    Best Hiking Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I bought these shorts for a hiking trip in the Tetons and loved them! Not only were the very comfortable and lightweight, they kept me cool and dry, The fit was great as well. Great shorts!

    Wearing them non-stop

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I ordered two pairs of these (khaki, ink black) a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't stopped wearing them in rotation since. So comfortable, with just enough stretch to move in, but not so much that they lose shape after multiple wears. No weird wrinkles, either, which is always a pet peeve of mine. The inseam is perfect -- like my favorite trail running shorts -- and the tie/button closure is comfortable without getting caught on anything. They're generally true to size (for what's listed on the Patagonia size chart) -- I was worried initially, as I have pretty muscular legs. The khaki seems to fit a bit more snugly than the ink black, so more of the slight pocket bulge issue that others have noticed, but they're still great and not too tight/don't ride up. Pockets are deep enough for lots of dog poop bags and keys, or trail snacks -- they'll stretch to fit. I should note that the ink black is not a true black, but more of a dark charcoal, which is what I wanted anyways. These will be perfect for all my desert dirtbagging for a while to come. Worth it to pay more, too, to have a lifetime guarantee from an ethical company.

    Favorite Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Love these shorts. They're my go-to for hiking/ backpacking, fishing, and casual wear! The material dries fast and is extremely comfortable, not restrictive at all. The length is probably my favorite part of these shorts -- just long enough to feel comfortable being active in them, but not frumpy. The back zipped pocket is a bonus as the front pockets aren't too secure. There is also a drawstring which I find super helpful since Patagonia shorts tend to fit me just a little large in the waist. I would say these are true to size!

    Mostly Great

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

These shorts are great on hikes and hanging out in town. I didn't experience any of the "bunching up" like other reviewers mentioned, however, I do agree that the pockets flare out so that's the reason for my -1 star.

    Love these!

    • Size Bought: 4
    • Height: 5'10"

These are the best hiking shorts I've owned! They're not too long and not too short, and are actually flattering. They're very stretchy and very comfortable

    Not for me

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 6
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 130lbs

The fabric is super comfortable and seems like it will hold up well. Unfortunately, even though it fits well in the waist and hips, the pockets flare right out and make for weird creases. The shorts are not tight over my thighs but my legs must just be bigger than intended for the shorts to lay correctly without riding up. I'll be returning them but I'd bet someone who has more petite thighs than me would love these.

    Not for me

These pair of shorts just didn't work for me. When I had them on, the pockets stuck out and bunched up since they were tight for my thighs. Quality seemed good just didn't fit me well.

      Great all around shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 0
      • Height: 5'6"
      • Weight: 120lbs

These shorts are incredibly comfortable. The stretch and smoothness of the fabric are great. I've bouldered in these, but don't think they'd be quite long enough to climb with a harness - which the quandary short is great for. These have also been great for rafting (dry very fast) and riding my bike around town. I wear a size 25/26 in patagonia pants, and the 0 fits comparably.

      great hiking shorts

I used these for backpacking & hiking over a few days & they worked great. The internal drawcord is great for cinching them on with a pack on your back & the stretch makes impromptu scrambling easy.

Love these shorts! Super comfy. Perfect length, not too short and not too long. I wear them to rock climb and they are perfect. I misinterpreted what "ink black" meant and thought I was ordering a black pair of shorts. This color is actually dark gray. I still love them

If you like last years version of the happy hike shorts these are way better in my opinion. The inseam is about an inch shorter, which I love. Real button instead of a snap, and there is a zippered pocket which is handy if you're worried about anything falling out of your pocket. Great for travel or summer hiking!
