    Go beyond the trail.

Patagonia knew you were looking for a pair of shorts you could wear before, during, and after trail riding without having to bring a change of clothes, so they went and created the Men's Dirt Craft Bike Shorts.

Built with a two-layer design, the shell is cut slimmer than your standard mountain baggies, made with a stretchy blend and finished with a water-repellent DWR coating for comfort and protection. The adjustable hook-and-loop waistband, articulated knees, and versatile 11.5in inseam all serve to better adapt to off-the-bike activities. When you're on the bike, the outer layer pairs with a stretchy, moisture-wicking inner liner, complete with a cushy three-layer chamois and mesh paneling to keep you comfortable during long days on the trails.

    • Versatile two-layer short for days on the trail
    • Water-resistant, quick-drying shell holds up to abuse
    • Breathable, stretchy liner keeps you moving in comfort
    • Built-in chamois pad absorbs harsh chatter on the trail
    • Adjustable waistband customizes the fit
    • Multiple pockets bring along gloves, tools, and snacks
    • Item #PAT02BY

    Great shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am 5 11 and 190 lbs with tree trunk legs. I got a size 34. They are a bit snug in the thighs but the waist is spot on. I love the stretchy fabric and the pockets are great. When im riding I dont notice them rubbing or making strange noises. I recommend these shorts for any activity, not just biking!

Nice short, liner not so much

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like the short. If you live in a hot climate, forget about using the liner because it will leave you chafed. I see that patagonia came out with another short that doesn't come with a liner but now they sell just a liner. My guess is that it is probably a better quality.

    Great Comfort Minimalist Short combo

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

5'9" / 195 and the 34" fit well and true to size. The inner line / chamois pad and very comfortable and mesh panels breathe well and the short itself is very light weight. When riding it doesn't get caught up on knee and overall you barely notice it is there. My other favorite short was a Fox Attack (also light weight), but now think these will be my go to's.

    Solid bike shorts!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these as a gift and have received great feedback! My friend said that they fit super well, were not too bulky, and looked great! He is an avid mountain biker, rides 3-5 times a week and is really excited to have these shorts .

Used to just ride in roadbike bibs and board shorts. These are worth the money. Just feels better on the bike (XC, enduro). Tries and tested here in NorCal spring and summer so far.

    Great Bike Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got the first version of these last season. Loved the shorts for their simplicity, but the chamois didn't fit very well so I ended up just using my other chamois with the shorts. I hear they got a fit update on the outer and liner shorts this season, and tore mine up a bit crashing on the DH bike last year, so I was stoked to get a pair of these new ones. I definitely agree with the rumors of improved fit. Most notable, the waist band got more micro-adjustments to get that perfect, and the chamois has more rise in the rear.

    Dreamy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was riding in other brand liners and prana mojo shorts (great shorts, not knocking them) before switching to this pair. Woah what a difference it has made. The fit on the shorts is spot on, with a little stretch in the material to move with you while pedaling so they never slide down. The liners are super breathable and have a generous chamois to keep you on your saddle longer. 10/10 would recommend.

    Dirt Craft Shorts Review

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Of course, it takes Patagonia getting into the game to get some really stellar mountain bike shorts that fit and perform the way they ought to. I have a pair of the first generation Dirt Craft shorts without the liner; they are top-notch, but the addition of a (really nice) chamois takes this new version up a level and makes the admittedly premium price well worth it. The fit is great—dialed for good coverage and motion without looking wide or baggy, with details like a slanted cut that covers your knees while leaving the back free of extra fabric. The side zip pocket is generous and the hook-and-ladder waist is much better than Velcro in terms of finding and keeping your fit. The only complaints I have are that the hand pockets are a little shallow and I wish the waist adjustment didn't have any elastic, because elastic eventually does wear out and these look like they could last forever otherwise. I guess I'd also ask for an identical zip pocket on the other side if you really wanted to make them perfect. But these are truly awesome shorts and I recommend them without reservation.

    Cool and comfortable

I got these for my boyfriend recently, and he loves them! They fit well, seem durable, and are easy to move in. The included chamois is pretty big, but it's comfortable.

    Quality!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Patagonia Dirt Craft shorts are awesome! They are true to size and fit great. The length isn't super long and the shorts themselves aren't to baggy. Awesome buy!

    Patagonia, please keep making!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I seriously threw all my other cycling shorts and liners away and bought multiple pairs of these. They are amazing. Breathable, comfortable and just all around actually comfortable.
I need Patagonia to invest more into this line because I will continue buying. I really wish they had a winter lineup for us cold weather riders.

    Had to buy another pair

My dad loves these shorts so much I had to get him another pair. The fit is true, the quality is superb of both the shorts and the chamois, and they look freakin' sweet.

    Awesome shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Just like everyone else, I LOVE these shorts. The chamois is super comfy and the shorts are a great material.

My favorite part is that you can wear them casually and they don't look ridiculous like a lot of bike shorts do. They are a little longer than a casual short but not too wild.

Long - Not Crazy Long but Long

Patagonia, easily my favorite outdoor brand due to the standards and mission of the company, enters the bike space with a killer MTB short.

I got the green with the yellow zippers and belt, and the main color is subtle like a seabreeze, while the contrast pops vividly. Now at least I know I look the part, amiright?

Personally, not a huge fan of baggy, or super long shorts. While these are baggy and I knew it, I do feel they're marketed towards before-during-after ride. I would not wear these to work, nor would I wear them to a bar or dinner. 11.5 inch inseams, even for this 6 foot dude, are a bit too long. They still scream, "I mountain biked today, I ride, I'm gnar!"

I really want somebody to nail the non-spandex, non-baggy approach to breathable cycling gear that I can wear around town before or after without looking like I'm an advertisement for the sport. If anybody knows a style/brand where I can find that, please gimme a shout!

Awesome Trail Shorts - Look Back At It

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I'm 5'11" and 178lbs. Typically a 32 x 32 in most jeans. I got the medium's in these and they fit great. They're definitely on the more athletic fitting of bike shorts, but they are super comfy and breath well. Really happy wearing them when trail riding and fit decently with the Leatt Airflex Pro kneepads underneath!

    Pros:
    - I love the fit. They're non baggy baggies and fit right above the knee. Athletic fit is what I'd call it.
    - The material is stretchy and breathes well. I'd also be pretty happy wearing these hiking and for casual use. I haven't had many diggers with these yet, but the material seems relatively durable. That said, if you're planning on doing bike park laps or free ride stuff, I might consider something a bit more hefty.
    - The liner is pretty spot on for being a first venture to the bike apparel realm. Comfy and keeps you happy on the saddle.
    - Though I don't really need to tighten the shorts up at all, the build in belt is pretty slick.
    - Pocket situation is fine, two normal pockets and one zippered.

    Cons:
    - Only issue I've really had with them is stretching my legs out sideways - it feels just a little tight or something. Not a huge issue, only really noticeable when you're standing up to really hammer and then get back up over the saddle.

If you're in the market for high performance trail short that you can wear off the bike and not look like a bike dork, these are the shorts for you! Photo was taken on the Wasatch Crest overlooking the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. If you have any questions on these for sizing or anything else, don't hesitate giving a shout to either my email cojohnson@backcountry.com or direct line 801.204.4547 and I'd be happy to help!
