Quandary 5in Short
When you're wearing the Patagonia Women's Quandary 5in Shorts, the question won't be what to do, but what not to do. I needed a pair of quick drying, slightly rugged shorts last minute, so I picked up a couple pairs of these not knowing which size to go with. These definitely run a little slim, especially in the thigh, I found. I'm usually a 31/10, but needed to size up to the 12 . Unfortunately I do have a smaller waist so I just dealt with them riding low. There is a drawstring inside to cinch up , but who wants all that bunching. Material is awesome - 5 Stars, and I found the length just right.

Bought for wife: "Really high quality short. Unfortunately, it seemed to run about 1-2 sizes smaller than what I usually buy. I would probably buy another pair or some of Patagonia's other offerings, just in a larger size."

Legs too wide for me
- Familiarity:

The fabric, fit of waist, and length were great. But the leg openings were a bit wide, causing the shorts to look flared. Also a bit small. I'm 5'4", 120, and usually a 2, but fit in a 4 in these. Going to try the Stand Up shorts next and hope for a better fit.

I fell in love with the fit and feel of these shorts. They are light, breathable, and perfectly stretchy! The length is great, these never ride up, and the pockets don't protrude. I can't wait to hike in these and stay cool!

Comfortable
These shorts are super comfortable and the fabric seems like it will stand up to some beatings. The waist is perfect, not too high and not too low. The length of the shorts is also a perfect length for outdoor adventures.

I've been wearing these for about everything since I got them: climbing, rafting, mountain biking, etc. They are extremely comfortable, stretchy, and seem like they will last a while. The length is great for wearing under a harness or over a chamois. The rise is perfect, not so high that they feel like 'mom' shorts, but no so low that I have to worry about a plumber's crack. These shorts do stretch out a bit after the first wear (size down!) - but the interior draw string solves the problem of losing my shorts. Additionally, the fabric holds dirt like no one's business. I've had mine 2 months, and they are already stained pretty good from my climbing gear (rope dirt and trad gear) - however, since they're my 'fun-time' shorts, it's not a big deal. I usually wear a size 25 or 26 in patagonia pants, and I ordered a size 2; however, I have the happy hike shorts in a size 0, which fits much closer to the 25/26.

Great all around shorts
I love these shorts. I ordered them in the pink color last year and wear them all the time. I caved and bought the forge grey too when they went on sale. They are lightweight, durable, and very comfortable. My advice would be to go up a size.

Great for hiking and keeping everything a bit cool. Very breathable fabric for me. The forge grey is a darker color but I was in love with that. Back pocket has 1 zip and 1 not, which I was in love with as well! They did run just a bit small for my normal size, if you are between sizes go with the larger of the 2.
