You may not wear anything else this summer.

Stuff your towel and an exceptionally bad book in your backpack and head to the beach. Or go for a run. Or get in a quick seaside free-climbing session. Or, actually, do just about anything else you can think of in the Patagonia Women's Baggies Board Shorts. The Baggies have been around for as long as Patagonia has, and with the all-purpose function of a DWR-coated nylon, elastic drawstring waist, and mesh hand pockets, they don't show any signs that they'll be going away any time soon.

    • Durable, comfortable, and versatile summer favorite
    • Nylon with DWR-coating keeps up with adventures

    Go to summer shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'0"
    • Weight: 120lbs

I absolutely love these shorts. I wear them to work, out to dinner, to the beach, on rafting trips, camping, and just about anything under the sun. Not only to they fit great, but they hold their own. I have put these through the ringer all summer on rafting trips and the shorts still look and feel brand new. 10/10 would reccomend to everyone.

Do These Even Need My Praise?

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

With 110 reviews and an average rating of 4.6, one begs to question: do these even need my (stellar) review? Probably not. But, I love them (quite literally) to pieces. My OG pair was handed down to me from my mother and I instantly fell in love. I wore them until they were in tatters and proceeded to purchase a brand new pair. I have since bought two more. I wear them backpacking, swimming, around town, and even Spring skiing (haha). They are comfortable and practical, the colors are fun, and they dry in the blink of an eye. Bonus: the pockets are very large for a pair of women's shorts. However, I would not say that they are the most attractive shorts. I have tried the Barely Baggies, which seem more flattering, but was not impressed. I'm sticking with the originals.

    The classics

I bought these for my friend who had to head back to school as a departing gift. So far she says she has used them for hiking and swimming as well day-today hanging!

    Wow, These Are Awesome

These are awesome!--my first response when I tried these on and I've continued to say "wow" ever since; just love the fit (not your generic elastic waist boxer-style shorts). First, yes this has a slightly more fitted/snug waist but falls right into place when on; you'll notice that's why they look so great on, feel so great on, and stay in place--because Patagonia snuck a nice contoured fit into this "baggie" short. Photo doesn't do it justice. Next, the fabric is superb too--quick drying, light, tough--I use for hiking, kicking back on a summer day, beach or whatever. Good investment. Thanks for all the color/pattern options along with a few different inseam lengths to choose from (brouse through the different "baggies" offerings--choosing which one is the real dilemma).

    high waisted wonder!

These are a great alternative to the barely baggie if you are looking for a little more coverage. I love my barely baggies... dont get me wrong. like.. i love them. BUT every once in a while it's nice to bring it back and rock the original baggies. I am a person with hips... so although a little trying to get on... once they are on.. .THEY ARE PERFECT. they stay put... they don't ride up like the barely baggies can. these are a person with hips best and worst friend. Best because they fit the body really well. worst because like a previous reviewer stated... they are a little tough to get on and off. but i choose to make it a positive of your shorts not falling off rather than a negative. i really do love these. i usually buy size small in Patagonia and these fit perfectly!

    mer

i generally LOVE all patagonia and they usually fit me awesome. these do fit when ive finally got them on, but they are not pleasant to get on. I have bigger hips and the elastic in these shorts were sewn with a straight stitch making it useless. They dry fast and are great for a day on the water, just not great to get on and off, especially when wet

I've said it once, and I'll say it again

BEST ADVENTURE SHORTS. Recently wore my new pair on a backpacking trip in the Winds, and I love them as much as my 10 year old pair. My old pair has been my trusty companion and covered my a** through all kinds of adventure and mishap in the Northwest and Mountain West and around the world. From hiking and backpacking to canoe trips and hanging out after biking in the desert, these puppies have been my go-to. I finally decided I needed more than one pair of tough/durable adventure shorts, but my originals are still going strong. These are quick drying and versatile. I didn't notice a huge difference in fit between the shorts I recently purchased and my pair from 10 years ago. I am a fairly athletic build with not very curvy hips, and the small fits beautifully (I tried going to a size M and they felt enormous).

