I was really surprised that a Patagonia coat was so flawed. Based on reviews, I sized down (normally a medium, got a small), and it was still so big that I looked like an arctic mailman. I tried to cinch the waist, but it just made the butt poof out. You also can’t stick your hands in the pockets from the sides - only awkwardly from the top. The waist cinching draw cord can only be tightened by tying and untying knots - there’s no little plastic piece to help adjust. I’m used to a more well thought-out product from Patagonia.

Missing a crucial detail

I read the reviews and sized down, no problem there, I like a roomy winter coat and the sleeves were nice and long which was a bonus because I’m tall. But this coat doesn’t have hand warming pockets! A winter coat non-negotiable. I kept looking for them because all coats have them. You need a place to shove your hands when you’re running into Target or waiting at the bus stop and this has nothing, unless you want to awkwardly stick them straight down into the flap pockets. Such a bummer.

Agree with the other reviewer- the sizing on this coat is bonkers. I tend to be a medium in most Patagonia items, occasionally a large if something is fitted across the chest, occasionally a small if it is a relaxed fit. I'm athletically built with a larger chest. I ordered this in a medium and it is so large that I'm pretty sure my husband and I could both wear it... at the same time. The sleeves are also comically long and went well past my fingers. I am so glad that Patagonia is making a winter coat with a relaxed fit for layering as I often can't layer under their clothes. But, this one was a bit too far in that direction. I returned it immediately. It seems like it would be a great coat if it fit, as it is warm and seems built for the elements otherwise. I just ordered a small, fingers crossed the smaller size works.

No one is exaggerating, this coat runs so large. I am pear shaped, so when I check the size chart I?m a small on top (34) and a large on bottom (41 hips). This tends to be the case, and medium is usually a a good compromise. I purchased the medium despite all the reviews saying it?s huge since I don?t mind oversized clothing. Sadly, the sizing really is ridiculous. It makes me look like a child wearing their dads coat. Thankfully it feels large everywhere (shoulders, arm length, body size) so I?m hoping a size smaller will work better. It does feel like it would be nice and warm, the pockets are a good size, and the hood is nice and big. I?m sure if I can find a size that fits properly it will be really nice.

Sizing is ridiculous

Likewise to all of the other reviews, this jacket is super cool across the board, but holy cow the sizing is insane. My wife is 5'-10" and typically needs xl for length, etc. but this jacket is HUGE on me (husband) who is 6'-1" 225lbs! It literally fit me like a Men's 3XL, and I'm not exaggerating. Again, love the jacket, but am returning because the way this jacket runs just absolutely does not make sense.

I was super excited about this coat, and bought my usual size for Patagonia jackets (S). I read that it ran a little big, but still figured w. extra layers on underneath, this would be fine. Boy was I wrong. The sizing is SO NUTS. The sleeves ran 5 inches past the ends of my hands, and I could easily fir 2 more people inside this coat with me. Returned immediately- no way to make this work and not feel like I was a small child wearing adult clothes. This is beyond unfashionable and frankly unusable given how huge it is.

Runs Big

Bought this I my normal size and it was very big. Had to return it for the next size down but other then that I love it. Very warm and doesn?t feel restricting when wearing warmer clothes. And I like that the zipper doesn?t go all the way down so you have more movement at the bottom. Can?t wait to wear it all winter in Chicago.
