Face Winter with Grace and Poise.

Winter seemed like it would be fun until back-to-back storms and howling arctic winds came rolling in to make your walk to and from work anything but pleasant. When winter throws its worst at you, slip into the Patagonia Women's Downtown Parka and put the season back in its place. Insulated with ethically sourced down and made of a recycled polyester fabric, the jacket not only keeps you warm and cozy, but it keeps your conscience feeling warm and fuzzy too. With a slim cut, the Downtown delivers a flattering fit, while its full-length design keeps everything from your head to your knees nice and warm. An oversized collar provides a dramatic look that keeps your neck and chin warm, and converts into a hood for additional weather protection.

    Great for Colorado winters!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This coat is warm--like WARM, warm--which is great, since I live in Colorado where the winters can be pretty brutal. I love the height of the collar, because it will definitely protect my face from the wind. The hood is also big enough so you can still wear a hat as well. There's some elastic in the wrists to keep the cold out, and the length is just a little bit longer than most other coats like it, which is great since I'm pretty tall (see below).

The zippers on the pockets seem a little less rugged than the ones on other coats I've owned, but they make it look much more polished. It is definitely more form-fitting, but that was exactly what I was looking for.

For reference, I'm 5'9", 125lb and took a Small. I can still wear a fleece comfortably underneath it too!

    Love the Fit and Warmth!

    Size purchased: S

Was worried @ size based on other reviews....I usually wear a size small in Patagonia clothing so I just went with the small jacket. It is a perfect fit with sweatshirts/sweaters layered underneath it.

I am just hoping the material is stain resistant. It has a satin like finish that I am concerned will stain up quickly/easily.

    Love it!!!

So warm and cozy! Its pretty puffy but as I said, extremely warm. I originally got the XS but ended returning it and getting the Small because it was a little tight on my chest (I'm a 32D). I got the dark ruby last year and I can't wait for it to get cold enough to wear!!! I definitely recommend this coat.

    Love this coat!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'9"

I purchased late in the season for a great price and am sad in a way that the cold weather has(most likely) ended (I live in Colorado which has crazy weather....could snow again). I will definitely be using this like crazy next year. Warm, cozy, the length is perfect. I am 5'9" with long arms and legs (you shorter girls may have some issues). Normally I wear a medium (10) in clothes and I was right at the edge of the Medium measurements so I went up a size to be safe based on previous reviews. I am a 36 C and the coat fits with a light fleece underneath, but not much room in the chest area...all other areas fit like a dream (extra room, not too tight). If you do look up slim fit on Patagonia's website you will see that slim fit is made for base layers only (think light thermal like a Hot Chillys). I am not worried and I am sure this coat will block out the wind and cold that Colorado weather brings. Also I have heard complaints of zippers and mine has no issues, just need to be careful. Maybe if you don't have long arms the main zipper is hard to reach/line up from bottom, I just lifted the bottom up.
I highly recommend this coat and especially at BC/S&C pricing. Enjoy!

Amazing Look, Great for Moderate cold

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 110lbs

First, I bought this parka during the semi-annual sale so I got it for practically half off, so for the price I am super happy with the jacket. However, after wearing the parka in 25-35 F degree weather I have to say that you definitely need to layer underneath to stay warm. One major reason for this, is that when it's really windy, you can feel it. The jacket does a great job of keeping in your heat, especially when you have a pullover or light jacket underneath. Functionality wise, it's great, only complaint is the zipper gets stuck sometimes and you have to work to get it unstuck. Style wise, I couldn't be happier, this is one of the most flattering parka you can find! I got black so it goes with pretty much everything. I also appreciate the hood, it keeps you warm and doesn't have ridiculous fur on it. Last note, I usually wear xs or s in items, and I decided to order a small in this jacket so I could layer! It's perfectly snug with a Patagonia pullover underneath. Also, for you ladies out there, I'm usually a 34B and this jacket doesn't ever feel too tight on the chest when layering underneath the jacket, It zips all the way up, and feels very comfortable. Overall, its a great parka keeps you warm and looks great, but the one thing I would stress, is that I don't think this jacket is for very very cold weather (20s), it just isn't thick enough, especially for the retail price. So if you need something for extreme weather, I would not recommend spending nearly 400 on this parka. Hope this helps!

    Warm and flattering

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Bought this as a gift for my mother and she loves it. It's incredibly warm and thick, but still has a shape. She loves the dark ruby color. Great jacket.

Best Winter Coat I've Ever Owned

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 110lbs

My third winter with this coat is winding down and it still looks as good as the day I received it. I'm ALWAYS cold so this is perfect for me. It's amazing how much warmer my body is when my knees and thighs are covered. The XS fits me perfectly. It's more form-fitting and not boxy like other coats I tried. Great investment!

