Svelte shape in a down sweater.

From late-fall belays to powder-filled days, the figure-flattering Women’s Down Sweater Full-Zip Hooded Jacket from Patagonia slips under a wind-blocking vest or a weatherproof shell and acts as a warming midlayer. It also packs up small for travel and works as a top layer for Chicago shopping forays. Down insulation packs a powerful punch of heat without weighing heavily on your shoulders or taking up too much space in your suitcase.

Recycled polyester ripstop inside and out fends off frisky twigs and grabby thorns to keep this jacket looking good for years on end. The 800-fill Traceable Down uses feathers from geese that were treated right their whole lives, from not being force-fed to staying fully feathered until after they've passed. Horizontal quilting keeps the insulation in line for consistent, all-over warmth, while the feminine silhouette provides flattering style. Between the svelte touch and the consciously responsible materials, you'll try to find a reason to wear this light jacket year-round.

    • Adapted for chilly belays and shoulder season hikes
    • 800-fill down from non force-fed or live-plucked geese
    • Durable shell fabric made from recycled material
    • Treated with a DWR finish to repel light rain and drizzle
    • Insulated hood with single-pull adjustable drawstring
    • Internal zippered chest pockets doubles as a stuff sack
    • Zippered pockets for stashing wallet, phone, or gloves
    • Contoured fit with longer hem length for additional coverage
    • Item #PAT00HZ

I got this jacket for my girlfriend and she loves it. It is extremely lighweight and packable with a very flattering fit. Most importantly, it is warm, which means less complaining :D

    Warm, Packable, & Stylish

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I bought mine primarily for outdoor adventure and it has held up extremely well over 3 years. I'm 5'7 with an athletic build and busty chest, and purchased a large with the intention of layering. I liked the medium sizing better, but it became too tight with sweaters.

The jacket is long but it helps prevent the cold from getting in and you can use the elastic ties to cinch and adjust the hem. On it's own, it's kept me very warm during activity. However if it's below 30 and I don't layer with it, I'm definitely cold just walking around. That's in part to buying it a little large and the space it leaves between your skin.

The hood is adjustable as well. If it's not staying put, tug it down and it should catch. It easily fits over a helmet. Packed in its own pocket, it gets down about a 10" x 5" cube. It does the job when traveling with it, although not the smallest.

Mine has been very durable. Every time I think I've ripped it, the ripstop has done its job. The only downfall I've encounter is cleaning it. I have a bright blue color and some dirt stains just never come out. Not a huge deal but I do feel sloppy sometimes :P

I wear this jacket every day

Can't recommend this jacket enough!! I love it so much. It is warm enough to wear out and about town with just a base layer underneath, or it is a great, packable mid-layer for colder days on the ski hill. I am happy I ordered it in black because I can put black repair tape on tears and it is hardly noticeable. Just wish it didn't tear and feathers didn't leak out, but it is a down jacket and if you are active, a tear is inevitable. So far it has withstood extensive use, wearing it almost everyday for a year. Only complaint is the hood does get in the way of zipping my ski shell jacket all the way up since the hood is not helmet compatible. It is fine with my larger, insulated ski jacket that has more room.
SIZING-- I am usually a medium and I thought ordering a larger would give me more room to layer underneath. However, the large was too big. The medium fit true to size and I still have room to layer.

    Perfect Jacket

I love this coat. It's been a rough winter in Minnesota, and it stayed with me through it all. I use it on its own for kind of chilly days, layered with my nano air for pretty cold days, and layered it under my longer parka for the week that it was -30F. Can't wait to see how it performs climbing in spring and fall.

    Patagonia down sweater

I bought this for a Christmas gift for my mom and she loves it! I have one myself and can say this sweater is amazing in the winter! It is very lightweight due to the 850 fill down.

How Did I Live Without It?

    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I'm not sure how I lived in Utah for a year without this jacket or any puffy! I now wear this everywhere! It fits perfectly in the hips and I actually like the little cinch in the waist that most women's shirts and jackets have (I normally hate it) . Very warm and durable. Highly recommend.

