    Patagonia Down Sweater

A closet "must-have" in my opinion. I bought this for my dad for Christmas and he loves it. It's a warm and easy to wear everyday, goes with everything. You can wear it under a shell skiing or out to coffee or around town.

      Best Jacket I've Ever Owned

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: medium
      • Height: 5'6"
      • Weight: 165lbs

I've only had the jacket for a couple of weeks now (got it for Christmas) but it is easily the best jacket I've ever owned. I used to be a North Face guy but once I tried Patagonia and specifically the Down Sweater, I'm not sure I'll ever go back. My North Face jacket is heavy and bulky and isn't super warm which isn't great since I travel a lot for work in colder regions. This jacket is super light, and flexible which makes packing it a breeze. Nice and warm (above ~30 degrees) and the comfort and flexibility is top notch. In fact, I bought the woman's version for my wife and daughter as well. Plus, Patagonia has a lifetime warrantee...huge fan. Also a big fan of Backcountry. I buy my mountain bikes and components from them as well. Great company and customer service!

      Best Down Around

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 6'4"

I purchased this jacket as a gift and it has been perfect. Great style, well constructed, light and packable, fits perfectly, and great color options offered. Patagonia is known for quality construction and this jacket is no exception. I would highly recommend to anyone looking.

      The Best

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for my dad & its his new favorite layer! It's super warm but isn't so puffy that it's restricting. I chose the hoodless version so he could wear a shell over it and not have too much fabric around his neck. The fit is true to size & not too boxy making it very flattering, Definitely a wardrobe staple!

      My most-used down jacket

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XS
      • Height: 5'6"
      • Weight: 125lbs

My XS' fit is a bit wide in the abdomen, which can let in cold air around the tummy if not careful with base layers. It does run a little bit short, ending just around the belt line.

Terrific jacket and warm enough with a shell on top for standing around in freezing temperatures (-7 to 0 °C) with a mild breeze, even if not active. I wear this in the winter as long as it's dry out, and without a breeze, it holds its own for general walking around down to around -12 °C (which is the coldest I've used it). Packed down, the jacket is about 5" x 8" (the larger index card size), and if stuffed into its pocket / stuff sack is about 2.5" high. It can compact further if shoved into a pack, so as a layer it's also super versatile because it simply fits wherever I put it.

Its cuffs have started to fray where jacket velcro cuffs have nibbled at them, but durability-wise seems to have held up pretty well after four seasons of fairly heavy use.

I also have a Dynafit Cho Oyu, which is a little longer and a little more trim of a fit. It doesn't pack down as well, and the face fabric seems -- subjectively -- a little less durable, so I use it when it's chillier or when I want insulation around the face (it's hooded). But for a general, all-purpose puffy, the Patagonia is really tough to beat.

      Great jacket

At 5’10”-5,11” and 190-200lbs I have an XL and it’s arguably a bit large by some people’s taste but it’s fine for me since I sometimes layer. I have a bigger build and usually run hot as well as travel a lot for work and live in the northeast.

        Patagonia Down Sweater

        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 175lbs

Living in Florida this is about the only coat i need. Its light and packable for my backpacking trips and looks good around town too.

        Love the Green

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 170lbs

This is a super light but warm down jacket. It is definitely high quality as expected from Patagonia. I like the zippers for all the pockets and adjustable hem is perfectly placed inside two pockets. My favorite color for this product is Micro Green

        Quality Goods

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

This is my go to puffy, at 800 fill the quality of down is top notch. Patagonia is known for quality construction and this jacket is no exception. It's got a solid zipper, quality stitching, and an overall solid build. The fit is very true to size and is great! I'd definitely recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a solid and toasty down jacket!

        Great Jacket

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

Bought this to replace an aging North Face piece. I decided to go with real down fill instead of a synthetic solution. Patagonia's efforts to source down more ethically was certainly appreciated when weighing my options.

Performance wise, this jacket is as expected: warm and light. The compress-ability should make this an easy piece to include during travel. As usual, the Patagonia fit and finish as excellent and expect to enjoy this jacket for many seasons to come.

        Warm and Lightweight

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Size Bought: XL
        • Height: 6'1"
        • Weight: 210lbs

The down sweater is a perfect piece to wear around town or layer under your shell for extra cold ski days. Also great on a ski tour due to its lightweight and packable nature. This jacket comes with the high quality you would expect from Patagonia. It is a true workhorse of my wardrobe.

        A Favorite

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 5'11"
        • Weight: 224lbs

What are great jacket, my first down jacket and I have no been disappointed. I find this jacket is super versatile, I've used as a layer underneath a shell in colder/wetter conditions and just one its own as a top layer when the weather is a little milder or I'm just in and out of places. The fit is great, not too tight but not too loose that air creeps in from the bottom. The water resistance of the jacket is an added bonus, able to get me through for a little while if I get caught out in the rain unexpectedly. Jacket also collapses well when I get too hot and need to store it in my daypack, I rarely go out for the day during the winter without bringing this jacket along.