Size up if you have big shoulders!

I lift but I dont have huge arms, and normally wear a Medium or large in the womens Patagonia down sweater. No way is a Large working for me, I can't even lift my arms, it is so tight through the shoulders. Hoping the XL will work!

      Great coat for Boston winters

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Love this coat. Keeps me warm and I like the high collar- adds more style than your typical "puffy coat". It is very long on me (I'm 5'3") and it hits me mid calf, but that's what I was looking for. I get a lot of compliments on it and recommend it to everyone. The zipper caught on me, as others have said, the first few times I wore it but not anymore.

      Nice coat, but...

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small

I've always loved this coat and each season I say I'm going to buy one. Finally, I did and what happens? The color is not at all as it appeared nor as it was named. Dark Ruby? Um, that would describe a deep red to me, though I could see in the photos it wasn't that. However, it did come across as more of a bronze-like reddish color so I thought that would be a nice neutral color. Well, it was neither dark ruby nor bronze-like reddish, but rather a deep dusty rose. It has a great deal of pink in the hue. So disappointing! I wish manufacturers would name the colors as they truly are rather than trying to come up with something that sounds good for marketing. I guess I have to wait another year to see if they come out with some really great color...like a beautiful blue or green, or bring back the amazing espresso brown they had moons ago. The styling of the coat is great! Yes, the collar/hood is a bit odd looking when rolled up, but I can get past that. It's a very flattering coat, but does run on the small side. I'm a petite athletic build with muscular arms and normally wear 2-4 or XS in clothing. I could wear the small with lightweight sweaters, but if I were to put it over a heavier sweater (which I wouldn't) it would have been a bit restrictive.

      What's w the hood?

I really wanted to like this coat - I've been searching for a replacement to my North Face Metropolis. This coat failed. The fit was great, I liked the length, seemed like it would be very warm. But that collar-slash-'hood' thing was horrible. Big mistake in design. You look like you belong on Star Trek. I am sadly paying the $6 return shipping fee and sending it back :(

Not good for cold weather, not warm

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: M
      • Height: 5'3"
      • Weight: 143lbs

I got the Downtown Parka and I'm wearing it now that winter has come. It is not warm at all, this Parka doesn't offer any protection against cold weather and don't even wanna tell you how cold I can feel at -9 celsius. I have to wear a sweater, another jacket and then it and still feel so cold on my legs! Totally and unfair waist of money.

      Wonderful down parka, good quality!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 145lbs

Slim, lightweight and comfortable but warm parka. Really nice model and good fit. Size Medium is perfect for me, even the sleeves are long enough (I'm 174cm/ 5'9'' and 66kg/145lb, athletic). The coat is warm enough even here in Finland...

      Sizing for the hourglass shape

      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: L
      • Height: 5'4"
      • Weight: 140lbs

Originally ordered a medium after reading the reviews, figured it would fit well enough. It almost did, just not across my chest (34D). Thanks to Back Country for a rapid exchange, the roomier L is very comfortable across the chest and is longer, which I appreciate. Not much difference that I can see in the shoulders and the arm length. I think body shape is important to consider in addition to your weight/height. Comfy coat, I am less afraid of NYC's winter this year!

      Warm, stylish coat!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'5"
      • Weight: 135lbs

Great color & length, very happy with this jacket so far. It's particularly warm & I like the slender fit. The zipper pockets are a bit tricky to open/close at times but overall very pleased.

      Unanswered Question

I'm 5'5" and 128 pounds. What size should I get? I don't want the jacket to be too tight and I may or may not wear some extra layers underneath. Thank you!

Is this goose down or duck down?

Hi Michelle-The Patagonia Downtown Parka is a 600 fill Duck Down parka. It has a durable water repellent finish on a polyester shell. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any other questions.

      Unanswered Question

Is there a warmth difference between the downtown parka and down with it parka?
Do they both have a tall collar?
How do they compare to the warmth of the North face Arctic parka?
      Thanks!

What are the major differences between the Patagonia Downtown Parka and the Down With It Parka? Are the lengths the same?

      Best Answer

      Julie,

The Downtown Parka is longer than the Down With It Parka. Downtown will go to past your knees, or a little longer, depending on your height. The Down With Parka is knee length, or a little shorter if you are tall. The Also, Downtown will have a less puffy look, due to it's smaller baffling construction.

Does this hit the ankle or mid-length? I saw the same one at REI page that says it's a mid length coat but this says full length.