Love the shorts, sizing is off

      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'6"
      • Weight: 165lbs

First, I am so glad I bought two pairs of these shorts. Love the colors and patterns and wish I got more. However, after knowing Patagonia pants can sometimes run small, I read multiple reviews to see how I should size. I decided to go with a Medium, which is my normal size based on reviews saying how baggie they were. The size chart said a medium was for size 8 & 10 - I wear a size 8, so figured even if I went up a size to a 10, that would still be a medium. Wrong. Technically, they fit. I can get them up and around my butt and the legs are a little loose, but don’t think they will remain comfortable for hours of hiking. The waistband cinches so tightly, it creates muffin top, which who wants to worry about when you’re out in the woods. I am exchanging for a large (which thankfully, Back Country was so awesome about and handled quickly!)

      NICE

Just throwing this out there... Gunna go right ahead and move into these shorts for the summer. Just joined the baggies club and I plan to renew my membership in the future :)

      Patagonia Baggies

If you have never owned a pair of these shorts, you are missing out. I have tried the barely baggies out the past few years, but these ones are still my classic go-to for summer adventures. They are lightweight, dry quick, and can be used for a variety of activities. I would kayak, SUP, raft, hike, or bike around town in these. They are higher waisted, and a baggier fit for sure, which is what I like about them... I don't like to be active in tiny shorts. If you want a similar quick-dry board short with a mid-rise and shorter cut, try the barely baggies, they are great too!

        Classic

        • Height: 5'9"

You just can't go wrong with a pair of baggies. Super versatile - they can be worn athletically and also as a board short as they dry so fast. Such a timeless piece!

        Runs Lg

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Fit: Runs large
        • Size Bought: Small

I like everything about these shorts but I had to return them for a smaller size because as the name implies, they are baggy! If it weren't for the bagginess in the back and the flaring at the sides I would've been fine with the smalls... But I went for xs instead.

        Good but Poofy

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Small
        • Height: 5'3"
        • Weight: 130lbs

I do like these, but now that I have my own pair, I am a little surprised at how much folks rave about them. I found the fit to be a little poofy in the front on me, and the fabric was more stiff than I would prefer...but I kept them because they dry quickly, which I needed for some tropical hiking/swimming adventures.

        They can do anything.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'9"
        • Weight: 160lbs

I bought these shorts after reading many reviews as well as following a few people on Instagram who hiked the entire AT in a single pair of Patagonia Baggies. As a 5'9" woman with big thighs and quads, I am constantly looking for shorts that fit well and don't look or feel too tight. These were the ticket - I bought a size medium - and I would actually recommend them to women of all shapes and sizes. They are tight to get over my butt, but once they are, they fit super well and are already my favorite pair of shorts. I have worn them mountain biking (before I got some MTB shorts), hiking, swimming, camping, to bum around town, etc. and I LOVE them. They seem sturdy, they dry out really fast, and they are incredibly comfortable! I only wish they had a little zip pocket - but otherwise, best pair of shorts I own.

        Just great shorts

My old baggies finally died after 10+ years. I had to get more. No other shorts could replace these.

        Durable Shorts for Any Activity

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: Runs large
        • Size Bought: M
        • Height: 5'8"
        • Weight: 160lbs

I've put these shorts through the wringer with a number of different activities, from walking the dog around the city, to hiking and swimming, to even biking around. They're super comfy and really great for everything you put them through.

        Not my favorite

        • Height: 5'10"

I loooove Patagonia but I feel like their sizing is hit or miss with my body size. I am 5'10", 145 lb, long legs/arms, average torso (usual sizes: Carhartt 4 long, Prana 4, American Eagle 2/4, Patagonia 6). I ordered these in M and while the waist was comfortably snug, they were super weird on my legs. Billowy and just not cut for me - not sure if my legs were too skinny (they aren't that small...?) or what but I think I will try the Barely Baggies because I really wanted these to work.
