Stow Patagonia's Down Sweater Hooded Men's Jacket inside its chest pocket on your next backpacking trip, high-elevation climb, or midwinter ski trip—just be sure to let it out regularly so its plush 800-fill Traceable Down insulation retains its soft loft over time. Patagonia's Traceable Down comes from non-live-plucked and non-force-fed geese; a fact that's been third-party-verified. To enhance its green status, Patagonia made the shell out of a recycled polyester ripstop that's light, windproof, and water-resistant thanks to a DWR finish.
Patagonia updated the Down Sweater with a more contoured fit that's longer for better coverage on cold camping trips. At a single pull, the hood cinches comfortably and securely around your head, and the hem and both cuffs help retain the down's wonderful warmth. Patagonia also added two zippered handwarmers and a zippered internal chest pocket that doubles as a stow pocket when it's time to head back home.
- An insulating layer ideal for climbing, hiking, and skiing
- 800-fill Traceable Down insulation is lightweight and compressible
- Weather-shedding shell made from recycled polyester
- Single-pull adjustable hood is quickly adjusted to combat wind
- Adjustable hem and elasticized cuffs work to lock in heat
- Jacket stows in interior chest pocket for easy packing
- Contoured fit helps reduce bulk and longer hem increases coverage
- Patagonia is dedicated to crafting sustainable outdoor gear

Highly recommend this jacket. Warm enough for 30+ degree NY winter days.

Great jacket for me - prinary use is bike commuting and around town. Got this plus the arcteryx beta sl hybrid and Im all set for any conditions. The nano and micro puffies are both pretty minima and until seeing them in person I didnt reaize just how minimal. If you want something lightweight but still very warm this is my pick.

This is actually my first down insulating layer. It's perfect for mild winter weather. Super cozy and comfortable. I love the details. And the Balkan Blue is a sweet color!

Everyone's Fav

- Weight: 125lbs
Everyone needs one of these. My entire family has one and they are extremely functional! Don't go with any other puffy!
Great purchase for my college son.

Great looking jacket, fits perfectly over a sweatshirt and doesn't look bulky.
Very warm and son especially loves the folding and packing into the pocket feature.
Not the most durable puffy
I got this as a gift and he wasn't super impressed after using it. He got a tear somehow from only wearing it in the car to and from buildings, nothing overly strenuous. The fabric catches and rips easily so you have to be careful. It's fairly warm but he said he's had warmer so he was a bit disappointed by this one (he's pretty skinny and gets cold easily). As long as you're careful and you know it's not the warmest down jacket around then you'll probably be happy with this.
Best Down Jacket!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I purchased this jacket as a gift for my brother. He already owns the Nano Puff and was looking for something warmer. He's a large in most tops and the large fits him well. This is a great jacket because it's warm and super pack-able. Great for backcountry skiing and travel!
Where the quality??
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Xxl
- Height: 6'
- Weight: 270lbs
I had seen some of the positive reviews on it before I purchased it. Very disappointed in this jacket. I have been wanting to get this for a while and got it on sale for black friday. Shipped fast. This is my first patagonia jacket. Its not warm. Anything under 40 degrees with a mild wind, you need a sweater under it. Im not a person that gets cold easy but you feel the wind cut right through the jacket. Also after the first wear, feathers have been coming out of the jacket. Patagonia is supposedly known for their quality but not on this one. Was looking for something lightweight amd warm to to go to the gym with and run errands with. My old navy vest is warmer than this jacket. For almost $300, I expected more.
Far superior to the Nanopuff
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: M
- Height: 5'10"
- Weight: 170lbs
Got this jacket to pair under an outer shell when skiing and just for general cold weather use. Best winter jacket I have ever owned. Much warmer and more breathable than the Nanopuff - wished I had just bought this in the first place. The down material goes all the way into the hood which makes a huge difference.
Warmer, more breathable than Nanopuff
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Large
- Height: 6'2"
- Weight: 200lbs
Bought this as an in-between coat for the city. I walk to work and found it to be not only warmer than my Pagatonia Nanopuff jacket but more breathable (which is great if you don't want to work up a sweat on your way to the office). Because it's down, wouldn't recommend wearing it when snow/sleet is really coming down. Surprisingly not bulky for a down coat.
Swiss Army Knife of Down Jackets
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Size Bought: small
- Height: 5'10"
- Weight: 150lbs
Due to the superior fit of the jacket and simplicity this jacket heats ya up like an efficient wood stove during cold winter months.
Great fit and function
Sitting at camp I threw this over a nano puff and mid weight wool base, toasty warm at 17F and a hefty mountain wind. Fit is perfect for me with a large. I am 6â1 @ 190lbs. I got the desert khaki and love the color.
Very warm, lightweight
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Small
- Height: 5'
- Weight: 9lbs
Have run this through the wringer over the last 6 months. I would buy again 100%. Lightweight and warm, packable, stylish. Bought it after a positive review on outdoorgearlab. Worth every penny.
Thanks for your feedback Ryan! The Down Sweater is one of my all time favorites as well!
Perfect for Packing
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: xl
- Height: 6'3"
- Weight: 220lbs
I bought this in the Spring so cannot review it for warmth. It is extremely light. Once I got the hang of it I was able to easily "pack" the coat into the pocket for use as a travel pillow or just to fit in a suitcase. That's why I bought it and I couldn't be happier. It should serve me well on a trip this fall. I have a fleece jacket from Patagonia that I have worn for about 25 years now. It goes through the wash and comes out great everytime. If this one lasts that long it will outlive me :-) I was concerned about body length and sleeve length since I usually buy talls but this XL is perfect!

