    The best of both worlds.

The Men's Wavefarer Stand-Up Short is the hybrid love-child of two of Patagonia's most beloved shorts, the Stand Up Shorts and Wavefarer Board Shorts. These shorts feature the best of both worlds with a quick-drying nylon fabric that's been treated with a DWR to decrease drying time, as well as increase the durability and life of the shorts. Built-in UPF 50+ sun protection lets you enjoy more waves, while a double-fabric seat increases abrasion resistance for those times you're really getting after it.

    Do you do squats?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 30x20
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 163lbs

If you Squat, go a size bigger. I should have gone a size bigger, as I had to cut some of the stitching in the button area to have enough room to get shorts over my butt. 5'11" 163lbs and got a 30x20.

Once over my butt, shorts are great. Wore them 6 days in a row backpacking San Juans. Dry fast, don't smell, wish the material was a little more stretchy, but seem to be pretty durable.

Not 5 stars because of the butt and lack of stretch in material.

    Don't fit right

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 34
    • Height: 6'
    • Weight: 200lbs

These things suck. I ordered a 34. They aren't a 34. Every pair of pants I have are 34 and these things fit like a 31. I have other Patagonia shorts. Size 34 and they fit. These are like inches smaller.

    The design is cool

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I really love the design of these shorts, the pockets, the cool little back zippered pocket with a loop to clip anything to, and how they are meant for in and out of water use, all pockets have mesh except the front two pockets, which have little holes in the bottom to allow water to flow out. I did not like, however, how baggy they are, I personally like shorts to fit a little closer to my leg, and they were a bit too long for me, they sit right over the knee cap. I really wanted to love these shorts but its all in personal taste.

    Great hybrid shorts for everything

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 34
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 185lbs

The Patagonia Wavefarer Stand-Up Short takes an updated approach to the classic canvas Stand Up Shorts by constructing them in their durable, yet quick drying Wavefarer Board Short material. With belt loops and ample pockets to hold everything you need, these are great shorts for everyday wear. The bonus with these shorts is that they can also be worn as board shorts - there is a handy drawstring inside the waist to ensure that they stay up even after you've taken off your belt. Fit is true to size.

    Shorts for the long haul

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 34 medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Good stitch quality, deep, useful pockets, and built tough. I like that these are quality outdoor shorts that don't look overly cargo-ish. I wear a 34, ordered a 34, and fit is just right. A hair loose, but not baggy, and the draw-string allows for a perfect fit without always having to have a belt. Love how the back pockets result in a double layer seat, and the zipper rear pocket works as a stuff sack. Glad to see such a versatile version of the board short with all the comfort, but also suitable for camping, fishing, kayaking, beach, and downtown casual.

I find the buttons to work fine. Perhaps not as easy as a zipper, but this button design will last for decades. Every zippered short I have eventually wore out, and I tend to wear things like this for decades if they last. I think these will certainly last, and are a good value for how I am using them.

    Maybe a womens fit

These shorts look and fit great but have a major design flaw. For some reason unknown to mankind the designers decided to use only two buttons, instead of three or four, or the common zipper. This means that each time you go for number 1, you have to pull the shorts ALL the way down! Why on earth...

      Great outdoor shorts

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 30x20

Perfect for a day in the outdoors. These are extremely comfortable, They fit true to size around the waist, however they do fit regular(not slim) around the thigh like most other Patagonia shorts. A go to hiking short that will do well when wet.

      My Go-To Short

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 34
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 190lbs

Title says it all - these are my go-to short, for any occasion.

They're fast drying and lightweight, so they are great for kayaking or SUP; even when they're wet, they don't bunch up like other shorts or become uncomfortable. Because they're lightweight, they keep you cool all day - I've put them thru some of the hottest days down south.

They hold up to Patagonia's "worn wear" claim. The stitching is strong, the material is strong as well so they don't rip or tear from snags on the trial.

The fit is very comfortable, I wear a 34 and they are just a little loose on me, but there is a drawstring on the inside that helps tighten them up with ease.

      Short Shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I really like short shorts, so these Patagonia shorts are one of my favorites. I wear them hiking and all over the place. Lightweight, comfortable short shorts make for a comfortable day.
