    Makes miles disappear.

The Patagonia Women's Houdini Running Pant is a lightweight accomplice for tackling muddy, rain-soaked trails and running through blustery conditions. This wind and water-resistant running pant features a durable nylon ripstop shell, complete with a moisture-shedding DWR finish. It conveniently zips into its rear pocket, allowing for ultra-light stashing once the weather clears. Plus, the stuff sack features a reinforced carabiner clip for attaching to your favorite hydration pack. Other key features include inner-cuff snaps for easy on and off, reflective logos, and an elasticized waist for a non-slip fit.

    The perfect back up layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 120lbs

I bring my houdini pants and jacket with me whenever I'm skeptical of the weather. They are great layers to have if you're a trail runner or hiker. If it's just a bit too windy or cold, they will make your adventure much more bearable.

good for wind, not for rain

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I bought these pants for a multi-week bike trip through Europe. They are super lightweight and pack small, which makes them great for bike touring. However, even in moderate rain they provided almost no protection. In hindsight, I should have purchased something that was waterproof. As it doesn't make a lot of sense to bring one pair of pants for wind and another for rain, these turned out to be a poor purchase choice for me.

    Great lightweight wind pant

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 112lbs

It weighs only 3 oz (size S), is great for wind and light rain (it has DWR finish). There are snaps at the ankles so you can easily get it over shoes or boots, and an extra snap in further let's you cinch it at the bottom. Backcountry calls this a woman's pant, but Patagonia only makes it in unisex sizes, so it's straighter in the hips/waist than a woman's size would be. I'm 5'4" 112 lb, sort of curvy, and got size S, which fits OK (though I wish it had a bit more hip room), and I can wear a thin base layer under it. The waist sits at my high hip and has a drawstring so you can adjust it. The length is 30.5". It has one pocket (into which you can stuff it), which zips open at the side hip, but the pocket itself is oddly angled toward the back. I plan to use it for hiking and travel, along with my Houdini jacket.

    For the worst weather

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I got these so I wouldn't have an excuse when it's too dark, cold, wet, windy, snowy, etc to go run. While my will to go still wanes, the reasons not to list is weaker. These pants help strengthen my resolve when the going gets tough. Pockets are handy and they're easy to slip over shoes in case you dash out the door only to return realizing you need the extra layer. They pack really small so they're great for travel (or to stow on a hike in case the weather turns). They are not waterproof, so just know that hurricane like conditions will still leave you drenched.
