    April showers met their match.

From the dewy forests of the Smoky Mountains to the exposed coastline of Washington's San Juan Islands, the Patagonia Men's Light & Variable Jacket provides a lightweight buffer from passing showers and blustery conditions in transitional seasons notorious for rapidly changing weather. This rain jacket features a lightweight polyester shell that's recycled for minimized environmental impact without affecting its ability to protect you from the elements.

The DWR finish repels oncoming rain showers, so you're not soaking wet after a passing storm blows through your locale. Furthermore, it comes with circular underarm holes for greater ventilation when you're active in the outdoors, plus a stowable hood that neatly tucks into the stand-up collar when it's not in use. And when it's time to pack up and hit the trail back home, the jacket conveniently folds into its left hand pocket for compact storage.

    great fitting jacket.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really enjoy wearing this jacket and had my eye on it months before making the purchase. It keeps you warm on milder nights but isnt too thick. The stash away hood and high neck wind barrier protection is a plus for me. Great fit and style with the rock camo pattern. Will def get lots of wear this Fall in SF and LA.

forest camo grey light & variable

This is a light shell, so if you're looking for something more durable in a downpour, this may not be it. For what i need it for, it's perfect. I bought it to wear on cool nights where I dont need anything too thick or bulky but will give me a layer of defense against light winds and rain. Styling with the grey forest camo as well.

I live in California. I was looking for a light packable jacket to take into town (or SF) in the evenings for when the temp drops or wind picks up. This works perfectly. It looks pretty stylish (for a windbreaker), comfier than a rain jacket (I was using one previously for this purpose but it felt sweaty and horrible when wearing), is comfy (even when against skin), big pockets, fits in a pocket when scrunched up ( i use vecro straps to make it smaller), and keeps the chill off nicely. It is splashproof but not waterproof but that does not affect me because it does not rain in Cali in the seasons I want to use this anyway (I actually prefer it being breathable to super waterproof). I have used this many evenings in town, had it when the fog rolls in in SF, taken it camping, hiking, and to the beach. Has performed well. I had considered the Houdini, but I didn't like the fit and it did not have handwarmer pockets. Really happy with my choice.

    Looks good but not worth

The jacket itself is good but the fabric does not look good in terms of quality. I bought this at 20% off and it did not worth at full price.

I live in San Diego County (Carlsbad), so we don't need heavy jackets here. However, we are the land of microclimates, so what I have learned to do is dress in layers. This jacket is perfect for warmer days because it is super lightweight. However, if you wanted to layer it over a long sleeve base layer you could stay pretty toasty as the jacket is very good with repelling wind and light rain. The only gripe I have is that I wish it had a tiny bit more give in the shoulder area. It can feel a bit restrictive when you cross your arms in front of you. That said my shoulders are pretty broad at 42 inches (31 waist). It's not a bad problem to have it just can be difficult finding clothes that fit well and offer range of movement. Maybe if the jacket had a hidden stretch panel somewhere it would fix that. A large was way too baggy on me and the sleeves were too long. It's also possible the jacket will stretch a bit and conform to my body. I've only had it a week, so time will tell. Again, it's really a minor gripe as it is restrictive in the tiniest of ways but enough for me to notice, and I notice everything. Overall a great jacket.

    New Favorite

I've only had this for for the last 36 hours but I've lived in it round the clock. It is my new favorite layer for everyday use. The construction and material are extremely high quality (wouldn't expect anything less though). It's not very warm as another user pointed out; it's about the same warmth as a long-sleeve shirt. But the wind and waterproofing is amazing.

    Great wardrobe staple

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

My son was looking for a basic windbreaker with no lining that would provide just-enough protection -- this was perfect! Good looking, lightweight, does shelter against light sprinkles and wind. He wears it pretty much every day. He's 6 feet 190 and the XL fit just right.

    Light-weight rain shell

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this jacket to provide a water-resistant layer that I could throw in my pack in the event of flying water. Its super light, and packs into its own pocket, which is a huge plus when carrying something you may not use. It is a very thin jacket, so I wouldn't use it for keeping you warm. But if you need a light weight pack-able layer, look no further.
