Nine Trails 18L Backpack

Move nimbly through mountainous terrain and navigate narrow slot canyons with cat-like agility—while still carrying all the gear you need—with the Patagonia Women's Nine Trails 18L Backpack. This pack boasts a lightweight, low-bulk design that won't hold you back on tough trails, but still offers the space to carry all the gear you need for a long afternoon trek.

The main compartment offers enough space for a hydration reservoir, food, and an extra layer, and the large stretch exterior pocket keeps your rain shell handy in case you collide with a thunderstorm during your adventure. Lightweight, yet extremely tough Cordura fabric handles frequent brushed with branches and rocks, and it's equipped with PU and DWR coatings to keep the contents from getting soaked in a storm. Compression straps manage your load to keep it as compact as possible, and the waist belt and sternum strap provide stability so you don't get thrown off balance when scrambling over boulders. And to keep your back from getting drenched with sweat on the ascent, Patagonia equipped this pack with a mono-mesh back panel that allows excellent airflow and prevents moisture buildup.

  • Light and low-bulk pack for quick movement on the trail
  • Coated Cordura fabric is light, durable, and water-resistant
  • Large stretch exterior pocket for additional storage
  • Side compression manages load and increases stability
  • Mono-mesh back panel is extremely breathable
  • Padded shoulder harness with sternum strap and waistbelt
  • Multiple stash pockets keep small gear organized

Watch out: pack pills your clothing

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

The mesh back panel is too abrasive and significantly pilled the back of my shirt that I regularly wear on the trails. I'm glad it was "only" a hiking shirt and not a pricier technical jacket. Seems to only be a problem when the pack is heavier and hikes are longer. Didn't have an issue till I was carrying a 3L bladder and hiked for 6+ hours. I unfortunately discovered this outside of Backcountry's 30 day return window, but crossing my fingers that Patagonia will stick to their "ironclad guarantee".

Cute Pack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love the collar of this pack (I got the blue one)! I grabbed it for a work bag for my computer after work activity clothes and lunch. It wasn't quite big enough for all of my stuff but I just had to grab a lunch bag and it was perfect. the outside pockets were nice as well as the inside pouch.

Straps too thick

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I'm with the other reviewer that couldn't use the pack because of the straps. I'd give it 5 stars for quality and features, but one star for straps that are overkill-thick. Just trying it on with some weight in the pack around the house, and my neck was rubbed uncomfortably - can't imagine wearing it for hours on the trail. The straps are just too thick for a 18L Daypack.

Best Pack in the Game!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Out of all the backpacks I have tried, this is by far my FAVORITE one. The padding on the shoulders/back are comfortable and breathable for those hot summer hikes. Using this for day trips, I could fit; a jacket, 40 oz hydroflask, snacks, wallet, and after hike beers! The waist belt has pockets as well for smaller items. (love that)

Bought the 18 & 26

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Bought 18 & 26 becuase I couldn't live with the idea that I might have chosen the wrong forever pack. Original thought I'd be happy with the 18 as a ultra light enthusiast. Comparing them side by side, I found the 26 to be the more versatile forever pack I was looking for. Deal breaker was my nalgene barely fit in the 18 with a days worth of hiking gear in it. The 26 easily senches down to fit the bare minium (rain jacket, small first aid, warm jacket and a nalgene). Or I can bring my all my ultra light hiking essentails ( sea to summit hammock & towel, jet boil, water shoes or helmet, climbing harness and shoes plus plently of food and drinks for a long day in the back country. I'd bet I could even camp out of the 26 if I went ultra light. My opinion, buy the right pack for multiple uses instead of buying one for every use. The pack itself is really comfy. II could see where some would complain about the straps being too close but it doesnt bother me. I feel like it has the right amount of support and the pockets are great. I'd highly recommend one of these packs as they are great.

Great Hiking Pack

I used this pack on short day hikes and a canyoneering trip in Moab and I love it. It fits everything you need plus more. The side clips were super nice for throwing our canyoneering rope over the top of the pack! I really like the hip belt and pockets. It's super comfortable and fits my iphone 7. Sometimes packs will fit phones but it makes the hip belt uncomfortable or it's impossible to get your phone out while it's on and that was not the case with this pack!

Who has a neck that skinny?!

This should be THE pack - great size, perfect pockets (belt stashes, 2 side pockets for our phones/cameras, large stretch pocket for layer & water bottle, inside pocket for wallet & keys, outside "lid" pocket for kid snack, u-shape opening for easy access to all the other misc. you have to take to hike in the weather-mercurial PNW. BUT - the straps are ridiculously close together and chafe your neck! I couldn't believe it when I excitedly put it on, but then I asked the Google and sure enough it's a known problem. I even ordered the unisex style after ordering the ladies, hoping for wider placement but no, no such luck. Only 2.24 inches between the pack straps at the top. For comparison my Gregory Miwok has 4.5 inches (and way too many mesh pockets to catch on stuff.) The #perfectpack search continues...

Fits more than you would expect!

Absolutely love this bag. The quality is fantastic, and it’™s comfortable to wear with minimal adjustment needed. I was worried that 18L might not be large enough, but I can easily fit my DSLR camera in here along with anything else I need. I can’t wait to take it with me to Seattle and Peru this year!

Strap will choke you out

Love Patagonia. DO NOT love this pack. Literally chokes you out as you can see in the photo.

Love

I can't say for sure since i'd don't own one of these packs but from the pictures it appears you can move the sternum strap up and down the sewn loops that run down along each shoulder strap. Usually i've seen them slide on a piece of webbing or on a round piece of piping along the shoulder strap but i'll agree this method is a bit odd.

Move it down on the straps. It's adjustable!
