    Make the fish look up.

A sunny day out on the water would be absolutely perfect if it wasn't for the constant bite of the sun on your back, but you can keep the bite on your line by covering up with the Patagonia Men's Tropic Comfort II Long-Sleeve Hoodie. This lightweight and quick-drying hoodie provides protection from the sun that extends from the back of your hands to the top of your head thanks to the thumbholes and slightly oversized hood that easily flips up over your favorite fishing hat.

    Must Have

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

There is a reason this hoodie has so many five star reviews. If you are climbing, biking or hiking in hot sunny environments and do not want to mess with covering yourself in sunscreen this layer is perfect. It also layers well for spring and fall temps. Pick one up and enjoy!

    you need this layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my go-to, year round shirt. Perfect for hot summer days on the river, desert climbing missions, or sunny Colorado ski tours.

    **Ladies take note**
    I'm 5'7 / 130 lbs and I wear an xs (usually a women's M)
For some reason, Patagonia makes their men's sun hoodies 10x better than they make women's ones. Aside from fundamental differences in fit and features, the women's hoody is actually made of a heavier, less comfortable fabric. What gives, Patagonia?

    I love summer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Summer, Sun, and coming out of hibernation. I do tan but it's a very slow process. I love these shirts because I can get full sun for an hour or two then throw this on and not be hot and sweaty. Stand up paddle board, fish, or go to the pool or beach. Its a great look and everyone is catching on. Get one before they are all gone. I like a baggier fit so I got a Large. I'm 5'11 180lbs

    Probably Great for Fishing

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this for use in the alpine. The fabric is comfortable and light and does an OK job blocking the sun (I got a slight burn on my arms, but I'm not sure if the intended use of this shirt is for long days at elevation). After three days of heavy use (hiking / climbing) the shirt was pilling at the seams and the wrists were significantly stretched out. It's probably great for fishing, but if you're looking for a shirt that is similar but built for heavy use in the mountains check out the Black Diamond Alpenglow Hoody.

    Shade Yourself!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Take note of how many Gearhead reviews you find here - a true sign of exceptional gear. True to size but a looser airy fit, perfect shirt for any outdoor activity with prolonged sun exposure.

    Great for the ladies too

I don’t mean that you should use this shirt to pick up hot girls on the trail. I originally purchased the women’s sunshade hooded shirt. I thought the criss cross closure at the front of the neck was really uncomfortable. I went down two sizes from my normal women’s size and this is perfect.

      Best Shirt I've Ever Owned!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this shirt. It keeps you cool, blocks the sun rays, I wear it in the summer, spring and fall, its my favorite baselayer. Super versatile, gives a little warmth when you need it but this shirt keeps you cooler than a wet t-shirt on a hot summer day. I recommend it to all friends and family!

      Obsessed!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have basically lived in this since I bought it. I wear it to work, lounging around the house and truly lived in it for a week in south FL. It's kind of hard to describe how comfortable the material is. It's light but keeps you warm on cooler days, without some how being to hot in the FL sun, maybe it's MAGIC!!! It's stretchy, with a true to size fit. I plan on buying a few more colors just to avoid wearing the one I have out.

      Must have 'essential piece'

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I find myself always reaching for a few 'core' pieces of clothing to throw in my bag when going on an adventure. I look for things that are serve a few different purposes, clean well and are durable. THIS is one of those pieces. Great for the beach or on the boat when the sun is out but the wind starts blowing. Or even just as a way to get some quick shade. A little bit oversized by Patagonia standards which is nice.

      Perfect Sun Shirt

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've worn mine fly fishing but also taken it climbing and hiking. Great sun protection but very cool and breathable. This will be my go to shirt this summer for all things outdoors in Utah. I bought one and quickly got a second after realizing how versatile it was. The hood is big and fits easily over a hat and even over my climbing helmet. It fits true to Patagonia's sizing but is very relaxed. As someone who is usually in between small and medium in Patagonia, I found the perfect fit in a small this time.

Great for Spring Ski Touring too!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just did a sled/ski mission in Utah's Uinta Mountains this weekend and the temps were way above average, without a cloud in the sky (pretty sure it hit 65f on our way home). The Patagonia Tropic Comfort Hoody was the perfect shirt to wear over my Icebreaker Sphere T-Shirt. The Tropic Comfort Hoody kept me protected from the intense sun reflecting off the snow, and even though I was wearing a baseball hat, the hood provided welcomed additional protection from the sun. I'm super happy I decided to bring this with me, a couple of my ski partners were wishing they had brought one of their own. The fit is a little generous - (I'm 6'1

      Good Purchase

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Light, airy, slightly (just slightly) large, generous sleeve length, and great protection; I picked this up for hiking, river, fly fishing, casual, layering, pretty much everything. Super comfortable. Just what I was looking for. This is available in menswear only, so I picked up a small. Ample length in body and sleeve and it's a little bit larger than the womens med/large tops I typically buy, but not a problem!

      Not Just Tropic Comfort

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave this as a gift - great for lots of different adventures. A loose fit and somewhat larger than the normal Patagonia fit. Thumbholes and a button at the collar make sure you get as much coverage as needed. The hood is great to keep the sun off of my neck

Get it. Wear it. Love it.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great piece of gear for summer adventures. Even when not trying to escape the sun it serves as a really comfortable piece. I now own one in Radar Blue as well as Desert Sage.

Get it. Wear it. Love it.

      Great shirt, runs very big

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love the color and the comfort. Highly recommend. Just make sure you size down at least one size. I’m 5’10” 185 and usually split between M and L. The large was huge, the medium still fits pretty loose, but I like it for the purpose.

      Cozy Tech Piece

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The sun shirt has been a pretty big hit in recent years and its easy to see why. They are super comfy, stretchy, light, and protects the upper torso from the sun. I finally jumped in on the craze and can confirm that all of the above is true.

Since i spend the majority of my summer on rivers in the rocky mountains rafting, fishing, and hiking i figured it was time to pick up a lightweight technical piece for protection.

This specific model from Patagonia definitely runs slightly large so staying with your go to size should be fine, just expect a little bit more bag throughout the garment

Hey BC crew. 5'11" 210lb athletic build guy here. Consistent theme here is that these run pretty big. You folks think I pull off a medium? I don't want to be swimming in a large or have it hang down to my knees. Biggest concern with a medium is the chest and shoulders. What say you?
