Attack Glove

Not only do the Pearl Izumi Attack Gloves protect your hands, but they also enhance your grip without sacrificing any padding. And while these benefits often contribute to either overheating or cutting off the circulation of the hand, the Attack Gloves are designed for serious saddle time. In other words, you gain all of the benefits without any of the sacrifices.

Pearl Izumi circumvents the issue of blood flow by employing its expertise in glove fit to minimize any fabric bunching around the palm. Additionally, Izumi placed padding around the Ulner and Median nerves—where fatigue and loss of circulation are prone to happen. This, along with the soft and durable synthetic-leather palm, contributes to excellent handlebar feel and a superior grip. To prevent overheating, Pearl Izumi uses stretchy mesh at the back of the hand in order to wick perspiration and to provide a cooling airflow. However, to wipe brow sweat on-the-fly, the thumb panel consists of a soft, absorbent terry cloth. At the cuff, a hook-and-loop strap and easy-off tab ease your entry and exit of the glove.

STITCHING COMING OUT AFTER 1ST RIDE

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've been wearing PEARL iZUMi gloves for two years and found them to be excellent. This brand new pair started unraveling at the seams in the palm during the first 4 hour ride. In addition to that the pad is small and very hard, so the gloves are not as nice as my previous pair. Like the pad or not, the quality is not there where it counts. What good is a glove that can't hold up for at least a few months.

Padding is Odd and not effective

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I totally agree with Clarence and Louis. The padding in the middle of the palm seemed like a good idea in the store but first, as Clarence says, there is no padding in or around the heel of the glove and since I ride on the hoods a lot, my hands scream at me after a short time into the ride. Also, as Louis said, the padding in the palm feels like a lump after a while and I get a numbing sensation in my hands and thumbs. Large size fits my size-9 hands well, they are comfy when not riding, and a little difficult to get off, but not too bad. I wonder if this glove would work better on a flat-bar bike with no hoods?

Is unusual and new also great?

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Pearl Izumi Attack Glove (Black/Red) - This glove has a very unusual design feature. The palm area has an internal protector, a teardrop shaped, dense but thin rubber/plastic pad about 3 mm thick, perhaps 4mm in the center.. The outer layer of the glove, completely covering the rubber teardrop in the palm, is a very nice, super smooth, artificial suede fabric. As you look at the right palm (the left is a mirror image), the fat part of the teardrop covers the meaty part of the palm opposite the thumb. The small part of the teardrop is in the area where the thumb and forefinger meet. The unusual thing is this dense rubber pad is only moderately flexible, so when you grab the handlebar for example, the pad resists being bent around the narrow round bar. This has the unusual effect of requiring you to A) grip tighter than usual to completely enclose the round handlebar in your palm, or B) allow the rubber/plastic pad to win as you loosen your grip slightly. The glove' (black) suede seems to really grip most handlebar rubber grips or road bike bar wrapping, but you are left with the feeling that a bump in the road would cause you to lose your grip on the bar. I kept squeezing then relaxing my grip during a 3 hour ride. The next day, I wore the gloves to the gym where I lift weights. The partially flexible palm pads insulated my (old) hands from the narrow, heavy bar, allowing me to lift more weight than normal because the bar weigh was distributed across my entire palm area rather than just the part directly below the narrow bar. Other than that, these gloves are extremely well made and very handsome. The back of the hand is covered with a breathable synthetic fabric (red) and the wrist secures with a narrow but effective hook & loop strap. I bought both XL and L sizes, I usually wear size L glove, but the Attack size XL was a perfect fit, so they run a size small. 4-1/2 stars.

LACKS SUPPORT

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This pair of gloves endd up in a loaner box in the back of the car. There's no, maybe perhaps less than no padding in the heel of the glove. When I ride in the hoods which is 70% of the time my hands screamed at me.

Decent glove, but came apart

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Have used Pearl Izumi gloves in the past with no issues. Always have gone back to them because of their quality. Some I have are 5-10 years old with hundreds of rides in them. Bought these for road riding and had the same expectations as the previous ones. They are decent, but started coming apart after 10 rides between the thumb and index finger. Not the quality I've come to expect from Pearl Izumi.

Mixed bag, fit well but low quality

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

They were warm enough to the high 50s.. comfortable enough and fit to size. The reason I purchased these was to have a very thin profile glove as "gel" types bother me excessively. This has no gel but there is a very large oval shaped cutout with extra padded material in the middle of the palm. It is very pronounced and after some months started feeling even more pronounced - eventually causing some odd thumb numbness. After 5-6 months of varying winter/spring sunny weather riding and mixed laundry washing the velcro also pretty much stopped working.