        Size and Comfort

        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 180lbs

I'm 5'10" 180 lbs and a Large fits well, granted I have broad shoulders. Jacket is very comfortable and thin. Stays very warm in 30 degree weather. Have yet to try it in colder weather. So far, great product.

        Puffy

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'6"
        • Weight: 145lbs

Lightweight, warm, and packable all make this a great puffy from Patagonia. I've worn it as a baselayer underneath my waterproof gear for fly fishing in sub freezing temperatures and it has kept me warm. It also makes for a great everyday jacket to wear to school and work in the wintertime. It's great for cold mornings and makes the first 10 minutes of driving to work until your car warms up a much more enjoyable experience.

Best Jacket On Earth? It’s Got My Vote!

Instant warmth, comfort & style. Crazy deep inside zipper pocket is badass little stash stop (wallet, keys, phone, AirPods & gloves/180 earmuffs all fit in there)! Sizing: I’m 5’11, 195 & bought an XL to layer underneath. Looks good by itself as well though. 👍

How does this jacket do in windy conditions when it's not layered?

It'll block most wind but it's not entirely wind proof as it's not meant for acting like a wind proof shell jacket.

Also it's not meant to be worn in cold temps without layering.

How does the sleeve length compare to the Arc'teryx Thorium? I have the latter in medium, and the sleeves are 1-2 inches shorter than I'd like. How is the overall fit compared to the Thorium? Boxier?

Ok this or the Arcteryx cerium jacket lt , I want the one that's gonna last and not tear

          Best Answer

Dick, I would go with this over the Cerium. The Cerium is geared towards the user looking for the lightest option while Patagonia keeps the down sweater a little heavier but, more robust. I've had mine for over 10 years.

          Is this jacket machine washable?

          Best Answer

          Michael,

This is machine washable! Go to the Patagonia Product Care Guide and scroll down to the Down Insulation section.

It's quite simple and I do it all the time.

Does either the Patagonia down jacket or the Patagonia nano air run big? I am 6'3 250, i ordered the mountain hardwear nitrous in XXL and it swallowed me, so now I would rather pay more and get one of these two jackets. I wear an xxl in true slim fitting designs but I can wear xl sometimes when they run big. Please help

          Rob,

Even though you're a Timbers fan, I'll do my best to help you. ;)

I think an XL Down Sweater might actually be the ticket for you. The Nano Air runs slightly slimmer than the Down Sweater, so XXL might be an option there but I would try the Down Sweater first.

          Is M Good For me?

My son's Patagonia coat came, correct size, color and just what I wanted......but the packaging smells like cigarettes! Ewwww.
I'll have to air the coat out before gifting it to him.
Not a fan of the awful smell😒

Not sure if to blame the UPS driver for the smell. My Daughters Coat Just arrived and it also has a heavily cigarette smells.

It could be that that someone is a heavy smoker at Backcountry Warehouse...!!!???

hey if you are not familiar with down it has a smell to it. This is probably the smell you are getting. It does kind of smell cigarette smokish I guess. Depends on the persons view I guess. The shell of all this gear anymore is so thin that the down smell passes through it easily.

What would be a good size for someone who is 6' and 150lbs. I fit half of the small size characteristics abd half of the medium size characteristics. Is there room for an extra layer in your normal size?

          Best Answer

Your body is a medium but your arms are probable a large or XL! (I have loooong arms at 6'1'') Look at the sizing chart. Do you know what sleeve length you are? The problem with being tall and thin is you will rarely find a good athletic fit, especially at your weight.

I'm 5'11, 170 lbs and the Large fits great with a little room. It doesn't look like it's too big, and allows me to swing my arms (on belay, etc). I tried the medium and it fits, but really no room to move and add layers underneath.

What size for someone who is 5'8" and 195 lbs and doesn't like the jackets too snug. Are the arms very long or is there elastic to hold them up?

Does this still come with the lifetime warranty straight from Patagonia? If anyone was ever to happen do the jacket would i deal with back country or Patagonia?
          Thanks

My son is 6ft 210- (athletic build-broad shoulders)-he is going to college in PA. We are from Fl.. Two questions:

          L or XL

Is this a good jacket for PA?

I'm considering buying the men's jacket. I really like the black color. What size would you recommend? I'm 5'10", 150 lb, broad shoulders, no tummy. I like classic fit. Thank you!

          Best Answer

I am 6'2", 180b and i wear a size Large that fits quite well. I would think a medium might fit you... But it's hard to say as i don't know exactly how broad you are. Did you try clicking on the size guide and measuring your chest? Patagonia usually does a pretty good job with their size guide and from the looks of it this product runs pretty true to size!

I am only about 5'9 but have a stocky build, and I weigh about 170. I want to use the down sweater as my winter jacket. Should I go with the medium or a large? (Considering I have to layer and what not)

Looks kinda puffy for a mid-layer...is this the case?

          Best Answer

          Ben,

This isn't that puffy. It's only a 13 oz jacket so it's pretty light. For comparison this is only slightly thicker than the Ghost Whisperer by Mountain Hardwear.

The picture above (in my opinion) doesn't do a great job of representing the thickness of the jacket. It's a rather flat picture.
