    Amphibious by design.

The Patagonia Men's Stretch Wavefarer 20in Walk Short transitions from sea to skyline without skipping a beat. Chino styling handsomely disguises its coastal heritage on casual work days in the city. Hand and rear pockets offer functional storage for daily essentials, complete with mesh pocket bags for quick drainage after hitting the beach.

It's made from a lightweight four-way stretch material, with a DWR finish rapidly accelerating drying once you leave the water. This quick-drying fabric allows you to hit the beach in the early morning, then transition to grabbing lunch downtown without dripping all over. Another summer-friendly feature, UPF 50+ sun protection shields you from scorching UV rays when you're hanging on the beach and commuting through the city.

    Runs Small

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 33
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I love the fit of this short and the stretch fabric makes them really comfortable for summer activities. I normally wear a 32" waist but a 33" in these fits me like a normal 32.

Weird Fit, Mesh shows, Not Black

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 34
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 190lbs

I've worn nothing but hybrids for water activities for 15+ years, and in the water all the time. First off black = grey. Most importantly, the waist just didn't look right, like I was 20lbs heavier compared to other shorts (my wife baulked at them, and I am rather fit). On top of that, the mesh from the pockets are exposed (the normal material doesn't go down deep enough), so you can see skin. Really wanted to like them, but they are poorly designed.

    Great material and quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 34
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 173lbs

I've worn these shorts a few times, most recently on a three-day camping trip. I wore the same pair all three days. They were extremely comfortable in the muggy heat (80*), in the rain, and in the cooler (72*) days that followed. The material is perfect for all conditions. It barely feels like you're wearing anything! I have to get a few more pairs. Only issue I ran into was the sizing. I'm usually a 32. The 33s were too tight so I returned and got 34s. The 34s are a little loose but with a belt and the cord in the waste to tie off, they're very comfortable.

    Great Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 35
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 175lbs

Until last year I never would have thought I'd wear nylon stretch pants but I now have several pairs. They are for casual use but they stay cool, are easy to clean and the don't get creased like cotton ones.

    Great shorts...not black

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 36 waist

Great shorts, but 'Ink Black' is really dark grey. 5 stars if they were really black.

Best shorts I've owned in a while.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 33
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I'm currently deployed to Bangkok and needed a light short that wasn't too tight or too baggy (I'm 40 and don't like today's skinny fit), that didn't need a belt, and could handle the humidity and sudden downpours we get in Thailand (these repel water). I have two pairs and they have been fantastic walking around the city and at the beach. Pockets are a good size and are mesh to let sand out. Other reviewer is right that drawstring is on the short side but it doesn't bother me as I don't want long strings bunching up. I'm 6'0 at 165lbs and the 33 fits perfect.

    Regressed

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 33
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I have last year's version of these shorts and they are great. Unfortunately Patagonia changed a few things on this year's version that I think are a regression in functionality. 3 issues were enough for me to return these.
    (1) The draw string is absurdly short...to the point that I'd have to tie a square knot in these to secure them.
    (2) The elastic key fob/lanyard is missing...so no way to take a surf /water key.
    (3) They switched from a button fly to a zipper fly...just not a fan.
Admittedly these items may not be an issue for most folks who may just use these as casual shorts. However, I rely on these for casual attire, flat-water paddling and (as advertised) impromptu surf session. So they're a no-go unfortunately. Will look elsewhere brand wise for a hybrid short for this year.

The good side to look its best...

Fellows, the new age of shorts is here and now. IF you want a pair of shorts that one ups the money maker and puts your good side on another level, then these are the shorts for you. Your milkshake is gonna bring all the girls to the yard, and then some.

Don't get me started on the the flexibility. I bend like a pretzel....and I ll tell you what these shorts kept up with my every move. Never even had to worry about losing a plum or two out the bottom.

    Hands. Down. 5. Stars.
