    Dirt Roamer Jacket

Shoulder season singletrack rides usually include a fickle mix of sweating up climbs and shivering down descents. So, bridge the gap with the Patagonia Dirt Roamer Jacket for light, stretchy, and super-breathable protection against the elements on your bike when the weather's hard to pin down. Patagonia bonded a soft, comfortable polyester circular-knit backer with a nylon face, and finished it with a DWR treatment, to give you a plush fit and feel that's bolstered by water-and wind-resistance where you need it. The fixed hood has an easy, single-pull adjustment for good peripheral vision as the weather changes, and can be put away via a loop and hook that rolls it and stows. Speaking of stowing, this jacket's compact design allows it to be packed down and stashed in the rear pocket for easy storage when the weather lets up.

    • Lightweight, stretchy, and breathable mountain biking jacket
    • Poly construction moves with you and sheds light precipitation
    • Slim fit keeps your range of motion open
    • Hood is adjustable with a single-pull cord for easy customization
    • Multiple pockets stash small items and even the jacket itself
    • Item #PAT02SR

    My new favorite cycling jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When I first saw this jacket, I seriously thought it was just another shell for everyday use. It certainly doesn't look like a classic cycling jacket. I'm pleased to say that it absolutely is!
This jacket was instantly my favorite cycling jacket that I'd worn. What I've found with cycling jackets is that they tend to either be too heavy or way too light for the conditions I want to ride in. Because of the lightweight design of this jacket, it feels like a lightweight jacket when you wear it, but I was super grateful that it kept me as warm as some of the heavier cycling jackets I've worn in the past. I am primarily a road cyclist, so having a jacket with a hood was a slight concern for me because of drag, but I ended up tucking the hood into my collar and it was no trouble at all. However, if it had been raining, it would be really handy to have around. Even though this jacket is not designed to be "aero" by any means, I did not feel like it was particularly draggy either. It conveniently packed up into the pocket and was easy to store.

All in all I loved this jacket. It's one that I plan to use again once the seasons turn cold or any time that there's a threat of rain. It was comfortable, warm, light and easy to use. Who could ask for more in a cycling jacket?

Perfect On and Off the Bike

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It's awesome that Patagonia made a bike specific rain coat. I've been wearing their jackets for years. So, now that I can wear one on bike, I'm set for every occasion. The cut is perfect so that you get any bunching or constriction when you're in the riding position. The material is super breathable since it's not fully waterproof so you don't feel like you're wearing a trash bag, but it still sheds water nicely. I got a size large so I can wear it with thicker layers off the bike, but I would get a medium if I were to wear it solely on the bike. I'm 5'10" 170lbs with broad shoulders.

    Ballin' Breathability

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Great fit, look, and breathability. The DWR coating helps repel light rain, which we definitely experienced on our weekend biking trip. The perfect jacket for hiking or biking, or any activity where you know you'll be exerting yourself but may encounter wind, rain, or varying conditions.

Patagonia Quality Comes to the Trail

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Patagonia has long been the go-to for sustainably made performance apparel in the outdoor world and they've finally made an entrance into cycling. The Dirt Roamer is the perfect jacket to keep stashed away - ready to make an appearance when conditions turn less than ideal. I found it breathable enough to keep on when pedaling in cooler temps without feeling clammy or overheating.

The fit is a bit larger than expected, but as this is a piece of cycling apparel the end goal is a trim fit with minimal fabric to flap around in the wind. Size down from your normal Patagonia size (MD -> SM for me).

    Love it!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This jacket has a great balance of water resistance and breathability. It sits in between the rain jacket line (waterproof) and the Airshed jacket (extremely breathable) in these categories. The fit is great and it's the perfect lightweight jacket for mountain biking.

    Cycling specific jacket from Patagonia

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

We all know and love the products from Patagonia and the dirt roamer jacket has just advanced to one of my favorite jackets for riding. When 1st trying the jacket on I was instantly impressed with the cycling specific fit of the jacket. A lot of jackets out there try to maintain arm mobility by creating excess room in the biceps and shoulders creating extra fabric that tends to flap in the breeze - these are close to the body but the pattern still allows for plenty of mobility on the bike. So they nailed it on this front for me.
Hood: Fits over my Smith Sessions helmet really well. Patagonia made the face open snug to block out wind and weather as well as a hood flap - but it is comfortable thanks to some elastic hemming that takes up any slack or gives you some stretch for those on trail look backs.
Sizing: I have been riding in the medium jacket which allows for a light jersey underneath but not a lot of room for any additional insulators if that is what you are riding in. So if you do plan to ride this with more layer or want a casual fit go a size up or follow your t-shirt size. My measurements are about 41 or 42 inches around the chest, 33 inches around the narrow part of my waist for reference. If you are using the jacket for just riding I am really happy with the medium. the arms are plenty long enough as well.

    Love:
    -Cycling specific fit
-small details at wrists to provide extra cover to hands and seal out weather
-well thought out and good fitting hood
    -lightweight, quiet and breathable fabric
-DWR coating worked really well during light rain and trail splashes

    Want:
-small chest or side pocket for storing snack or having the phone camera ready while doing reviews
-elastic at the bottom hem or 2-way zipper to accommodate for larger derrieres :)
