This shirt protects me from the sun without being stiflingly hot. It's a loose fit, and offers protection from harmful UV rays while hiking or traveling. It runs large, and I purchased an XS. Must have for skin protection!

    Great shirt for many activities

I bought this for a fly fishing trip that I was going on. Since then I've worn it out on the boat and on hiking day trips as the weather started to get colder. The fits is great, light weight, and breathable.

I have fallen in love with Patagonia - the fabrics are fabulous, nicely styled, and comfortable. Whether I am golfing in Cairo, rafting in Idaho, or out hiking in the Colorado mountains this is the perfect shirt. Even though the sleeves are a little long, that works for me to provide sun protection for the back of my hands.

    Travel Shirt

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got this for my stepmom who took it on an adventure to Indonesia for 3 weeks, and from the sounds of it, it sounds like it was a life savior! The material is light and airy, great for a sunshirt in the hotter temps. The fit is right on- she typically wears a Medium in tops, and the M fit like a charm. On that note, it does have a little longer sleeves- most sleeves come up too short on her, but these fit well. Overall, great durable sun and adventure shirt- she did say that the colored shirts had some odd bright highlights on the sleeves, so I got her the white and that worked well (it's 100% solid white, no color accents).

    Airy, Comfortable Fishing Shirt

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

I bought this shirt for our annual deep sea fishing trip in the Florida Keys where it's 100 percent necessary to keep your skin covered (if you don't, you risk sun poisoning and sun rash within days). This shirt was soft and airy and didn't rub my slight sunburnt skin raw. It held up well to suntan lotion, bug spray, fish guts, and salt water. I'm thinking about buying another one just for hiking since the color is so nice.

    Nice comfortable shirt

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 9'9"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I have long arms and the length was good for me. I have a thin body and it wasn't overly baggy. My shoulders are a bit broader than average and a medium fit me fine. Just wish it was tailored a bit more to be closer to trim fit.

Perfect in full sun or shade

    • Size Bought: small

I tried the Sol Patrol out this summer on three Sierra week-long trips, and it was exactly the right shirt for me. It kept me cool (and protected) above tree line, and I never overheated in it. Notably, it's not a warm shirt -- early mornings I was still in my fleece over the Sol Patrol, just as I would have been wearing a wool tee. After 3 weeks in the woods it shows no scuffs or abrasions to the fabric, and the snap closures are strong and secure. The feel of the fabric is wonderful -- if Patagonia made pants out of the same fabric I would get them. Very soft and comfortable, with just the right stretch in the side panels, and quite breathable. I'm really narrow, 5'7" & 120 # and a small fit perfectly. I was able to rinse it out most nights and it never got stinky.

    Bought for a big trip

I'll update this review when I return form Costa Rica in a few weeks, but I was impressed with this shirt when it came. I'm 5'1" and 112lbs, and the small fits perfectly. I'm sun sensitive and will be hot on forest treks, and I know this is going to do nicely. I'll look forward to using the nifty zippered side pocket for my passport and a little money while traveling through airports. I wish Back country had more colors, but the price was right! I just know such a light color will be dirty, but it should be easy to clean. I bought the Ion Blue, which is a very light blue color, though it looks almost white in the photos

    Fave Sun Shirt!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large

I have been searching for a long sleeve shirt to wear for backpacking that will keep me cool and protect my arms from the sun. First, let me set the record straight: I run HOT - I just turned 50, and my internal temp has skyrocketed! I have other long sleeve shirts but I get so hot wearing them while I hike. I would prefer to hike in short sleeves but I get too much sun hiking 10 hours a day in the backcountry. So enter the Patagonia Sol Patrol shirt. I held off for awhile as I was not sure about the light colors and backpacking, but finally pulled the trigger and I am glad I did! The light color (I got the Ion Blue) really helps keep you cooler than a darker shirt. Yeah, it gets dirty but so does everything when backpacking. The side panels really vent and the best feature of all is the SNAPS!!! Oh snap! No more fooling around with buttons with cold fingers at 5am in the morning in the tent! The snaps seem very durable and work awesome. Okay now for sizing - I feel this shirt runs big. I ordered a medium and it is a little big on me which is ok since I like it that way for backpacking. I am 5'3" and 128 lbs and a 36C-D and the medium has PLENTY of room and is a little long (which I also like). The sleeves are a little long on my arms, but I am a shorty. The Ion Blue is like a light glacier frosty blue (I was worried it would be a gray shade but it is not). Hope this helps someone! Thanks Backcountry and Patagonia!

    Great shirt!

This is a great sun shirt and so much more. I wore it hiking and three people told me it couldn't be a sun shirt because it looked too stylish. It is tapered at the waste. The fabric is soft. I hiked all day in hot and humid weather and it was just perfect.