I've wanted this jacket since moving to Seattle a couple years ago and finally pulled the trigger this season when it went on sale, and I have zero regrets!! It arrived the night before a snow storm and I couldn't be happier - it's kept me toasty in below freezing temps with a sweater underneath (or base layer + sweater for extra cold days). I love how the front zip is designed such that it's actually comfortable and warm to zip it up all the way - no need for a scarf and no awkwardness around your neck/mouth. It's very lightweight and blocks the wind well. The wind picked up today blowing snow around and I didn't feel any breeze under this coat. I also bought it because of it's packability - can't wait to take it on early season camping trips. I'm 5'9, 135 lbs and ordered the medium. I tried it on under my ski jacket, it works as a mid layer for extra cold days. I also tried it on with a bunch of layers underneath to see how much I could layer up if needed. It fits over a merino wool base layer, fleece mid and Arcteryx Atom lt hoody mid. Add this plus my Goretex ski jacket and I would be ready for anything. Without all these layers under, it still somehow looks good and not too baggy or puffy. I can also pull the cords to tighten the bottom hem against my body if I really want to trap in the heat. The dark currant color is beautiful.

I get really cold in the winter and I love to be cozy. This jacket provided both for me! Its easy to layer over or under for those extra cold days and I found it ran true to size.

    Cute but not very warm

Love the brand and fit. Is roomier in the chest than Mountain Hardwear coats, but...not as warm as you'd expect at ALL. I live in Portland, OR so it doesn't get that cold here. Coldest days in winter are around 40 degrees normally. I have found that this jacket is not that warm. It works great for cool Pacific NW mornings/nights in the very late spring, summertime, or early to mid fall. If you are looking for a mountaineering jacket, and don't plan to wear multiple warm layers underneath - this jacket is not for you.

    disappointed, not very warm.

I was looking for a super warm coat that i could wear just to do errands in, walk around town, situations where I'm not really doing much but standing around or walking. I live in Vermont where winters are generally bitingly cold (generally 10-20 degrees but often colder). This jacket disappoints severely in the warmth department, it's just not very warm. I wear a medium but the medium in this is tight in the shoulders and armpits, very annoyingly so if i wear more than one merino baselayer (which you definitely need more than one layer under this thin coat). The sleeves are a bit short. But my biggest complaint is the lack of warmth. I love Patagonia gear but I'm Very disappointed in this coat, esp. for the price and I regret not returning it when i still had the chance.

    Supa rad jacket!

Great jacket to layer with, or to wear on it's own. Super warm and lightweight. Love the fit and length. Fits true to size.

    Perfect Down Jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My brother bought this jacket as a gift for his girlfriend. He says: "You can’t go wrong with a Patagonia down jacket. This was purchased as a gift for my partner and she loved it. The sizing and fit was spot on. It keeps her warm and toasty during the cold and dry eastern Oregon winters and is breathable enough to wear on warmer spring and fall evenings."

Synthetic insulation is great and all, but I ended up going with this down puffy instead and it is SO WARM considering how packable it is. This is my go-to winter jacket for wearing to and from. It's also a camping staple, for sure. I'll definitely be getting one of Patagonia's synthetic insulation puffies in the future for hiking/snowboarding, but this one is perfect if you're just going for warmth. It has enough room to wear layers underneath, while also not making you look too much like a packaging peanut.

I am thinking of getting this jacket in feather gray but I'm worried about it getting rather dirty. Do you know how easily this jacket can be **effectively** cleaned?
    Thanks!

    Hey Kathryn,

Super easy! Throw it in the wash with some Nikwax down wash and make sure to dry it with dryer balls to reinvigorate the loft of the down. I've washed mine multiple times and it seems to do the trick. Try to wash it before the grime gets really ingrained into the fabric and you shouldn't have a problem.

    Unanswered Question

I was reading on Patagonia about this Jacket, that they revamped this style and changed it a bit. Is this the newest version of this jacket?

it says the warranty is lifetime but what does that entail? What is the return policy as well? If I have issues with the jacket, do I contact you for that?

    Best Answer

    Sarah,

Patagonia guarantees customer satisfaction for the life of the product. You can contact Patagonia directly if you run into any problems and they will work to repair the product first, and replace it if a repair isn't in the cards.

    Unanswered Question

What is the length of this Jacket in a size medium? Is a size Small shorter? (back length)

    Unanswered Question

Would you please let me know the length of this coat (measured down the back ) and is it the same length as the High Loft Hooded down sweater? I am interested in whichever one is longer :) thank you so much!

    Unanswered Question

I am usually a small to medium in shirt size, 5'3" and 125 pounds. What size do you think would be best? Thanks!

The description says this isn’t a good stand-alone coat but it does have a water resistant finish. Would this be an OK choice for walking around a city, even if it snows or rains a little bit?

this is definitely a great jacket on it's own! Especially the hooded version here is worn more as an outerwear piece than a mid layer. (will work on getting the description to be updated to be a little more accurate)
