    On-trail or off.

If you're looking for a pair of shorts you can wear before, during, and after your casual trail ride without having to bring a change of clothes or risk feeling uncomfortable, Patagonia understands, and that's why it created the Dirt Craft Bike Shorts. Created with a 2-layer design, the outer shorts are cut slimmer than your standard mountain baggies from a stretchy spandex/nylon blend and finished with a water-repellent DWR coating.

An adjustable waistband, articulated knee, and versatile 11.5in inseam all serve to better adapt the shorts to off-the-bike activities. When you're on the bike, the outer layer pairs with a stretchy, moisture-wicking inner liner, complete with a cushy, 3-layer chamois and mesh paneling to keep you comfortable during long days on the trails.

So Patagonia finally got it right. A comfortable, basic looking bike short that performs. They also managed to create one of the best shammy's i have used to date. So far the best shorts for longer days in the saddle. The material is really durable for the amount of brethability which is another difficult part of designing a bike short. Finally sizing. Now Patagonia is a little wild on sizing but i would say they are true. I am 6 foot 185 pounds in a 34 waist . I am a huge biker and love helping people build clothing kits, bikes, or help in any way to keep you rolling. If anyone has questions feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email.

I wore these all last season. It felt different switching from a road bib but once i got used to that it was way easier to move about on the bike and they look pretty good for food/beer after your ride

I've taken a few tumbles and they still come out of the wash looking like new.

There's a big difference between the size of the liner and the short. Once you have them on you dont notice either any more.

I had all but given up on baggies. Typically what happens is I get a new set of baggies and after one ride throw the liner away because it is total junk. While I am still left with a reasonably nice pair of shorts they are not riding shorts. I waited a while to write this to make sure I really gave these a good shake. The liner is amazing. As comfortable as my best bibs. I even wore these on few long trainer sessions to really check them out. I figured the trainer is the best test since I tend to not stand and if there were any trouble spots they would show here. They never did. With the current run of warm weather here in the Wasatch i have also taken them on a number of road (one over 3 hours) and dirt rides. Again no complaints as to the way they ride. Super comfy the whole way.

A few little things. The front pockets are comically shallow. My phone sticks out and there is no way I would carry anything in them while riding, or even just walking around for that matter. The side zipper pocket is really nice though. Next, and this is more a comment about baggies in general. They are pretty hot. It is early spring here so it is not a problem but I don't think I will be doing much riding with them come summer. I guess if I rode charlifts at resorts they would be fine for that. Most of my riding is of the long XC type so I suppose I am not really the target buyer for these anyway. That said these are really nicely made and they are super comfortable.

    Patagonia MTB shorts.

The only "bad" thing or issue I can say about Patagonia's first foray into MTB shorts is that they made to few and sold out before the season even started! I purchase both colors and they are my go to shorts everyday. I have a lot of expensive riding shorts, brands like Kitsbow, TLD, Gore, Club Ride etc. and none of them are as comfortable as the Pats. The only rub and hopefully next years shorts this will be corrected is that they need to make the two front hand pockets deeper, besides that, my go to pieces for the 2016 summer!

Patagonia lives up to high expectations

I've owned a lot of Paragonia apparel over the years and have had only great things to say. I figured that they would live up to their own standards with this baggy and I was right. The fit is great, lots of baggies are too loose and fall down/catch on the seat. These keep it tight and fit like they should, and stay where they should. Nicely surprised by the chamois too, it's right in line with all the big players in cycling apparel. They run true to size, as in I can wear a small and don't feel like they are made for a large. Patagonia's first foray in to cycling apparel is dialed 👌👌

      Finally in the bike business!

Killer Shorts! Best chamois I have used in a baggy. As for sizing I can wear a small or medium but due to my power booty, my wife says the medium looks better on me in public... The simple adjustable waist band helps keep them in place and from sagging and snagging on the seat when rallying. Dirt Craft nailed it! What's next?

I don't have much of a butt and depend often on a belt. So Baggie Mtb shorts often have too much material in the rear for my comfort while riding. These shorts didnt slide and the small clips inside held the liner and the shorts together.

