    Long sleeves for shoulder seasons.

Whether you're enjoying a reprieve from summer's heat with a backdrop of fall foliage or spinning through a landscape just awakening after a winter slumber, autumn and spring are arguably the two best times to be in the saddle. The only downfall is the chill, and that makes kit like Pearl Izumi's Elite Escape Thermal Jersey indispensable when the temperatures are hovering in that shoulder-season range of 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Elite Escape Thermal owes its seasonal temperament to Pearl's Thermal Fleece fabric, a material with a brushed, inner face to maintain a microclimate of warmth next to your skin or base layer. When the thermometer drops, staying dry is crucial to staying warm. Pearl bills the Thermal Fleece as having every bit as much wicking prowess as its summer-weight Transfer materials, but we'd still recommend a lightweight base layer to help prevent a clammy chill after a mid-winter's climb.

The jersey's Escape fit is in line with what we've historically expected from Pearl Izumi. Escape is a more accommodating, less painted-on fit that benefits cold-weather gear by allowing for additional sub-layering options. A roomier cut doesn't mean a sloppy drape, though, because the jersey is finished with an elastic, silicone-grip hem to ensure coverage. An internally welted zipper protects base layers from snags and abrasion while offering additional protection from the elements.

The usual three rear pockets are both deeper than usual and supplemented with two additional pockets, providing capacious storage space to hold things like headbands and gloves in the inevitable event that you have to shed or don additional layers as the temperatures rise and fall with the winter sun. The center rear pocket is further reinforced with a panel of Softshell Lite material, which provides a bit of water-resistance to fend off the rooster tails of spring, and the jersey itself features reflective details to help you stay visible on damp, overcast days.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 180lbs

Performed nice on this 35 degree sunny morning ( no wind). I only wore a short sleeve wicking t-shirt with this jersey and my body temp could be regulated nicely with the front zipper.

Happy with my purchase. Quality is on par with my other pearl gear so I expect to get years of service out of this purchase.

    High Quality

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 190lbs

Nice material, another great product from Pearl Izumi. Sizing is fairly close, however, if you want more room go up one size. It depends on how snug you want it to fit. A little more room offers extra layering and freedom to move if you desire that type of fit.

    Great for cool weather rides

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bought a large and its a good fit for 5'11, 165 lbs. Still room for a base layer without getting too tight. Fabric and construction seem high quality.

    Pearl Escape thermal jersey

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great jersey. As somebody else noted, you can ride at 40 degrees with a base layer and still be comfortable. The fit is athletic, but not constraining. Perhaps a little tight in the neck.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'6"
    • Weight: 205lbs

This is a great piece for those colder mornings, when you don't want to wear arm warmers or a heavy jacket. It's a comfortable fit, but, not too loose. If warn with a base layer, you can probably get away with wearing down to about 40-45 degrees.

    Nice Spring/Fall Weather Jersey

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

Its a nice Jersey, excellent back pockets. It just about right for the 45-60 degree range. I was looking for something that has a bit heavier and more wind resistance than a standard thermal Jersey and its just about right. Its perfect for the temperature range between a soft shell jacket and a light thermal Jersey. I own several PI Jerseys and Jackets in XL and this ran a bit smaller than I expected.

    Really Warm and Great Fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 195lbs

The jersey is very comfortable and has enough room to wear a base layer without feeling too constrictive. I've taken it on several long chilly rides without any issue.
