    A step above the rest.

As its name suggests, the Patagonia Men's Better Sweater Fleece Jacket is no ordinary sweater. Equal parts technical and urban-friendly, the Better Sweater is constructed with a sweater-knit fleece that provides cozy warmth and wicks away moisture, so you're able to to take to to the hills or the city. Additionally, the bluesign approved fleece material is dyed with a low-impact process that ultimately reduces the use of dye stuffs, energy, and water. Not to mention, the stitching is Fair Trade Certified, so you can feel good about feeling, well, good. The raglan sleeves provide unimpeded mobility, and the flatlock seams assure chafe-free comfort. A bevvy of pockets keeps all of your necessities close at hand, and the stand-up collar doubles down on your protection when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

    A casual classic!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 174lbs

I wear this sweater straight from the ski hill to apres. Warm and classy on the more casual side but works great for hiking or skiing. I wear a medium but could have also gone with the large, I like my cloths a little on the tighter side and this seems to run just a hair large.

patagonia better sweater xl kind of sm?

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: xl
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 220lbs

bought the better sweater in XL, fits kind of tight. all other XL fit me, returned it.
I bought a down sweater a few years ago in XL, I kept it but it also fits kind of tight. Does Patagonia sizes run small?

    Different fit than other Patagonia

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 170lbs

So as a shorter/stockier guy, Patagonia products have often not been a good fit for me. Where I might need a size "S" length for sleeves or body length, I'll usually need size "M" to fit properly in the chest and/or waist area. This better sweater actually fits great in a size "S" all the way around. I tried the M first, assuming i'd need it, but the M ran pretty large by my measure, and was a little baggy around waist and chest. S was a perfect fit for me. For thinner guys, definitely consider sizing down compared to other Patagonia products. Apart from that, the quality and comfort are what you'd expect from Patagonia and I love that it's something I can wear to the office just as comfortably as in base camp. Only complaint is that the ladies' version has a sleeve pocket whereas the men's version has a napoleon pocket. I actually prefer the functionality of a sleeve pocket over a napoleon pocket, but not a huge deal and definitely not a deterrent to owning it for me.

    Stylish, But Had to Return

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 215lbs

This is a terrific fleece sweater from Patagonia that is stylish, comfortable and warm. I purchased the women's version for me and thinking my boyfriend might like one, purchased a men's large as he is 6'2'', 215 lbs and has broad shoulders from lifting and triathlon. Unfortunately, he found the fit of the (regular) Better Sweater too boxy around his torso, even while trying it on with a t-shirt, so I suspect he would prefer the more form-fitting (Performance) Better Sweater jacket instead. This still looked great, so if you like a more loose fit for layering, I recommend this.

    Nice and Warm!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I wore this jacket in temps ranging from the low 60s to the high 30's, and i never felt too warm or cold. It also looks great with with jeans or work out clothes. I'm 5'6" 160lbs, and the SM fits almost perfectly. I own other patagonia jackets so i'm confident this one will last a long time.

    stylish and warm

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

My wife is the ultimate critic when i comes to clothes and she loves it. Comfortable and warm as well. Highly recommend

    Go-To Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

It's no wonder you see many people sporting these; they're great. They keep you warm and are super stylish. Really happy with this purchase!

    Love This!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

My go-to sweater when the weather is chilly/cold outside. Plus, I always get compliments on it! I highly recommend getting yourself one of these.

    Quality!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

The classic Patagonia Better Sweater can't be beat. Quality material, great fit, awesome to wear on it's own or as under another jacket on colder mornings.

    Would highly recommend!

    great sweater

feels and looks great! Thank you back country for great customer service. This isn't a slim fit but it does look nice and true to size.

    Perfect Sweater

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 160lbs

The Patagonia Better Sweater is the on of the best tops I own. The fit is excellent and true to size. I can wear this in the fall as my outer layer. I will wear it to work and not feel over or under dressed. Did I mention it's the perfect layer for my ski days? I'll probably buy a few other colors and put them in the rotation.

    A pretty jazzy sweater

Gave this as a gift for Christmas for a family member and all he talks about with me is how much he loves this jacket. Says its looks good and has a good feel to it. Very rarely takes it off because he likes it.

      Another great piece from Patagonia

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 185lbs

My husband ordered this to have another piece in his layering arsenal now that we live in blustery Vermont. Typical (great) Patagonia quality, and a great color. The fit is long-ish, and slim.

Product should be renamed Best Sweater

      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: small
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 170lbs

I've had mine for years. I've put it through the wringer and have worn it a lot. It's warm, stylish, and is built to last. What more could you want? Especially from a great company like Patagonia. Runs big.

      Unanswered Question

I am a woman, 5' 7" and weight 158. I am trying to decide what size to buy in a unisex fleece jacket -- medium or small. What would you suggest?

I'd like to buy this for my husband, but, concerned about the sizing.
He is 6'4 and 240 (little padding in the mid section).
He's usually an XL (tall) in jackets/fleece.
      Any thoughts on sizing?

      Thank you!

      Hey Ginger!

So I would say this runs a bit small. So If your husband normally wears a XL, I would step up to the next size. If this is something that you are nervous about, many customer will order two sizes and return what does not work. ( Since we have free exchanges.. within the lower 48 states that is hehe)
