- Q & A
Lifetime Warranty NOT TRUE
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I bought a pair of Patagonia waders used them for a couple years, average use 3-4 times a year. Recently started to get leaks, I thought no problem they have a lifetime warranty. Sent them in to get repaired and they sent me an email saying, we are going to keep your waders, not repair them and offer you a $178 gift card. Everyone knows you can't get a good pair of waders for $178, especially when I bought those for over $400. So, I put a review on their website similar to this one. I recently, received an email from Patagonia saying they would not post my review. Do not buy Patagonia products, Lifetime Warranty false advertisement.
SE Alaska Tough
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
It's been holding up well to salt water and barnacle and rock abrasions these last 2 years. Best waders I've owned. Nothing has failed on them yet. We'll see how long they last
Patagonia Rio Gallegos
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
These are my first waders I have ever bought and I love them! I am 5ft 6in and have a 30 in inseam and a 32 waist and bought the medium short size. The fit is a little baggy but gives enough room to layer up. The quick release strap system makes it easy to take the waders on or off or use them as pants.
Excellent Update (2016 Version)
Very well-thought out wader. I am 6'2, 200lbs, with 47" chest, 34" waist, and 33" inseam. I ordered the King Large at first, which swallowed me - it was far too wide. Second attempt was a Large Regular - the fit was much better but I couldn't squat down without stressing fabric in the knee area. I often fly fish in rugged terrain and need a wader that allows for long step-ups without limitation. The Large Long was the perfect fit. I wear size 12 street shoes (13 Simms wading boots) and the newly redesigned Patagonia 10-12 stocking foot fits great. Backcountry was amazing and handled the exchanges quickly and free of charge.
Prior to these I had a pair of Large Simms G3 waders. The G3 is a fantastic, bombproof wader. Mine are going on 8 years with no leaks, but the neoprene gravel guards are breaking down. Compared to the G3, the Rio Gallegos has a bit looser fit which will be perfect when layering up for winter steelheading. Older versions of the Gallegos had an almost sloppy loose fit, not these. I find the Gallegos H2NO fabric to be more supple and noticeably more comfortable than the G3's GoreTex ProShell. The zippered waterproof pouch easily holds my iPhone 6. The shoulder straps and waist belt are stretchy and comfortable. Gravel guards also seem well designed. I'm not quite sure what I will carry in the two internal side pockets, but I'm sure I will make use of them. I spent time looking over all the seams and they appear to be well constructed and placed.
So why did I choose the Rio Gallegos over the G3? Both are exceptionally well-made waders, but the 2016 iteration of the Gallegos won me over this time. It all came down to comfort and fit.
I have not worn these on the water yet. At $499 I fully expect to get 7-8 years use out of them, but only time will tell.
I currently have the prior generation of Rio Gallegos waders (XS-Short). They fit fine, but in my opinion, have too much fabric in the 'butt' and waist section. I am wondering if the newest version, recently released this winter, have a different fit or cut. I don't think size chart shows now difference, but I just wanted to ask.
Anton, I think you'll be pretty happy with the new fit. We've had similar complaints and the new model has addresses that and slimmed down the wader a touch for a much better fit all around.
