my collection)

Great training shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

Fit perfectly. Plenty of padding with no chafing. All of my racing is triathlons (and I have a tri suite for those), but for training rides in the 10 -25 mi range, these are extremely comfortable.

Great shorts, beats castelli, giordana

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I have lots of variety of shorts, castelli, giordana, sugoi...
i started wearing pearl izumi as a beginner then i wanted to step up and spend more, i tried big brands and there IS NOTHING LIKE THESE SHORTS... they are amazing, american fit, long inseam, fit is great, they don't move, they dont sweat, super dry and very comfortable.

Great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

These shorts are very comfortable, and very cool. I have worn these shorts on indoor bike, as well as my road bike. This is my first pair of PI Elite shorts, but I will definitely be buying a few more pairs. These are a bargain at the sale price.

Excellent shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I use the pro bibs for distance riding, but I love these for my daily commute to and from work. The chamois is comfy and they don't ride up. If you can get them on sale, it's a no-brainer.

33" waist.

Very nice shorts at $50

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

5'-9 190 LBs. 34" waist, Mediums TOO TIGHT. They run small. Order one size up from older PI shorts. Returned and ordered Larges.

Great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Others have mentioned they run small. I thought so too when I first put them on but after a couple of rides they feel perfect just like my attack shorts. These shorts are far superior to the attack shorts I have worn for years. Of course they retail for a lot more money. Great price here. 35in. waist.

Way small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

Nice shorts but get a size bigger or you'll be sending them back. I haven't gotten any bigger but pearl Izumi just seems to be getting smaller.

Sizing runs small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I have owned 3 or more Pearl bike shorts, all size large and they fit great. These run a full size small, so now i fit an XL. The large size I bought are tiny and measure 2 inches smaller in the waist from my existing 2 pairs of PI shorts. I still measure 35 1/2 to 36 waist, so???

Great for long rides

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I hoped I'd be getting superior comfort for the price I paid ... and I did! Everyone's anatomy is different and this one may not work for you but it is probably the most comfortable pair of cycling shorts I own.

My first ride in these was around 55 miles and I didn't feel any sore/hot spots or chafing. That - to me - is the true test. I'm doing a century next weekend and these will be my go-to shorts.

I have a few other pairs (not Elite In-R-Cool) that are getting worn out and aren't as comfortable as they once were (and, in fact, were never as comfortable as these to begin with). I'll be replacing those with more of these!

little pain with these

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I just got into biking and was worried about being sore. These shorts were recommended and so far they have been great. It usually takes about an hour of riding before I feel any soreness. I have ridden in both hot and cooler temps and they have worked great. I have nothing to compare them against but I would recommend them to bikers just starting out.
