Why We Like The Micro Puff Hooded Insulated Jacket

We zip up the Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Insulated Jacket over our favorite baselayer before heading out on the snowshoe trail. If some ominous clouds roll in with the threat of snow, we pull our weatherproof shell out, slide it easily on top of the Micro Puff, and watch the world turn snowy white from the cozy cocoon around us.

Revolutionary PlumaFill insulation mimics the structure of down for a packable, toasty design that still offers warmth even after getting wet. And when we're not wearing a waterproof shell, the Pertex Quantum fabric still holds its own against the snow and rain with a water-repellent coating. Plus, an under-the-helmet hood construction helps us adventure in comfort without sacrificing safety.

In love

In search of a jacket that keeps me warm on (bike) camping trips, Jesse (my gearhead - best!) recommended this jacket to me. And I have to say I love it! It's light and comfy and keeps me nice and warm (and also the moist away from my body). I have the blue one and I'm really not into shiny jackets. I was a little concerned that I'll look like a disco ball, but it's actually almost not shiny at all and I also really like the look. The only thing that could be a little better are the jackets - in the sense of where they are located. The inside jackets are big (which I like) but go all the way down. So all of the gear you stuff into your jacket hangs somewhere at your belly - which is ok, but I would like a little more distribution better. So if you are on the fence: go for it! You won't regret it. I also really like the hood.. just saying... And the jacket is true to Patagonia size, which is more on the bigger side of things.

Great and more durable than you?d think!

This is a fantastic jacket! I?ve had mine for about a year now. For comparison I also have the MH Ghost Whisperer and the Arc?teryx cerium LT. The Patagonia Micro Puff is the warmest, most wind resistant and most durable. I have two Australian Shepherds, a herding breed, who may nip when you run. They?ve nipped at this jacket, jumped up when we?re playing and no damage whatsoever. Cannot say that for the other two jackets. In high winds, it?s the only puffy I?ll wear. Does an amazing job blocking the wind. If it?s very cold, I pair a wind shirt underneath because that traps heat. With snow/sleet, I was out for hours and still stayed warm. Additionally it?s incredibly comfortable. I?m 5?2, 134 lbs and have a size medium that I got last year when I was 147. It now fits with a bit of extra room. HIGHLY recommend.

My Go-To jacket

This is by far the most lightweight and packable mid layer jacket I've owned without compromising warmth. It's now my go-to jacket for skiing, overnight winter camping, hanging around at the trailheads, walking the dog/errands, etc. The hood is a little tight but that allows it to easily fit under a helmet. Overall, love it and highly recommend adding it to your fleet!

Questionable Hood

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

This is a great jacket, love the cut, fit, and warmth. But beware the hood can be ridiculous tight as to be unusable. I love the jacket but the hood renders it unusable (at least for me), so sadly I need to return it. I'm 5' 2", 108 lbs, got the XS which is my usual size.
