Escape the sun.

You know the old joke: if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, etc. Well, just because you protect yourself from the sun with the Patagonia Duckbill Camp doesn't mean you're going to turn into a mobile mallard. This ultra-light cap dries in a flash, and its mesh panels prevent your head from pruning from excess sweat. The Coolmax sweatband keeps your eyes free from drips.

From the Uintas to the Arctic

I. Love. This. Hat!

Backpacking in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge presents more than a few challenges, mosquitos being among them. I needed a hat that I could shove in the brain of my pack, not take up too much precious space, but be able to pop right into action when a headnet was required.

I took this hat on an expedition this summer, after testing it out as a running hat throughout the spring. My hair journey has been varied, and this cap has kept my head cool from long long braids to my now close-cropped 'do.

I love this hat for how lightweight it is, easy to adjust, easy to throw in anything and pull out later, looking none the worse for wear.

Awesome Running Hat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Lightweight, keeps the sun out of your eyes, sweat out of your eyes and doesnt hardly add any heat to your head. Perfect active hat.

sAweet Lid!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I use this for two purposes. Trail running and fitting under my climbing helmet. Looks good, feels good, smash-able in your pack and it breaths well while making you look good and it dries really fast. So perfect with just the right amount of sun protection!

It Breathes!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Finally, a hat that is breathable and looks good! It's super light weight too, I barely notice it on my head. The duck bill is long enough to block out the sun but short enough that even with my head down I can see those tree limbs that are trying to take off my head!

Maybe the greatest hat of all time

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Baseball caps are fine, but to be totally honest they're a little bit uncomfortable. Run or hike or do anything to sweat in them, and they start turning a little salty. They get some nice fades, but they're not any-activity utilitarian.

I had an adidas climacool cap that I used for running for maybe 10 years. It was getting pretty nasty. I liked how light it was, but it had a larger inflexible cap that proved annoying. If it was windy and I was hiking, I couldn't turn the cap around because it would hit my pack - but then it would blow off.

This thing. It's got a luxurious sweatband. The cap doesn't get in the way. You can bend it in whatever direction. The color is great. It looks good forwards or backwards, flipped up or not.

Imagine a hybrid between your favorite cycling cap, a trucker, and a running specific hat - that's this.

Now I want more.

Daddy-daughter win!!

Having a 4 year old is hard, especially one as strong-willed as mine is (just like her mother). Little did I know when I brought home matching camo Patagonia hats tonight that it will be the daddy-daughter equivalent of a best friend’s necklace. She loved them so much she insisted on sleeping with both of our new hats by her bed. I appreciate any opportunity to win as a dad. I recommend this hat to all customers, but make sure you buy one for your BFF too!

Hit me up if you need help picking some out!

    Best Trail Running Hat

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I mostly wear a hat when I'm running to keep the sweat out of my eyes, and maybe light rain. This does the job perfectly, and has way better ventilation than your standard trucker cap. It would've had 5 stars if it were easier to adjust. I throw it in the wash after every run and it tightens, and I have to fight with the clasp to loosen it back to my size again. I wish Patagonia still offered the red and blue style.

There is no duckin' around in this hat

What more do you need in warm sunny weather than a breathable cap that also keeps the sun out of your face? The answer is: nothing. I've used this hat from anything to white water rafting trips to trail runs. Best adventure partner any girl could ever ask for. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

The Perfect Hat for Warmer Weather

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this hat for my girlfriend, who is a redhead and fair complected. She absolutely loves the style and color. She was looking for a light, breathable hat to take hiking in the warmer months. This Duckbill Cap is flexible, breathable, and easy to pack along for camping trips. A definite "Yes!" for any outdoorsman wardrobe.

    Can't beat it...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wear this hat on almost every run. It keeps the sun off you're face and let's your head breathe as if it wasn't there. Definitely gets style and durability points as well.

    Duckbill for the win!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I originally wanted the visor version of this hat, but it didn't work for me so I tried this hat and love it! The mesh is awesome and helps keep you cool on super hot days. The fabric of the hat is pretty rad and quick drying so if you do get it wet to help cool you down or are using it for water activities, it wont be a sopping mess for hours like a typical hat would be. very cool!

    Keep it cool

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had been looking for a good hat that I can take running or on tours, and this Duckbill Cap works like a charm! Perfect size and shape, and doesn't get in the way, but still keeps the sun out! Super light and breathable, and it can pack down pretty small, in case you need to throw it in a pack. Great for casual wear as well.

    Perfect for trail running

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

In order to keep myself from seeing just how dauntingly long an uphill is when I'm running, I wear big hats. I have waist-length, thick hair that retains a lot of heat no matter the weather. I've been running in truckers' hats for years in order to have some ventilation but the mesh of the duckbill is far preferable. This hat can easily pack anywhere - any bag or waistband.

    Interesting hat

It's an interesting hat, so I don't want to be discouraging, keep um coming Patagonia. Here's the cons though. The mesh on top is a good idea, but it's surprisingly thick and slightly heavy compared to other running style hats. It being all white isn't the greatest either, kind of clashes with the front and will be prone to discoloring. The brim is unshapable, so it either sits right or it doesn't, you can't mold or bend it. It's fits my wife better than me. She likes it. I look like a seven year old in it, and it feels a little heavy on me.

      My new favorite.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Well, I love the duckbill series so this purchase was kind of a no-brainer. However, I have a ton of hair and often sweat through my duckbill trucker, which makes me feel like I've got the Florida Everglades going on in my hat (and is pretty unpleasant). My husband kept telling me that I would probably like this hat more than the trucker version, so I took his out for a long bout the other day and was thoroughly impressed. I also own the visor and absolutely love it (because visors and high pony tails are the coolest and totally underrated in terms of comfort) but I think this might be my new favorite go-to. The brim seems slightly larger than the original duckbill cap (which my husband owns), but I'll take more face shade any day of the week! Picked up the piton colorway and it's spunky as all heck. Reminds me of my dad's old running cap, for sure.

      Best running hat

This hat is just like my dad used to wear. Comfortable, well ventilated, stashable, and does a great job keeping sweat/sun out of your eyes. I use this for long trail running days in the heat. When it gets dirty I just toss it in the washing machine with my other running clothes and comes out like new every time. With all of the new colors I am going to pick up a couple more for my collection.
