I got this in a medium, while I am normally a small -= people usually say size up to fit layers, but I found sizing up to be too sized up- its nice though so will exchange for a small

Don't hesitate to buy it, you will love it. Its so cozy and yummy. I'm usually an XS but bought the Small so I could wear hoodies or sweaters underneath. Especially great deal with sale on Backcountry.

I've been shopping around for a parka-length jacket that would cover my butt, which is always cold, and that wouldn't be overkill for the mild winters I generally experience at home in California. I honestly expected a longer length fleece zip up sweatshirt with a good amount of movement and stretch. When my parka arrived, I was surprised that it was heavier than expected (think wool coat instead of fleece or puffer). The fabric is closer to sheepskin than it is like Patagonia's other synthetic fleeces, and doesn't stretch much. The hood is big enough to fit over a beanie but I wish it was deeper and cozier. Right after my parka arrived I took it to Montana for a week and I have to say I'm super pleased with the way it performed around town! There was enough room to wear a few layers under it, and even in falling snow, wind, and in temps below freezing, I stayed nice and cozy (including my butt!). I found myself choosing this coat over my more technical puffer pretty much every time I went outside! The wrist cuffs block out the cold well but the sleeves aren't long enough to hide your hands in, so I usually kept my hands in my pockets, which are deep enough to also hold a pair of gloves, keys, wallet and phone, even though they lack a zipper to secure your stuff. The fabric is lovely under the hand and very plush. Every time I wear the jacket, my husband says I look like a little bear, and should add ears to the hood! Now that I'm back home and in warmer temps, it's still my go to for evening dog walks or windy mornings, and I rarely overheat (as long as I skip the midlayer). Although there are some tweaks I'd make to this coat to make it even more cozy and useful, I'm definitely pleased with how it's performed and will continue to use it a ton. It's cute enough for everyday around town wear, and holds up well to chilly weather. I found it true to size, with the caveat that it's not sized as roomily as I generally expect outerwear to be. I'm a curvy size 4-6 and the small fit me without a lot of extra wiggle room through the hips and back/shoulders. For a snugglier, oversized fit, I would probably need to size up.
