    Decent down sweater jacket.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 220lbs

Saw it on sale and bought it at a decent price, though elsewhere.
Men's XL fits true to size though it's slightly more roomy in the waist area but more narrow in the shoulders and arms, similar to the hoody version.
Have a matching set of the Down Sweater Vest, Non-hoody jacket and now the Hoody version to make a complete set... all in red ;)
Basically, it's the same as the hoody version but without the hood. The hand pockets are Not lined and should store gloves in them as well as a fleece cap for additional warmth in colder days.
Best to wear when it's high 30s F to 40s-50s with lightweight fleece underneath.
The down sweater clothing is NOT meant for Cold, wintry weather wear as in mid-30s F or below. The jacket then is meant to be worn as a mid-layer with base layers underneath and worn underneath an insulated jacket/parka as insulation. Contacted Patagonia help line and reps stated as much!
Wear this under a shell or insulated jacket/parka during (bitter) Cold, Wintry weather as an insulation layer. When it's warmer, then it can be worn as an outer layer with layers underneath for additional warmth.
Overall, it's a nice, relatively warm jacket for cooler temps as stated previously and it's fashionable.
It's expensive, hence Patagucci, so buy when it's on sale!

    Quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 210lbs

This is the first Patagonia Down Jacket I have owned and it is by far ome of the best. Great quality, if you are looking to buy dont hesitate.

    Gifted to brother in law

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

And he loves it! Can't go wrong with Patagonia. Good construction, great warranty, great fit, high warmth. 10/10.
Fits true to size. Fit - athletic i.e slim, but not too slim.

    Great jacket

    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 145lbs

Warm, durable, all around great purchase. I wear this climbing, skiing, everything. The only complaint I have is that I'm not personally a huge fan of the yellow color inside the Glades Green color. It's more vibrant in person that it seems from the picture. The shade of green on the outside of the jacket is great, but I prefer the yellow/gold inside Buffalo Green color for the Nano Puff. I wish this one came in that color. Oh well. Still a great jacket!

    Perfect For All Things Outdoors

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large

Having already bough two of these jackets for myself, I gifted one to my brother-in-law who was in need of a new jacket for ski season. He wears a Large in all Patagonia jackets, so I stuck with that for this purchase and he said the fit is excellent.

He's already gone up to the mountain twice with it on, and said that on a warmer day (30+) that he was wearing the jacket with just a long sleeve base layer underneath and couldn't have been more comfortable. Once he had finished a few runs he ended up packing it into itself and attaching it to his backpack with a carabiner for the rest of the day.

If you're on the fence about a versatile, good-looking down jacket, I don't think you can go wrong with the Down Sweater.

    Great versatility; light; nice fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I picked up this jacket recently in preparation of an upcoming ski trip to use as an insulating layer and it was fantastic. Not only was it great on the slopes, but I used it as a stand-alone jacket to head out to dinner/take walks/etc. The inside pocket is a nice touch, though I do wish there was some storage for larger items (i.e. thin liner fabric as a pocket to hold a pair of gloves, etc). The fit is pretty standard, not too tight, not too athletic.

    Classic

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Love everything about this jacket, lightweight warm and packable. I use this thing pretty much everyday in the winter weather im using it to layer at the resort or walking to class in Salt Lake City. Keeps me nice and toasty all winter long.

    Best All-Purpose Jacket

I use this jacket for everything year-round. I live in the northeast and I can easily use this jacket into December as my main coat. I have never had issues with feathers poking out and the black material looks almost as new as the day I bought it. I don't recommend washing it often as it tends to deteriorate most when you wash it. I would say the large fits fairly well on me - a medium would be a tight - athletic style fit.

Great jacket, but has some downsides

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 235lbs

I've been wearing this jacket for about a month now. The sizing is good, and seems true to size. I also like having a 3rd pocket, although I wish it were on the outside. Overall, this coat provides good warmth. The temperatures have been near zero the past week, and this jacket has been adequate in those temps. Much colder, and I would need to layer a bit more.

My only complaint is that I constantly have feathers poking out of the jacket. Is this normal? I didn't notice this at all the first couple of weeks, but now I have feathers sticking out all over the jacket. Will probably need to return.

    The Gift of Warmth

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 170lbs

I got this jacket as a gift for my father, and he's already told me how happy he is with this jacket. He has used it a handful of times and tells me that he doesn't need to layer up as much now with this insulated jacket. I got him a size large, and he's 5'10" and around 170lbs. He could get away with a medium, but it may be more restrictive in the shoulders/chest area if wearing anything thicker than a t-shirt.

    Great Versatile Jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 175lbs

This is a great all round jacket. It's lightweight and warm, with a sturdy feel to it. Perfect for running around the city and small mountain towns during the winter. When the temperatures drastically drop during an arctic front, I just add a light fleece shirt or vest and I'm totally comfortable. You could also wear this under your snow shell on those really cold days in the backcountry.

And a huge Thanks to Anthony Chukanov for assisting me with this purchase!

    Great Versatile Jacket!

    Love the coat!

