Down Sweater

While the Patagonia Boys' Down Sweater might set Junior's standard a bit high for future jackets, you can, in the very least, trust that he'll make good decisions when it comes to purchases down the road. Not only is the Down Sweater versatile enough to handle recess at school, but it's adaptive enough to be layered underneath a waterproof shell when the weekend calls for time spent at ski school.

The jacket is equipped with 600-fill down insulation, assuring ample warmth whether he's playing outside with the dog or waiting for the school bus at the end of the driveway. Additionally, the insulation is part of Patagonia's Traceable Down initiative, meaning the down is gleaned from animals that are never live-plucked or force-fed. And, not to mention, the durable polyester exterior fends off light moisture and winds alike, while the zippered hand pockets offer cozy respite for chilly digits.

  • Lightweight warmth for the trail, slopes, or recess
  • Traceable down is compressible and insulating
  • DWR protects down from heat-robbing moisture
  • Zippered hand pockets offer cozy respite
  • Drawcord hem helps seal out cold drafts
  • Patagonia is committed to producing sustainable and eco-friendly clothing

Awkward Fit

Size Bought
Medium

Bought this for my kids as they had a smaller version that was perfect. Unfortunately they grew out of them as kids do. Maybe something changed as the sizes changed but the fit just didn’t work. There aren’t any draw strings at the bottom so the jacket kind of floats open. It fits almost like a poncho. For a kid this means snow and cold air get in. Patagonia makes a great product so maybe we need to just try a different style.

I got this jacket because I loved the color and the men's version did not fit me. Tried on the boys and was so happy it fit. 10/10 would recommend trying childrens sizes if youre a smaller person and save some money!

what size did you get?

Great coat that 4yo can zipper!

Purchased this coat for my son. It’s light, but it keeps him warm and he can easily zipper it himself. A huge bonus because it’s always a sprint to get out the door in the morning!

My son loves this coat. He is 8 and wears a size medium. We live in the front range area or CO and he stays perfectly warm. As a bonus we picked it up on sale at BC for $66 in navy blue. BC is awesome and this coat will not disappoint.

Love the warmth of this jacket. Sizing is true to size, colors great- BUT this child’s jacket - as opposed to adult jacket - is not lined on the inside , so feathers poke my child and come out everywhere . Will be returning .

Great coat, but know your wearer

Coat runs small, so order up. Great coat and Viking Blue is a nice color. Very, very easy to accidentally cut the fabric. If you have a kid who is super active and better find matching duct tape for the color you buy.

My 10 year old wears a large in the boys snowshot and boys nano puff. He'll be able to wear both for another year. The down sweater, though in the same size fits like crop top. Sizing is way off.

Great Jacket

My kid is now 12,going on 13, and it’s the third one I’ve purchased for him over the years as he has grown. He just loves it. Perfect for those cool but not too cold days and very versatile.

Runs small

I ordered a large for my 12 year old son and it was very small. I am returning it for an XL. Great & warm jacket for everyday use and it's a perfect base layer to wear under his snowboarding shell jacket.

I'm a very small woman and I bought an XL based on the size chart and looking at other reviews. When I received the jacket it was HUGE! The upper arms were at least double the size of my actual arm and puffed up a lot because of that and the chest and waist area were several inches larger than the size chart claimed. My chest size is around 30 in so I bought the XL and it is definitely way too big and now I have to go exchange it for a smaller size. I am going to try on other sizes before exchanging to make sure they fit. I bought this with the intention of wearing it alone or under a waterproof shell, so this definitely didn't work for me, but if you're looking to wear it on top of many layers then an XL will probably work for you.

I bought this jacket for Oregon weather (when we don't have the rain), I wanted the kids to have quality and be able to grown into these jackets. So far they love them, it's perfect for 30'-60' cold weather. If need be they can add a 2nd layer (sweatshirt). Love the these!!!

Grandsons love them.

They love the camo look, kept them warm, and they were able to layer under it.

This item was HUGE! I'm 5'2, 105 lbs female, and did all the measurements that it told me to do for this jacket, which led me to the XXL and put me in the size 18 bracket. When I received this jacket it literally went to my knees and there was WAY too much extra fabric. I would not recommend this jacket to ANYONE.

My nephew is quite the active kid. He kills it on and off the field and loves his gear. So a Patagonia only seemed like the right choice. He has had several Patagonia jackets and his mother finds the quality better than The North Face so we keep it traditional. He's a growing boy with a 6'4" dad and 5'9" mom. Their family is in Dallas so layering is preferred and this jacket works out great for cooler mornings for practice. They also love the physical quality, stitch work and good thought Patagonia puts behind the creating and design when it comes to a better way we live.

My 12 yr old son loves this coat. He layers it with a waterproof technical shell on cold days & for skiing. It is a little wide in the body for thin kids like mine, but it is still nice.

Awesome jacket

I bought this jacket about two years ago because it was on sale at REI. However, it has turned into my go-to jacket for backpacking and camping. I have brought it on many fall/ winter trips, and it is great. Paired with a longsleeve shirt and a Gore-Tex jacket, in kept me plenty warm while sitting through an outdoor leadership course this December. With temps in the 30's and 40's, I was comfortable. However, this jacket has begun to leak a lot and the lightweight nylon exterior feels like it is just waiting to be shredded into pieces by the first tree branch it touches. This can be countered by wearing a soft or hard shell over it. Bonus: It is extremely light and compressible.

I'm a petite adult female and not very busty (5' 5", 120 lbs.). I purchased this jacket in a size XL. It's definitely a relaxed fit, which I love, so I can add more layers if I need to. You give up some warmth and quality vs. the adult version (mainly the zippers) and there isn't an inside pocket. But this has absolutely become my Go To Jacket and I've put it through the wringer. I bought to better match my ski school jacket (royal blue). I want to get one in every color. Love the price too.

Expensive.

Expensive jacket, but it will keep your little nugget warm!

My 5 year old son insists on having a “secret pocket” inside his coats (one he tried on at some point had one and now it is a requirement — lucky us, I know) — any chance this has a pocket inside?? Thank you!!
