    Lightweight warm jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

My husband loved the previous version of this jacket, it was a medium and was excited to update after the zipper failed on the last one. The new medium jacket is much smaller and rides up around his chest and armpits. The material is very slippery and hard to hold a backpack on one shoulder without it sliding off. He got his old jacket repaired and continues to wear that one.

    Well worth it

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

This jacket Is great. I Tried 3 different down puff jackets before this one (2 marmot and 1 north face) and all 3 of those brands leaked feathers.
So far so good on this one.

    Wish i found it sooner

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

This is by far the best jacket I have ever bought. Extremely light, stylish, comfortable and warm. Backcountry had a great price on it. Not sure what makes it a sweater, but very much feels like a jacket.

    Amazing

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Was hesitant about ordering this jacket, but could not be happier. It'as so light but at the same time it's very very warm. The quality of the down allows it to be packed into a very small form factor, which makes it ideal for travel. The build quality is second to none, as with all Patagonia products.

    Awesome, lightweight jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: X-Large

Bought the jacket because of the warmth and weight stated in other reviews, intended to use for backpacking. Haven't had the opportunity to use for the high country, but have worn in the Sierra foothills during chilly mornings. At 25 degrees I was nice and toasty.

    Playmaker

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I love this jacket! It's lightweight and packs easily, but keeps me warm in the cold Utah winters. I purchased mine in black and it is versatile to wear in just about any situation. I would definitely recommend for an everyday jacket!

Great jacket for some a size smaller

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium

Several reviewers have pointed out the small sizing to these Patagonia jackets. At least in my case it's the distribution of the small sizing. The shoulders and sleeves of my medium jacket fit fine. It's around the waist where things get dicey. I have a 32 inch waist and the thing fits like a girdle. No other medium size jacket I own has a similar problem. Apparently they designed it this way but it's hard to understand why.

    Jacket Perfection

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Med

Seriously, I never want to take it off. Super light. Repels light water. Warm, but breathes well and doesn't feel humid inside. Easily my favorite jacket purchase ever.

    Good, but not Great

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

Patagonia needs to make their jackets American size, not European. I wear an XL with every other jacket or shirt except Patagonia. This thing was too tight, and I'm not sure if Patagonia is simply trying to skimp on cost. But as expensive as their jackets are, this thing should fit perfectly.

Also, while the jacket is warm for the size, can we update the shell a bit Patagonia? This thing rips at the drop of a dime. Don't even think of getting it near a fence or a flame. Let's update the jacket some, and get a shell that is firmer and one that doesn't melt if you're roasting marshmallows.

Aside from that the jacket is warm and thin, making it very portable. It just greatly needs an update to address the issues mentioned.

    Great jacket!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

This jacket is so well fit and warm it's not even funny. Kansas winds can be brutal this time of year. I walk outside and every part of my body is cold except my torso and arms where the jacket covers. I would say this jacket is great for 30 and above if you are just wearing a t-shirt underneath. If you wear a heavier layer underneath you'll probably be good even lower in temperature. I would NOT buy this jacket for the full price of $229. For the price I got it, I would have bought 2. Wait for the sales, and don't forget about price matching. I purchased a large so I could wear a button up underneath and layers. Medium would have fit me well with a single layer underneath. Large is not too big. This jacket may look bulky in the pictures, but it isn't. Very lightweight.

    Warm, lightweight, packs well

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Gave this as a gift and he loves it so far. The jacket is true to size.
It's warm enough to go skiing in and packs down small which will be helpful for backpacking. Its great that the jacket can be stuffed into its own pocket.
He says he's likely to purchase another one in the future.

Can you hug a jacket back?

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had my Patagonia Down Sweater for a couple of years now and love it. The down creates a soft warm setup which is extremely comfortable and versatile.

I start to wear this jacket (transitioning from the Nano Puff) when the weather starts to go below freezing. The fit is true to size, but I went up a size to add more flexibility with layering. I've used it several times as a ski jacket when it gets cold, and the extra size allows me to easily layer up without reducing mobility.

