    Runs slightly small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 34x5
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 195lbs

Patagonia once again lives up to their reputation as having really solid casual shorts that can be used in many different settings. Unfortunately, I thought I was good enough to get away with have a the 34x5, but I was mistaken. These shorts waists run a little too tight, and I even tried on a pair of 35's and still they were too tight. Normally I am a size 34 waist, but these were suffocating me. Once I have a size 36, I will report back and tell you all what I think.

Also, just my personal opinion, but I think 5 inch inseam is just too short, and recommend a 7inch instead.

    best shorts ever

I must have worn about a dozen pairs of these over the years. During the summer I practically live in them. They are tough and can take a beating. Over the years Patagonia has improved the fabric for the pockets. In older versions my keys always destroyed the pockets first. Now they seem to last forever and after two/three years the entire pair of shorts pretty much falls apart to be given a decent burial.
Some folks claim they got smaller over time. I cannot confirm that. I've worn 34 waist for all my pants and shorts since high-school and while they are sometimes a bit tighter, sometimes a lit wider, that has nothing to do with the pants/shorts. :-) I'd say they fit like every other of my pants / shorts.

Best shorts ever, run 1 size small

Wore these every single day on a month-long trip to europe. They are incredibly comfortable. I wore them hiking, walking around cities, and biking. I dont wear any other of my shorts now.
These definitely run 1 size small. I am a 33 waist, and a 34 fits nicely.

    Eh...

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got these for my boyfriend and they were nothing like what he thought they would be. They are VERY short, but granted he's tall and the picture does show they are on the shorter side... His other issue were the back pockets, they look like front pockets.. It looks goofy .. We returned all three colors.. Patagonia is probably just not his style.

    Just what I wanted

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Was looking for some shorts that were actually short, but still rugged enough to use on the trail and when doing work around the property.

When your thighs are in suit pants all week, they want to breathe on the weekends. These are really great. Maybe a little stiffer than I expected, but that goes with being rugged.

One word of warning, the inseam is short.

So, if you wear boxers or are a free baller--and you have cajones grande--those cajones are likely to pop out the leg from time to time.

I’ve owned four pairs of these shorts and absolutely love them. Great organic cotton canvas. I recently had to purchase another size and will agree with others that they run one size too small (the waist specifically). Great shorts, love them - highly recommend them!

    Maybe just not for him?

I got these pants for my boyfriend assuming they would fit the same as his 5 in baggies but the fit just seemed off. The waist was pretty tight but the width of the legs seemed way to wide? Maybe it is just his body shape. The quality of the short obviously seems to be there but they just didn't work out for him.

I have multiple other Patagonia shorts with a 32 waist, but this model runs small. If you buy them, size up.

      2018 Stand Up shorts

I bought my first pair in 2017 and loved how durable and short they were. The thighs are a lot wider than normal shorts, but I like the range of movement it allows since my thighs are more athletic. I decided to get a second pair on sale and the shorts this year do fit a little more snug. The material seems slightly thinner too, but it still feels durable. The thigh opening isn’t as big either and looks more like normal shorts. I give it 4 stars because I like the new smaller thigh opening, but don’t appreciate the tighter fit.

        My Go-To Shorts

Patagonia's stand up shorts are my all-time favorites. The fabric is comfortable, but tough and durable. I own these shorts in several colors and have been wearing them for decades. After years of use, it was finally time to get some new ones! Only one small disappointment – the Forge Gray color seems to fade easily. The Khaki colors hold their color just fine.

        The BEST!

I own more than 6 of these in different colors, I use them in hot days while on walks, hikes or a farmers market visit. I love them, they are strong enough to sit on dirt and wood or cement benches and such and they don't get damage at all

        Great shorts

I got these for my dad and he really likes them. They do run small - we had to return the first pair and order a size up. He says he especially likes the length and that they are very comfortable.

He Thinks they're too loose and wide

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this as a gift for my friend because I thought they looked really cool and seemed like very sturdy pants. I thought they would be great for him for outdoor activities like climbing because they were a bit looser on the legs. However, this was actually the downfall for him because he thought they were too airy and open for climbing. He is pretty slim though which could contribute to the issue. He did have to size up.

        Way Too Small!

        • Fit: Runs small
        • Size Bought: 31
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 183lbs

I based my size choice on other shorts purchase on this sight. I bumped up one size based on the feedback I saw on size and it was not enough. I own Patagonia baggies small and they fit great. Most other shorts size 30 waist fir great. 31s are usually baggie. I can’t button the stand up shorts. I owned this short 30 years ago and wore them to sherds. They were my favorites. Comfortable, durable and versatile allowing easy movement. I don’t know why the size is such an issue. I’m very disappointed.

        Weird Cut

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

        • Size Bought: 34x7
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 170lbs

I had a bad feeling when I ordered these. I have slim thighs to start so I am always swimming in shorts, but these things were flared out like a skirt. There must have been 10 inches of additional fabric on each leg. If Jncos made shorts this would be the pattern they follow. I liked the length but couldn't get around the excess space in the leg.

Loving these shorts and loving our lands

I snagged 2 pairs of these at the beginning of summer and have loved them. I debated between the 7 and 5in inseam and went with the bold 5 in. They fit me better and show off these wonderful legs my Momma gave me.

Loving these shorts and loving our lands

        Great shorts as usual

I have bought Patagonia gear for many years. My recent purchase was not a disappointment. Thanks for carrying such outstanding merchandise.

        Great Pair of Shorts

        • Size Bought: 34x7
        • Height: 6'3"

I bought this pair for work and got exactly what I expected. They are nice enough to get by whether at work or boppin' around town. The only complaint that I have so far - the material is a little heavy for those hot days, but you can't win them all! I would highly recommend this pair of shorts.

        Weird back pockets, bad cut

So I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing these shorts (shout to Trev Lawson for his sweet review). I was expecting them to be smaller than sized and they are def snug. I was expecting the legs to flare out some (I think one review said like cut off version of jnco jeans from the 90's which is accurate and hilarious). I was NOT expecting the back pockets to be so ugly! They are cut like the front of a pair of jeans. It looks weird and dumb. And it's not so much a critique of the shorts themselves but more to Backcountry who has zero pics on the site. I don't recommend, the legs flaring out is worse than expected too. Don't recommend:(

5'7", 130 lbs, fairly skinny. 5" inseam or 7" inseam?

          Eric,

Short inseam is really personal preference. Some shorter gentlemen will lean towards the shorter inseam since it might be more proportional to their legs. But at the same time you'll definitely see some tall guys rocking the shorties. (as a note a 5" is a very short pair of shorts in my opinion)

what is the difference between the 5" and...

what is the difference between the 5" and 7" shorts? is that the inseam?
