    Disappointing Durability

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Great lightweight puff in function and style. Surprisingly warm when zipped up. Was happy with everything until holes started to appear. Disappointed sleeves have worn through in under 6 months of casual wear. That's not a lifespan to match the price.

    Yes and Yes

The jacket is perfect for 25-50 degree weather and can go colder if layered properly. While very thin and almost weightless, the jacket seems to have the ability to adapt to the temperature around you and make you forget you are wearing it. The jacket has such a nice fit to it. Perfect for wearing under waders in cool to cold climates too. It packs down quite nicely making it great for travel as it’s foot print becomes the size of a stuffed sandwich bag and weighs next to nothing. Such a great buy.

    Never the right layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

Pros: Blocks wind well. Packs small. Will resist a couple minutes of light sprinkle. Looks nice.
Cons: Not very warm. Not breathable at all. Clamy and uncomfortable against skin.

I can't really recommend this jacket. Due to it's poor breathability, it has a very narrow niche use. If you're standing around, it's probably good down to about 55F, maybe 50F. Any colder than that, and this jacket isn't warm enough. I can't recommend it for physical activity, as its poor breathability makes it damp and clammy on the inside in just a few minutes. It's only slightly more water resistant than a cotton sweater, but is slightly warmer (though less comfortable) when wet. It will resist a smattering or a light sprinkle for a few minutes, but if it's enough rain to make a cotton hoody wet, this jacket won't fair any better, and it will feel gross and clammy against your skin.

The only place this jacket shines is in cool (but not cold) windy conditions where you might have to have a light jacket packed really small. Otherwise there is always a better layer than this, and it's usually just a softshell.

The cut is also kind of awkward: very square and a little big. If you're on the cusp of two sizes, size down. I'm 5'8", 170, with a 42" chest, 31" waist. I'm usually on the cusp of a Medium and Large. Mediums are usually snug and have an athletic muscly fit while larges are typically a little too big and roomy. This jacket is no different, with the Large leaving PLENTY of room, especially around the midsection. The cut seems to be for someone with a belly, if you know what I mean. Definitely not for athletic or slim builds.

    The SWEETEST jacket.

It's not too warm if you're not doing anything, kind of a given for any jacket, but as long as you're out hiking or climbing, this thing will keep you toasty in pretty nasty weather. As for sizing, the XL fits me great all around.

    Comfy, lightweight, super warm!

This is my first Patagonia jacket, it fits super well and is incredibly comfy. It's incredibly lightweight yet it keeps you super warm! 10/10

I got this as a gift for my brother for Christmas. He has been using it as a base layer in NH for most of the winter. My brother is a burly dude so he creates more than enough heat, the Nano Puff plus a thin outer shell for him has been doing perfect. He does say the arms fit a little tight but he is a large dude.

One of the most useful jackets ever

The Nano Puff is just the gift that keeps on giving. You will constantly find that you are wearing more and more and that it can do just about all the things that you would expect a jacket to do, and more!

I oddly enough bought this Men's jacket in an XS for my niece because she liked the Coriander Brown color so much that she wanted this one over any of the women's options. It is a little big on her, but she likes to layer, so it works out great for her.

    The perfect jacket

This jacket is pretty much the perfect jacket for California. Not great in the rain but for the other 9 months of the year it is my go to standby. I recently purchased the green Nano puff and it fits amazing. It is rare that I buy a new edition of anything that feels better than the old one but I pulled this Patagonia on and man, it fits like a glove. Zipper feel sturdier and insulation seems to breathe a bit better than my old one too. Wore my old grey Patagonia for about 7 years to around 18 countries and it is still in decent shape. My wife wanted me to get a new one though and I'm glad I did! Great buy!

    Great Jacket!

I have now gifted all my family members this style of Patagonia jacket. They all love this lightweight, warm, and comfy jacket. I recommend this jacket for anyone that needs an underlayer or just a fall jacket.

    Great casual Puffy

This is a great casual puffy for everyday warmth around town. I have also used the nano puff as an underlayer of insulation under my ski shell. This puffy is very packable and can fit into my ski bag easily. This jacket does not provide much water resistance however and should be worn under a shell in wet conditions.

    Best puff for all situations

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I wear this thing almost everyday during the winter whether I'm layering while skiing or out on the town at night this jacket kills it. Just the right amount of warmth to keep you warm on the cold days but light enough to not feel like you wearing a big down coat.

This thing takes a beating like a champ!

I bought this on a deal at Backcountry.com and really didn't think I was going to like it. Patagonia is a fine brand, but I personally don't think their gear is meant for real, technical use. I was completely mistaken. I've had this for over 4 years and just washed it for the first time today, Yeah... it's even machine washable! I've literally tried to destroy it through real use: I've taken it through offwidth chimneys, used it to clean my climbing shoes before trying a boulder problem, even tied the arms in a knot to secure a pack together, and it barely has a scratch! I mean, looking at the stitching on the outside, it seems like it wouldn't hold up, but it really has.
It's not really meant for weather below 30 degrees, but it adds that little warmth barrier above 30 and is a great extra layer of insulation under another puffy when it's extra cold. I love this jacket. It just feels like I could run over it in a car 50 times and it would still be fine. I also love how it stuffs in its own pocket. Works awesome as a makeshift camping pillow. Looking forward to giving this thing a beating for another 5 years!

    Favorite Jacket

I originally bought this for my dad - and then my brother "borrowed" it from him permanently. Bought my dad a new one for Christmas, so they can both have their favorite jacket. Super warm and lightweight, great for casual wear or just about any outdoor activity you can imagine.

    Ok

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: M

I own the black and just received the green version. There is a noticeable size discrepancy and the green is definitely different than the picture. It is not an olive/Forrest green. It’s actually kinda of a shiny jacket unlike the black one. I’m returning.

    Versatility!

I purchased this jacket solely on the fact that it packed down small. I needed something that would be warm but not cumbersome on a backpacking trip through central and eastern Europe. I was happy when I found out it offered so much more than I expected.

It's warm, but not too warm. It's durable, packable, and looks good to boot. I use this 4 seasons of the year. It's great for those cool summer nights in New England, but also works as a great mid-layer in the dead of winter. It's great for spring and fall hiking as it will keep you warm but not be overbearing when you want to remove it. Overall, I love this jacket and would purchase it again in a heartbeat.

    Versatility!

I'm 5'7'' and about 148 lbs with 31.5 waist so what size should I get (I prefer a little loose jacket).
    Thank you!

    Hey Tuan,

At your profile and preference of fit, I would size with a size small on the Nano Puff. It has more of a regular fit to it, so that should pan out quite nicely. Give me a holler if you'd like me to setup an order for you!

How does the warmth of this jacket compare to the traditional Patagonia down sweater jacket? I have the down sweater jacket, and am looking for a lightweight, early spring alternative that can be worn comfortably in 25-45 degree weather?

Is this jacket enough for colder conditions with a layer underneath? Maybe 25 degrees and below? I'm in upstate NY where it can be really chilly!

    Hey Amy,

I am also from Upstate New York (Lake Placid), so I know how you feel about the cold. I would say this Nano Puff would not be warm enough to wear as a stand alone jacket. It's a great mid-layer because it's compact and light - but wearing this jacket in freezing temps wouldn't keep you super warm. Some other jackets you may want to consider: Patagonia Windsweep Down Hooded Jacket , or even: Outdoor Research Incandescent Hooded Down Jacket. Something with more loft and insulation is key for those NY frigid temps.

Let me know if you have any other questions and Happy Holidays!
