Pluma Jacket

As you ask yourself what you're doing up at the upper reaches of the mountain peak, you can't help but be grateful that you brought Patagonia's Pluma Jacket along with you. The waterproof, breathable, three-layer Gore-Tex Pro material doesn't just protect you from the stinging bits of snow and ice, it also cuts right through the biting winds of the tempest that you're slowly trudging through. As the storm grows ever more violent, bring up the Pluma Jacket's hood over your helmet and cinch it down with the easy to use single pull adjustment system for additional protection.

Waterproof taped seams block out snow and moisture while also cutting down the bulk of the jacket so you can effectively scramble up the last rocky section of the ascent. Just as you near the top of the peak and prepare to make your descent, you can't help but want to stop and take a photo. The tall front pockets are easy to access under your harness as you grab your phone while the storm finally begins to subside. Then it hits you, that's why you put yourself through the inclement weather and high elevations. It's all for the view.

  • A technical shell for technical pursuits in the high mountains
  • Three-layer Gore-Tex wards off snowfall and powder up to your chest
  • Hood easily layers over a helmet while ice climbing or skiing
  • Two-way pit zips dump heat quickly on a skin track or approach

good fit

After getting several jackets for my wife, she decided to keep this one as it's the only one that fit well. True to Patagonia standards and norms, the quality seems excellent, but colors are not our favorite (wish the zippers were a different blue instead of green...) very pleased with fit and construction / features.

Perfect Shell

I love this shell for in bounds and out of bounds. I also really appreciate a shell that I can take on other non-skiing adventures. It is so light and breathable, so I can really get my heart rate up in this jacket without becoming a sweaty mess. The seams are very well taped, and I think the jacket will last a very long time. Plus it is so flattering!

I got to demo this jacket in a size Small and my first impression is that I'm amazed by how light it is! By far the lightest shell I've ever worn. It fit my 3 base and midlayers just right without being super baggy. It moves well and I never felt particularly constrained or claustrophobic like I have on some other slim fitting shells. I put it through the wringer snowboarding, hiking, and shoveling snow. It has been fantastic. I paired it with bibs and it works wonders. The GoreTex is amazingly waterproof in rain, snow, and mixed slush, while still being breathable so I never overheated. It's sturdy and I don't feel worried that it will rip or tear easily. And I loved the Tomato color (somewhere between red and orange) for its visibility, though it does show dirt easily. This is definitely more of a backcountry designed jacket, but I was cruising laps at the resort with it as well. My only critique is that the pockets are not very phone friendly. I prefer to keep my phone in my shell so I can get to it easily and listen to music (I'm still old school and use wire headphones so not having the media pocket kind of hindered me). My phone with its case barely fit into the internal chest pocket and it was a struggle to get to it with my gloves. I would have loved if the zipper pulls were more glove friendly as well since I found myself struggling with them. Otherwise the jacket is pretty well thought out and if you're looking for a lightweight, sturdy shell you can trust, then definitely give this one a try!

If you're looking for a lightweight yet super durable, waterproof and windproof shell - look no further. This jacket looks, feels and functions like the quality piece it is. I got a small and recently brought it on a (freezing) camping trip to Moab and was able to layer it over my thick down jacket with a little room to spare. It's a simple design with only the essential pockets, which I love. I'm also a huge fan of the length - I've found that some Patagonia shells run a bit boxy, but this one is a bit longer/leaner than most. Although it doesn't have a powder skirt it still works really well on the hill and trail alike.

I'm looking for this in this orange, I love it on you. Do you know if they still have it anywhere?