I love this coat! It is the perfect fit, it is unbelievably lightweight but yet warm. I live in Minnesota and we are currently -10º windchills around -30º and I would not recommend this coat for long term exposure in this weather but I wore it for a quick trip to the store but had to help someone outside for a while and was amazed at how warm it kept me. It is amazing when the coat is so lightweight. My only comment is that it has a little different smell. I have owned some down filled jackets before (at least i thought it was down filled) and I don't recall this type of smell... It is not really noticeable by others and it is not offensive but it is something I noticed. Even if this smell stays forever I would buy this coat over and over again...

    LOVE this jacket! Highly Reccommend.

I was looking for a good down jacket to use both casually and for some outdoor adventures last year and I ended up going with this jacket. A year in and this jacket has been one of the best purchases I've made. I used it for some camping trips with temps as low as 20 (F) and it kept me warm, and I also just use it as a casual winter jacket because I think it looks great. I also took it with me on a month backpacking trip in Europe and it served me well in some of the cooler countries. It's SUPER lightweight and packs down into the pocket which makes it super easy to travel/hike with to have to throw on when it's cold (it also doubles as a perfect travel pillow). I chose this over Arcteryx, Outdoor Research, etc. and am extremely happy with the product after a year of heavy use. I will definitely be buying a new one whenever I run this one to the ground

    LOVE this jacket! Highly Reccommend.
    Unanswered Question

How does this jacket do in windy conditions when it's not layered?

    Unanswered Question

How does the sleeve length compare to the Arc'teryx Thorium? I have the latter in medium, and the sleeves are 1-2 inches shorter than I'd like. How is the overall fit compared to the Thorium? Boxier?

Ok this or the Arcteryx cerium jacket lt , I want the one that's gonna last and not tear

    Best Answer

Dick, I would go with this over the Cerium. The Cerium is geared towards the user looking for the lightest option while Patagonia keeps the down sweater a little heavier but, more robust. I've had mine for over 10 years.

    Is this jacket machine washable?

    Best Answer

    Michael,

This is machine washable! Go to the Patagonia Product Care Guide and scroll down to the Down Insulation section.

It's quite simple and I do it all the time.

Does either the Patagonia down jacket or the Patagonia nano air run big? I am 6'3 250, i ordered the mountain hardwear nitrous in XXL and it swallowed me, so now I would rather pay more and get one of these two jackets. I wear an xxl in true slim fitting designs but I can wear xl sometimes when they run big. Please help

    Rob,

Even though you're a Timbers fan, I'll do my best to help you. ;)

I think an XL Down Sweater might actually be the ticket for you. The Nano Air runs slightly slimmer than the Down Sweater, so XXL might be an option there but I would try the Down Sweater first.

    Is M Good For me?

My son's Patagonia coat came, correct size, color and just what I wanted......but the packaging smells like cigarettes! Ewwww.
I'll have to air the coat out before gifting it to him.
Not a fan of the awful smell😒

Not sure if to blame the UPS driver for the smell. My Daughters Coat Just arrived and it also has a heavily cigarette smells.

It could be that that someone is a heavy smoker at Backcountry Warehouse...!!!???

hey if you are not familiar with down it has a smell to it. This is probably the smell you are getting. It does kind of smell cigarette smokish I guess. Depends on the persons view I guess. The shell of all this gear anymore is so thin that the down smell passes through it easily.

What would be a good size for someone who is 6' and 150lbs. I fit half of the small size characteristics abd half of the medium size characteristics. Is there room for an extra layer in your normal size?

    Best Answer

Your body is a medium but your arms are probable a large or XL! (I have loooong arms at 6'1'') Look at the sizing chart. Do you know what sleeve length you are? The problem with being tall and thin is you will rarely find a good athletic fit, especially at your weight.

I'm 5'11, 170 lbs and the Large fits great with a little room. It doesn't look like it's too big, and allows me to swing my arms (on belay, etc). I tried the medium and it fits, but really no room to move and add layers underneath.

Does this still come with the lifetime warranty straight from Patagonia? If anyone was ever to happen do the jacket would i deal with back country or Patagonia?
    Thanks

My son is 6ft 210- (athletic build-broad shoulders)-he is going to college in PA. We are from Fl.. Two questions:

    L or XL

Is this a good jacket for PA?

I'm considering buying the men's jacket. I really like the black color. What size would you recommend? I'm 5'10", 150 lb, broad shoulders, no tummy. I like classic fit. Thank you!

    Best Answer

I am 6'2", 180b and i wear a size Large that fits quite well. I would think a medium might fit you... But it's hard to say as i don't know exactly how broad you are. Did you try clicking on the size guide and measuring your chest? Patagonia usually does a pretty good job with their size guide and from the looks of it this product runs pretty true to size!

I am only about 5'9 but have a stocky build, and I weigh about 170. I want to use the down sweater as my winter jacket. Should I go with the medium or a large? (Considering I have to layer and what not)

Looks kinda puffy for a mid-layer...is this the case?

    Best Answer

    Ben,

This isn't that puffy. It's only a 13 oz jacket so it's pretty light. For comparison this is only slightly thicker than the Ghost Whisperer by Mountain Hardwear.

The picture above (in my opinion) doesn't do a great job of representing the thickness of the jacket. It's a rather flat picture.
