Look forward to an improved 2nd Gen...
My wife owns this bag so I've used it quite a bit, and I also own the Everyday 20 & 30. Despite their name, I generally find that peak design's bags are some of the best available, but still leave plenty of room for design improvement. On this one, for use with photo gear, they really need to make the side access zips two-way, so that you can more naturally open them from the bottom-up, as I most often do on the Everyday packs. It would also really benefit from a larger/deeper front exterior pocket, and or another top exterior pocket to help keep smaller items easier to access. Also, get rid of the pointless luggage tag holder, I just throw an AirTag in the interior pockets. The snaps to make the bag smaller are a nice idea, but unfortunately they aren't strong enough to hold, and always come unsnapped very easily. While I like the all matte black look of the bag, I've never loved the fabric PD uses, as it seems to scuff easily and hold onto marks. It also seems pretty heavy, as this bag weighs 4 and a 1/2 lbs before you even put anything into it. Lastly, I've always felt like PD's stitch quality leaves a lot to be desired, especially when compared to other bag makers out of Bozeman. They use a nice tough thread, but long stitch-counts, and some uneven stitching make it feel less premium. On the good side, I really love that the main zip is toward the back panel, which allows you to lay the pack down on it's front to open, rather than having to put the straps on the ground/dirt/etc. to get into it. While the shoulder straps are fairly thin, they are well shaped and the padding is adequate. It's helpful that they fold away. I don't really care for the hip-belt as it's too flimsy to actually carry weight, and just adds weight to the pack itself. Get rid of the strap on the bottom of the pack, or at least the stitching on it, it just gets all shredded and torn up too easily. I wish PD would go back to that nice tan/camel color interior that they had on the original black Everyday packs. That actually looked and felt premium. The gray is just blah me-too and nothing special. So overall this has plenty going for it, but there are a lot of other options out there now. I just hope PD will update it with the above improvements sometime soon, and I may buy another one for myself.

Finally a world exploration bag fit for the name!
I owned a Tortuga backpack prior to owning this bag. I decided to get a new travel back because my Tortuga bag (which is more expensive) had the webbing in the shoulder straps come apart. Tortuga's lifetime warranty doesn't actually cover the cost of a new bag nor are they able to repair it if it is an old model. So basically it turns out to be a garbage warranty. The warranty is much better worded with Peak Design! This bag exceeds my expectations in every single way! It is truly amazing. It has the ability to compress 5L, expand to hold I think 10 more L from its neutral state. You can cleverly tuck away the shoulder straps and hip straps. (Although I wish the magnets were a bit stronger). You can lash large and awkward items to the outside with hidden lash straps. You can get into the bag from every angle and you can also lock down the bag to make sure it is secure and no-one will be able to enter the bag without real effort. I wish this was the bag I had found years ago. When I travel, I do carry on only, overseas trips that last 2-3 weeks. This bag is my home away from home and it can handle every challenge that I would throw at it. Although I'm not an extreme traveller, I do utilize the bag to a pretty full extent and I'm happy with it on all of its fronts. Honestly, there is nothing I would change except for a desire of stronger magnets all around. Zippers are top notch, fabric is top notch, features are top notch. I can just go on and on. This bag is worth every single penny. Other named brands don't compete when you have the ability to hold them in your hands side by side.

One-bag travel in style
I bought the 45l travel backpack for one-bag travel for work. It easily handles 3-day trips and I can go up to a week in a pinch—even with a suit. Everything is well thought out and constructed and the shoulder/hip strap storage is genius. The compression snaps make it a usable day pack once I leave the clothes at my hotel, but I do recommend a packable tote for items you want at your seat on the plane I love the sage color with the wash bag and tech bag accessories. The bag has very clean lines and a professional look, despite being a backpack. I do wish the external top pouch was a bit bigger but it is a minor concern.

Best bagpack I ever had!
It truly exceeded my expectations and is by far the best backpack I have ever owned. The flexibility and comfort it provides are exceptional. While the price may be on the higher end, I believe it is completely justified by the quality and functionality of the product. Thank you for creating such an outstanding backpack that truly delivers on its promises.

Great backpack that could be awesome.
Overall product is great. The only gripes I have, is that the shoulder padding when using as a back pack is very thin, thus my shoulder hurts from the straps dig in. Need a better design shoulder pads (hint.. The North Face) and adding shoulder straps adjustments would be really great. These two addition will make the backpack comfortable to carry for a long walk in Europe.

One Bag to Rule Them All
I love this travel backpack. Last summer I spent 30 days backpacking Europe so traveling as light as possible was important to me. This was the only bag I took on that trip. While other people on my trip took wheeled carry-ons and massive checked bags that they then tried to wheel down the cobblestone streets of European cities, I had none of those issues whatsoever with my lone travel backpack. I used the medium + small packing cube configuration which worked well, and I was also able to fit my tech pouch and toiletry bag by removing the organization divider. When you’re backpacking, traveling around often, and staying in hostels this is a fantastic setup. One bag is the way to go. Since last summer I have also taken the bag on shorter trips within the US and it obviously works great for that as well. I’m looking forward to this Summer when I will be taking it to the UK for another longer 17 day trip! Thanks PD!