I've been riding these shorts this week here in Bend with the warmer weather. I was excited to see how Patagonia would support cycling but naturally a bit hesitant to be so hopeful with their first endeavor. After this week of riding a variety of trails, I am stoked on the liner which is especially comfortable and the short was also not a let down. I really get frustrated with snagging and ultra stretchy material that sticks to anything on my bike. These baggies haven't snagged at all and there are no funny sounds while pedaling. They stay quiet! Sizing- Ive been riding a medium and with the new belt they fit great and firmly. Not too long or too Baggie. I'm 5'6 and a 31 waist. The material- I had a good fall and no tears. The black is a good black, not too faded or shiny. I look forward to more colors.

      PRO-

Shell- The shorts continue to look tip top after about 320 miles and many wash cycles, including creek washes. They have stretched the slightest bit, but I wouldn’t recommend ‘buying small'. The fit is really great, huge props for Patagonia’s first dive into a MTB short. Without being too baggy they have plenty of room for movement in the legs and can go with our without kneepads, I always go without. On a few occasions there was a snag on the tip of the saddle, but that was just one or two times. I really like the fact that they have classic front pockets, allowing me to easily transition from high-country ride to tailgate beers. The zippered pocket is well positioned on the left so whatever is in there won’t ride on your thigh. The belt loops are something I’ve never thought of on a cycling short but were nice and I found myself stashing my gloves in those pockets for the last 30 minutes or so of the ride. I have the size 32 and might be better suited in a 30 but these will continue to get the job done. The zipper fly is a quality touch over hook & loop closure which tends to wear out over time.

The liner- Wow. I must say Patagonia nailed it on the first try. It's very light and breathable, more-so than any other I’ve ridden in. The chamois is really high quality, it’s far from a “it’ll due”. In fact, I want to buy a few extra’s, chamois only for multi-day trips. There was no chafing and not too long, wide or droopy. As with most shorts I didn’t loop the liner into the shell because I’ve never found a benefit on the bike and it just takes longer to strip down after the ride. With that, I liked that the loops on the shell were so minimal and I did use them to hang-dry on a long weekend in Stanley, Idaho.

CON- As previously mentioned, they stretched a bit perhaps but not much. I like the color, but it also shows dirt quicker than a dark short. With a baggy I like to wear them 2-3 rides before washing, while I swap the liner after each ride. With these I’m hesitant to wear them more than once, even on a mellow ride.

Overall: Very good short and proper entry into the MTB world

Just received them but I can already tell they will be my go-to shorts. Best quality of any bike shorts I've ever owned. Fit is great, not too baggy the way some Mtb shorts can be.

I was stoked to see Patagonia create a mountain bike baggie. These shorts are super durable and fit great. Shorts are a comfortable loose fit, but don't get hung up on the saddle. Waist adjustment is easy and provides range of adjustability. The fabric is light and breathable. The liner and chamois are excellent quality. Great for all day XC or free riding. My go to baggie short for the season.

      Great Shorts!

I was stoked to see that Patagonia was getting into MTB clothing, and these do not disappoint. Chamois is very comfortable, and the liner is very breathable. The outer baggie has a nice cut, and convenient pockets.

They run true to size, but if anything a tad big. I'm generally always right on the fence between M and L, and went with a L this time and just a tiny bit big on me.

Get a pair, you will be pleased.

      great MTB short

This is a great pair of mountain bike shorts, I got a chance to ride in them all last summer and have been really pleased with them. The fit is awesome, not too xc, not too baggy - hits just a touch above the knee and is loose enough to be comfortable, but slim enough to stay out of the way on long rides. The fabric of the outer short is a super nice stretch nylon that holds up well and has some good stretch to it. But the inner short is what really sets this short apart from others -- the chamois is the best I've seen in a pair of baggies, and the liner fits well and stays cool with lighter mesh panels incorporated.
Been waiting years for Patagonia to offer bike short, and couldn't be more psyched with what we've got here!