    Colorado Weather? No Problem.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

This purchase really solidified for me why I am so faithful to the Patagonia brand (not that I needed anymore reason to like Patagonia). I live in Colorado ski country, and in the big city too, it fits in perfectly with both settings -- this jacket was much warmer than expected, and looks amazing! The material is quality, and the effectiveness of keeping me warm is even better. The sizing was spot on too, which is super important. I am seriously considering ordering another one in black to add to my jacket collection.

    Unanswered Question

How does the sleeve length compare to the Arc'teryx Thorium? I have the latter in medium, and the sleeves are 1-2 inches shorter than I'd like. How is the overall fit compared to the Thorium? Boxier?

Ok this or the Arcteryx cerium jacket lt , I want the one that's gonna last and not tear

    Is this jacket machine washable?

    Best Answer

    Michael,

This is machine washable! Go to the Patagonia Product Care Guide and scroll down to the Down Insulation section.

It's quite simple and I do it all the time.

Does either the Patagonia down jacket or the Patagonia nano air run big? I am 6'3 250, i ordered the mountain hardwear nitrous in XXL and it swallowed me, so now I would rather pay more and get one of these two jackets. I wear an xxl in true slim fitting designs but I can wear xl sometimes when they run big. Please help

    Rob,

Even though you're a Timbers fan, I'll do my best to help you. ;)

I think an XL Down Sweater might actually be the ticket for you. The Nano Air runs slightly slimmer than the Down Sweater, so XXL might be an option there but I would try the Down Sweater first.

My son's Patagonia coat came, correct size, color and just what I wanted......but the packaging smells like cigarettes! Ewwww.
I'll have to air the coat out before gifting it to him.
Not a fan of the awful smell😒

hey if you are not familiar with down it has a smell to it. This is probably the smell you are getting. It does kind of smell cigarette smokish I guess. Depends on the persons view I guess. The shell of all this gear anymore is so thin that the down smell passes through it easily.

What would be a good size for someone who is 6' and 150lbs. I fit half of the small size characteristics abd half of the medium size characteristics. Is there room for an extra layer in your normal size?

I'm 5'11, 170 lbs and the Large fits great with a little room. It doesn't look like it's too big, and allows me to swing my arms (on belay, etc). I tried the medium and it fits, but really no room to move and add layers underneath.

What size for someone who is 5'8" and 195 lbs and doesn't like the jackets too snug. Are the arms very long or is there elastic to hold them up?

Does this still come with the lifetime warranty straight from Patagonia? If anyone was ever to happen do the jacket would i deal with back country or Patagonia?
    Thanks

My son is 6ft 210- (athletic build-broad shoulders)-he is going to college in PA. We are from Fl.. Two questions:

    L or XL

Is this a good jacket for PA?

I'm considering buying the men's jacket. I really like the black color. What size would you recommend? I'm 5'10", 150 lb, broad shoulders, no tummy. I like classic fit. Thank you!

    Best Answer

I am 6'2", 180b and i wear a size Large that fits quite well. I would think a medium might fit you... But it's hard to say as i don't know exactly how broad you are. Did you try clicking on the size guide and measuring your chest? Patagonia usually does a pretty good job with their size guide and from the looks of it this product runs pretty true to size!

I am only about 5'9 but have a stocky build, and I weigh about 170. I want to use the down sweater as my winter jacket. Should I go with the medium or a large? (Considering I have to layer and what not)

Looks kinda puffy for a mid-layer...is this the case?

    Best Answer

    Ben,

This isn't that puffy. It's only a 13 oz jacket so it's pretty light. For comparison this is only slightly thicker than the Ghost Whisperer by Mountain Hardwear.

The picture above (in my opinion) doesn't do a great job of representing the thickness of the jacket. It's a rather flat picture.

What's the tumble green look like in the real world? Is it a bright green like an emerald green?
