    Great ultra short

These are by far my favorite running shorts I have ever owned! I wore these for the first time during the antelope island 50 k here in Utah in November, and was very impressed at how quickly the wicked moisture. The compression short liner is breathable and supportive. I wish I had gotten these sooner as i had been using Patagonia baggies for a few months as running shorts, needless to say the baggies are officially retired from their duties until next summer when I need something for trail runs to alpine lakes. Here is a picture of my rocking the nine trails shorts on the final dash of the antelope island 50 k.

    Great ultra short

    Most versatile and comfortable shorts

I have 4 pairs of these shorts I use them for running, workouts, and hiking. The pockets are handy and have zippers. The liner is the best in my opinion of shorts with liners. Worth the price and you will not be disappointed.

      Favorite shorts!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Great slightly-above-the-knee fit. Super light and comfortable. A pleasure to exercise, travel, lounge in- you name the activity. Large works well for size-34 waist.
I'm not sold on the front pockets- they aren't very deep. Also, the price had me reluctant to buy but I'm glad I did.

      Favorite Running Shorts

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shorts quickly turned into my favorite running shorts. I love the lining inside. It stays put even when you are on the move. The shorts don't inhibit your running motion and the fit is perfect.

      Neat Shorts

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As athletic shorts, I love these. I've used them to run, play basketball, work out, or even just lounge. They're comfy and fit well. The liner doesn't have tremendous compression, but it's supportive. The green is kinda cool, too.

      Comfortable, Versatile Short

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 138lbs

I bought these as a present for my husband. These are a solid trail and gym short. They are comfortable, with great pockets, but the drawstring is a little short. The spandex provides adequate support and no chaffing so far (but he has not run over 15 miles in them). Would definitely purchase again.

      Fantastic shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium

Fantastic shorts. Exactly what I needed. I've been looking to get a pair of lined running shorts (with the compression style liner) for some time. I did some research, pulled the trigger on these, and happy I did.
They are a great, not too minimal, not too featured, light, quality running short.
Size 32 waist, Medium fits great.

      Feels Cheap

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 215lbs

I bought these Patagonia shorts because I bought some at REI and loved them so much I wanted a second pair. I thought the Backcountry shorts were going to be the same – they looked exactly the same in the pictures. The Backcountry shorts fabric feels cheap and plasticy – not as elastic and the cut is not as relaxed as the REI shorts. So… I get to pay $7 to return them. Big Bummer!
Shorts of this quality are easily found for $15 to $20.

Hey Charles, sorry you didn't like these. I wanted to add that Patagonia manufactures these shorts, and all of their retailers get the same shorts, in fact of nearly all of the brands I've worked with, Patagonia takes consistency across the board the most seriously. That being said, their designs, sizes, and materials vary season to season and that could be the discrepancy you noted, or it could be a different short too. Give us a call or chat and we'd be happy to figure out what's the deal.

      These are my favorite

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 180lbs

I am a big fan of these. The liner is comfortable, they dry fast and stay clean. I find myself wanting to keep them on or wear just casually since they are so comfortable. They have functional side and back zip pockets so you can actually carry things on your run. They run true to size and fit great.

      Immediately Bought A 2nd Pair

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'9"

I love them, wore them a couple times and bought a 2nd pair. I really like the liner which I was unsure about. Zippered pockets are great and I love the fit. Highly recommend.

After hundreds of miles in the Nine Trails shorts, I'm still in love. I just bought my second pair (the Navy blue). I didn't buy a second pair because the first ones have had their time, but because they're easily my favorite running shorts and I can laundry only so many times a week.

After 8 months, they're even softer and more comfortable than when I did my first run in them. The liner hasn't stretched out (I can't stand when shorts do that), the zippers still work phenomenally, the color (black) has faded a touch but that's probably from all the time I've spent in the sun with them. Best of all, it takes a lot for these shorts to start smelling and they never chafe.

      Great Trail Short

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 140lbs

I got these for my brother in law for an upcoming race. He's worn it a couple times now and says they're a great length, fit and weight for his needs (3-5 mile runs). He loves these shorts!

      Patagonia shorts rock

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a tough time choosing between these and the Strider Pro 7” shorts when it comes to running or hiking peaks. These are a bit more rugged and have better pockets for storing things like a phone. The zippered pockets are nice so I don’t have to worry about losing my keys when I am scrambling over boulders or running down a rough trail. I really enjoy the compression shorts liner. They don’t compress to much but they save my inner thighs from chaffing and they breathe better than expected. I have done several trail runs in them in 90-degree weather and haven’t ever considered them too hot. I tend to grab these shorts when I am hiking peaks or running for a long time unsupported runs. If I am doing shorter runs then I tend to use my Strider Pro’s. When it’s all said and done, you can’t go wrong with any of the Patagonia trail shorts.

      I don't like the liner

They look great, the liner is a bit too long for my taste, I bought an L which is what I typically use but because of the liner when during leg day at the gym it can pull the short down a bit, so I may just use them for running only.

        Great running shorts

I love these shorts. They are not too short or too long and the liner in them works great. I know I can go on a long run in these shorts and not have to worry about chafing. I like the storage pockets as well.
