Patagonia designed the Convertible Fly Fishing Vest to eliminate the hard decisions in life. You know, because there's nothing more pressing on your mind than choosing between a vest and a pack for your next fishing trip. Or, if there is, at least this choice can be easy, because you can wear the vest as a vest with an airy mesh back keeping you cool, or detach the front half at the shoulders and waist and attach it to compatible Patagonia fishing packs. This move gives you backpack-size storage with the convenience of vest pockets keeping all of your accessories right where you need them while you wade. Extra attachment points like the utility keeper and rod holder allow you to access everything at the drop of a hat—which hopefully won't literally happen on the river.

    • Convertible vest for fishing with or without a pack
    • Full mesh back is supremely breathable
    • Detachable front is compatible with Patagonia fishing packs
    • Hypalon keeper ensures your nippers and tools are accessible
    • Vertical pocket configuration is easy to use
    • Item #PAT02HB

    Great Vest

I got two of these as Christmas Gifts (one for my dad and one for my nephew) as they are big fishermen in the Southeast. They both love the lightweight feel, as it can get pretty hot in the summertime. Also, the functionality of the storage seems to be dialed from their opinion.

      Thoughtful Design.

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'3"
      • Weight: 110lbs

I bought this for a relative, and this is what they had to say:

I love this little vest, emphasis on the little. It's just the right size for shoving into the top of my backpack so once I've set up camp I can toss this little guy on and go throw some lures. With the mesh back I still get a nice breeze too, which is great after a long haul up the mountain. On those short day hikes it also attaches to the shoulder straps on my bag. Now I can have my hydration and snacks and all my fishing tackle to boot!

      Great Vest

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 6'2"
      • Weight: 185lbs

This was my first new fly vest after using my dads old one for years. It honestly doesn't feel like I'm wearing anything, and it doesn't move at all when bending over even if the straps aren't at their tightest. I also purchased one of the backpacks this could clip on to, which is a feature I never thought I'd be utilizing, but I found it to be convenient . It's a great vest for a great price and I couldn't recommend it enough!

      Best vest I've used!!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I've owned everything from Filson, Simms, vests, waist packs, etc. and the Patagonia vest takes the cake. It has a "slim" feel that don'r encumber the fisherman. The vertical box holders don't scrub your forearms and it doesn't have "too much", it just has whats required for a great day of fishing.
