Why We Like The Patagonia x Danner River Salt Wading Boot

The Men's River Salt Wading Boot is a lighter option of wader footwear from Patagonia, and it still boasts heavy-duty support and protection whether we're fishing in a summer stream or an alpine lake. Patagonia built this boot with heavy-duty support and protection. Its waterproof, full-grain leather upper comes from Danner's American tannery, and it has a PFC-free saline solution process for improved resistance to breakdown. The Vibram Megagrip rubber sole is specially compounded for grip on both wet and dry surfaces.

I thought these were going to be the last wading boots I needed to buy, EVER. Turns out the boots stretched at least a size and a half after using them for 3/4 days, and now they are way too big. I found them to be extraordinarily heavy as well, compared to what one might assume by looking at the pictures. I was not impressed with lack of support and the lack of feeling stable in the boot, but as I mentioned, the boots stretched terribly after using them for 4 days.

I now own 3 pairs of these awesome boots! I got a pair for myself a couple years ago, then got a pair for my daughter and girlfriend. I have put my boots in salt water 3-5 times a week for a couple years now and they get better every time I don them. If you wear a size 11 no need to size up for your washers they are already spec to fit over booties.

Totally love the aesthetics of this boot but I would avoid purchasing them if I were you. As others have said, they are super flat footed and clunky. Every-time I wear these, I trip in the water, can't feel anything. These are pretty cinderblocks.

Good Support? They DO NOT, the uppers just fall over when they aren't laced up as shown. Also there is no ARCH sopport, its for flat-footed people and those that don't wanna walk very far. It won't even advise what size to buy based upon what kinda wader you are gonna wear. When I saw "Danner" I thought I was getting a BOOT, not a SNEAKER.

Great for the hike-in

I live in SoCal and the few remaining trout waters here are a serious hike to get into (steep descents/even rappelling into canyons). I like wading boots for wet wading with neoprene socks when I finally make it down the canyon, but have never liked wading boots for the approach and return (generally squishy, heavy and ill-fitting). After my previous Simms boots fell apart I splurged and got these. Man, the Simms/Danner River Salt boots are great. I?ve used them the past two days and seriously felt like I was wearing good hiking boots with ankle support even on the way back up. We?ll see how these last long-term but the initial impression is very positive, looking for the next excuse to wear them. Purchased 10, normally 9.5, fit is tight/solid with neoprene socks. Question, is there a leather conditioner I should use?
