I picked these up to layer under my Gore-Tex shells and under my waders. I'm always cold so I'm hoping these will supplement a lightweight wool base layer well when it's on the more frigid end of the spectrum. I haven't put them to the test yet but these are my initial assumptions/impressions. They're incredibly soft, they have a nice mid-thickness but are incredibly lightweight, and the fit is amazing. They have a soft and seamless panel at the ankle that you can pull up mid-calf comfortably to work with taller boots whether skiing/snowboarding. The waistband is perfect, it's not obnoxiously short or tall. It seems like the front is a tiny bit more narrow than the back panel, which is an awesome and smart detail. Perfect for keeping your crack from the cold winter's chill when bending over. I saw reviews on Patagonia's site where a majority of people mentioned that they aren't flattering, I beg to differ. In the age of tight fitting leggings, maybe the perspectives have been skewed a bit when someone wears something with a looser/relaxed fit. I feel like for the shape, they're still flattering. They don't bag out in the butt nor have that weird super long crotch look with this style/cut of pants. The last thing I'm worried about après ski is how cute and flattering my clothes look. With that said, these have the tailored relaxed fit and feel of a pair of looser yoga/indoor climbing pants. I haven't taken them off since getting them and have also been sleeping in them, they're that comfortable. If you have bigger hips, you may want to size up, as the waist band has stretch and give, albeit not a great deal compared to many elastic waistbands I've come across. I don't have much in the hip department so my typical size worked well. Being 5'11', the length is perfect, for once. Usually length is an impossible ask for most women's pants but these hit perfectly at my ankle. I'm excited to put these to the test, they're pricey but I feel like they're going to be every bit worth it. Especially since Patagonia is amazing with their warranty in case things get a little too rowdy.
