Tough Puff Insulated Hooded Jacket
The weather may feel cold and dreary to you, but the trout are loving it, so put on the Patagonia Men's Tough Puff Insulated Hooded Jacket, head down to the river, and start slinging flies. This fish-specific jacket features a tough shell fabric that won't get thrashed by brush when you're bushwacking to your favorite spot, but is still stretchy for unrestricted casting. A DWR coating shakes out passing showers, while FullRange insulation adds the right touch of warmth for brisk days on the water. Usually used for Patagonia's baselayers, synthetic Capilene fabric in the lining manages moisture to keep you from getting cold and clammy. Topping it off are two large chest pockets designed to stow fly boxes so you can quickly switch up your fly choice when the fish aren't buying what you're selling.

Tough Puff is awesome!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: XXL
- Height: 5'10"
- Weight: 230lbs
By far my favorite Patagonia jacket. I bought it specifically to use under a shell for a fly fishing trip to a lake known for harsh conditions. I wanted something that would breathe in wet conditions and not let me overheat. It does all of that and more.
I was initially worried when it arrived that the shell wasn’t as tough as advertised but multiple trips and daily wear have proven it definitely is. Super light and soft but keeps you toasty without overheating. It worked great in intense rain under a wading jacket.
Fit is loose, a bit too much room In the torso but super comfortable and light. The stretch material allows full range of motion when casting and is more wind resistant than you would think. It was perfectly fine in 40 degree weather and 30mph winds with no shell on top.
My beloved Nano Puff has finally met its match.
Everyday version of the Nano-Air Hoody
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: Medium
- Height: 6'2"
- Weight: 185lbs
The Patagonia Tuff Puff Hoody is perfect for someone who wants an insulated, yet breathable jacket with stretch and a face fabric that will take a beating in everyday life. Think of this as a tougher, more everyday-oriented version of Patagonia's Nano-Air Hoody. Definitely a great piece for fly fishing in cooler temps, as it layers well under a shell if necessary.
*This jacket runs a full size big - I am typically a large in Patagonia tops and I am a true medium in the Tough Puff Jacket and Insulated Shirt.*