Were is it made ?
Hi Gregory,
I can't find where this exact product is made. But here is a link on Patagonia's site that explains where and how they manufacture their products
Is this the latest version of the jacket or a previous season?
Hi Steve,
All of the colors are the 2019 models except for the Microgreen which is 2018!
Is this jacket combined with a Patagonia medium weight fleece going to be warmer than the Arc'teryx thorium ar hoody?
Hey Austin,
This jacket already has a higher fill of down than the Ar'teryx jacket you're comparing it to on its own. Should be warmer.
What is the recommended temperature range for wearing this hoodie all by itself?
with wind chill it can handle pretty low temperatures, but just by itself I would say no lower than 20 degrees
What Patagonia shells are compatible with this jacket since it's not an active fit? I'm looking for a weatherproof hardshell
Hey Trevor,
This jacket should fit under most any shell piece. As long as you have the correct size for both jackets.
Hey i"m 5'8" tall & about 200lb. what size would best fit me?
Probably medium, though tough to say without knowing your measurements. Chat in with one of us and we'll help you get the right size.
im 6'1 and 200 pounds, i also would like to wear a sweatshirt under it, what size would do that for me?
Probably Large, though tough to say without knowing your measurements. Chat in with one of us and we'll help you get the right size.
hi im 5'7"ish 170ish lbs and i have a 41ish chest what size would fit me
Hey, I'm 5' 8", 150, and the Small fits nicely with some room.
Hey, I'm 6'2" and 185 pounds. Wondering if the M or L would be more sufficient for me.
Hey Anthony, you'd be able to wear a large! Let me know if you have any other questions or would like help placing an order for one! You can reach me at my direct line 801.204.4547 or cojohnson@backcountry.com. Best, Connor
Can you wear a climbing helmet under the hood?
I'm 5'10, 210 lbs, 36-inch waist, broad shoulders. I usually wear Large or XL in insulated jackets or shells, and I prefer a slightly loose fit (that can be cinched at the hem). What size do you recommend? thanx!
Hal,
You're definitely right in between Large and XL. Not sure if the XL might be too loose for you, I might try a large first since this can run a touch big...
I am 5' 10" and 220lbs, 46 chest but a little big around the midsection. Should I go with XL or XXL in this jacket? Based on the sizing chart it looks like the XL would fit the chest but I'm concerned it might be snug around the torso. Should this jacket fit snug or loose?
Hey Daniel,
I recommend that you go with the XXL based on your size/measurements. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions.

I'm buying this for someone that is 6' about 175 lbs and I ordered a large in case they want to layer, is that alright or will they run into problems?
Jeanette,
It might be a touch big depending on their personal preference on fit, but it will definitely allow for layering while not being too baggy of a fit.
hello,
6 ft 1in, 195 lbs. Should I get a large or xlarge?? want to be able to wear a sweater of sweatshirt underneath. Thanks !
Armida,
I think a large might do it for you unless the sweater or sweatshirts you want to layer underneath are super bulky.
Is this jacket windproof?
Trevor,
The Down Sweater isn't designed to be fully windproof, but it does do pretty well in some fairly nasty conditions.
Sweet. Thanks! I went ahead and ordered it as it had pretty much everything I was looking for in a down jacket...can't wait to test it out
Is this jacket sized to go over a couple other layers (Fleece and soft shell jacket) or do I need to size up to get it to fit?
I'm 6ft tall and 165lbs. I wear a medium.
I'd size up to a large in you case. The best way to be sure is to take your measurements and compare them to the size chart.
I am 5'10"/185 with a 43" chest. By the sizing guide, it says I should order a large. Thoughts?
Im 5/8 185 and the mid fits like a glove... so it might be to short for u so yes the large is a good choice
My husband is 5'11, 180 lbs. He would typically wear a large but his arms are disproportionate and tend to be longer for his size. As such, he usually has to buy XL. We looked at the size chart and followed the instructions but if that were the case he would wear a small (measures at 32.5 inches). Clearly, we are doing something wrong. If you have any suggestions or recommend a size for him that would be great! Thank you.
Hi Ashley,
He probably could wear a Large if he has longer arms. Usually I seen people in his range go with medium without long arms. I am 6'4 and 205 lbs the large fits me just right.
So I'm 6'1" and 170 pounds. Should I go with a medium or a large? I don't plan on layering much beneath the jacket.
Hi Stuart
I would say a medium. I am 6'4 and 205 lbs the large fits me just right.
I'm 5'60 157lbs Chest100 what size should I get? Thanks
Hello Starry,
You should get a medium.
If you have any other concerns please feel free to chat in and we can get you taken care of.
Thanks for the review! I know I can go either way with M or L depending on how I want the jacket to fit, as an outer layer or midlayer.
