Why We Like The R1 Fleece Pullover

The durable Patagonia R1 1/2-Zip Fleece Pullover is our favorite do-it-all option that we wear for a multi-pitch, layer for ski days, or simply use to show off our love for this eco-friendly company. Soft, flexible, and featuring a unique grid fleece construction, this fleece offers moisture-wicking performance when we're running a trail or hiking steep switchbacks, but also efficient warmth when we stop to take lunch. Patagonia equipped it with a zippered pocket for stashing climber's balm or a granola bar, and it also treated the fabric with Polygiene odor control, letting you put off laundry for just one more day.

This is my second R1 purchase. This is a must have if you are active in cold weather. Light weight, wicks sweat, and really keeps your warm even in the coldest conditions. On a recent ski trip it was 11 degrees with a stiff wind and I wore Patagonia wool T shirt, the R1, a Nano puff and a shell and I was toasty all day. The Lagom Blue is a great color too. It is a little bit long for my 5'2" height but not a deal breaker.

Smells!

I love the look of this pullover and the lightweight yet warm waffle knit vibe, but, wow, it smells awful! I’ve washed it 3 times and hung it outside for days and it still lingers. I really hope it fades bc it gives me a headache. I ordered a Small which is my normal Patagonia size and it’s roomy.

R1 Fleece Pullover - white - PERFECT FIT

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I’ve owned different brands of fleece pullovers, but this is my new favorite. I generally wear a small size, so that is what I ordered. I was concerned because many of the reviews said it runs small. Well, it fits perfectly with room to spare. I’m 5’4” and 120 Lbs. This fleece is soft and comfy on the inside and smooth on the outside. I definitely recommend this fleece, love it!

Quality Dived, and Fit Changed

I love Patagonia and have lots of their coats and tops put to the test over years. However this top compared to 2 older R1 fleece is cheap. The outside is scratchy feeling like you get in cheaper poly, and I see full on daylight coming through the waffle prints on the reverse. I presume the zipper would tear at the base where it’s sewn and pulled on regularly - with this thinner fabric- as often is the case with wear. The fit through shoulders and bust is tighter than my old ones (same size). And holding them up together the length is a good few inches longer so it sits below hip which is a bit weird for athletic clothing. Navy and this top are a sure fire winner so I’m shocked to be sending this back- but the quality is way off for $140 no matter the retailer. I’m sorry Patagonia. My other 2 are much better quality despite being 13 years old. Almost wonder if this is a “factory 2nd”. Disappointing. Took pics of new vs 13-yr-old waffle thickness held to light and tried to load 2 ways, but BC app isn’t uploading it appears.

Had an r1 hoodie for years and loved it. Decided to get a new one in a better color. These layers are lightweight and so so warm. I love them for running. The deep zip front allows for great ventilation when I get a little hot. I wish this had thumbholes. I am usually a small in tops, but got a medium and glad I did bc this layer is very fitted, even sized up. I can only wear very thin layer underneath (like a Capilene top) I love that it runs a little long so you don’t feel like you’re pulling it down for coverage all the time.

Our Met Golf team decided on this piece in teal for the 2023 season. 4 of us tried it on and we were all disappointed. We did not like the feel of the material, it was too long in the torso and sleeves and the overall fit was not flattering. The jacket in the teal has a much better fit but our players did not like the black pocket on the chest. Our taller golfer had picked the item out and was satisfied w the item.

This fleece is AMAZING. I am shocked at how warm I felt when I wore it by itself outside in 10-15 degrees F. I was able to keep wearing it inside my apt building which runs hot (78 degrees) and I was still comfortable. I am very impressed with the comfort of this fleece in varying temps and how warm it is for the weight. I've used it hiking and backpacking so far in ~10F as my only midlayer and it kept me perfectly toasty without overheating which is super important for me. It is super soft inside which feels nice on the skin. I would say it runs standard in sizing, but the L was kind of long which I don't mind because its perfect for tucking into snowpants while layering. I usually am between a M & L, I want to try a M for my next one. I would 10000% recommend this fleece and I already have plans of getting another!

I live in Colorado and go skiing most weekends. This has been an awesome mid layer for chilly days. I wear a base layer long sleeve, this jacket, and then my Arc?Teryx shell. Warm even in 20 degrees. I?m 5?4? 135 lbs and small fits great

Two For Christmas

I have several R1s myself, and decided to get one for my Wife and one for my Sister in Law as Christmas presents. These are perfect midlayers, with something thin underneath and perhaps a down jacket on top. The warmth to weight ratio is exceptional. The high collar on these garments makes them functionally perfect for keeping your neck warm outside. Finally, the beautiful colors make a great fashion statement. If you like Purple, this is the year to pounce! Purple becomes a Patagonia "collector's item" in future years, due to its rarety.
