Spring 2015 version is great! Read on.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium
  • Height: 5'9"
  • Weight: 150lbs

This is a review of the SPRING 2015 version of these pants. It seems older versions fit differently.

First, the fit is slimmer than expected. I don't have particularly muscular thighs, and have relativily thin ankles. If this is not your body type, you may find it too tight. This is closer to the SLIM FIT of Patagonia, but is labeled as Regular Fit.

Second, the shorts have an 8 inch inseam. These are just right for wearing around town or while travelling. For comparison, the Patagonia Baggies (Longs) have 7 in inseams, and those are too short for me.

Last, the material is quite thin, these pants are best used as three season pants. The fabric does stretch, and the gusset works well. Even in 90 degree temps, I never felt the pants were too stuffy. The mesh front pockets seem awkwardly placed, but function just fine and help in venting.

Again, slightly different fit than expected. For comparison, the Patagonia Quandary pants in 33x30 and the Quandary shorts in 33 both fit me well. The GI III pants are only slightly LESS slim than the Quandary pants, and the inseam is closer to a 31 than a 32.

Overall, great pants that should see a lot of use. Most negative reviews are centered around fit so best to try these on before purchasing them.

Soft yet Durable

I wore these pants for 7 days straight for a trek on Kilimanjaro and they were perfect from the base in the jungle, all the way up to the high alpine. I switched out of them for the summit push, but aside from that i lived in them. Couldn't be happier with this purchase

    Great pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I am 5' 8" 200lbs and purchased the XL. The pants fill well around the waist but are a little long (as pants). However, I have mostly worn them as shorts, which are the perfect length.

Lightweight and dries super fast. Where them all the time.

    Super pants!

I am 6ft 1 and 174lbs. I ordered the large for 34 waist. It is perfect at waist and perfect length. I like the non shinny material in grey. It is very soft very comfortable with plenty of legroom for climbing/hiking. Soft and thin material should be comfortable in the summer. Really go for it and buy it!

      Awful fit for me

I'm 6ft1, 32 inch waist, 33 inch inseam. I ordered a medium understanding that the legs might be just a tad short. But the legs on these were way off, equivalent to about 30-inch inseam in other pants. (I tried on four other brands in a 32-in inseam and they were all at least 1.5-2 inches longer.) They also fit weird elsewhere -- tight in the groin, and with pockets that dug too far inwards toward the centerline. Of the five pants I tried, these were easily the worst fit for me. They might work for you if you're less tall, but for me, back they go.

        Use it for everything

I've used these pants for almost 8 years in everything from jungle conditions to the desert and up to the peaks. These are super durable, light weight, and dry quickly. The colors and fit make them easy to take into town. The attached belt makes packing even lighter. Only issue is that you have to find just the right size. When I'm hiking up mountains and need extra stretch, these aren't super forgiving. I had to up a size, but would prefer a bit of stretch.

          Hot Pants

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are my go to pants for hiking, travelling, and just about anything outdoors. They're comfortable. They fit my larger legs so they may be baggy on thinner guys. Definately a relaxed fit. They fit better than my Mtn Hardware convertible pants. Zip close pocket so I don't lose important stuff. The convertible part is nice for cooler mornings and warmer afternoons. I've had zero issues with these pants.

          Good stuff

I like everyting about these pants except a few things: the shorts zip off and are shorter than what I like-these are about 3" above knees, they run kind of short (mine could be about 1" longer) and the hip pockets are small. Other than those things, they are sweet. Super comfy, great material dries quickly. I would still recommend these to people noting what I said above!

              great and functional pants

I use these pants to wet wade when fly fishing. I find these to be quick drying and extremely abrasion resistant when bush wacking on the way in and out of the river. They are great for keeping the sun at bay and wear great after the fact as well. The river mud washes off every time too with no spot cleaning or extra washing required. Also they are about as comfortable as they get. Have 2 pairs and want another.
