    Ready to ride.

Patagonia designed the Atom Sling Bag with a single strap and teardrop shape that stays put whether you're hiking to a lake or commuting to class. This simple design enables the bag to be accessed without having to take it off—just spin it around to your chest and you can take whatever you need from the main compartment. Patagonia also added 3D spacer mesh to keep shoulder strap and back panel comfortable and breathable. The Atom's recycled polyester is strong and light, and its DWR coating helps keep gear dry in the face of light rainfall.

    • Small sling pack grips your back like a climber on granite
    • 8-liter capacity suitable for quick jaunts around town
    • Soft-lined tablet sleeve and smartphone pocket
    • Padded shoulder strap and back panel for breathable ventilation
    • Item #PAT023H

    Incredible! 10/10!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is an incredible "little" bag. I was not expecting much when I ordered it, but it has become my new go to! I'm seriously considering ordering it in other colors. It's great as an everyday bag or day pack when hiking. For reference, it may be small, but it can hold a 64oz hydro flask and still have plenty of room for other items - WITHOUT cramming or feeling overstuffed. The quality of this bag is exceptional and I feel like it will last a long time. I love that you can clip and strap things to the outside of the bag too, which is perfect for hiking. It's extremely convenient to have access to my inside items without having to take the bag off. While the bag does not claim to be waterproof, I've been caught in light-moderate rain with it and everything inside has stayed dry.

I cannot rave about this bag enough. If you're on the fence, definitely order!

    Great for air travelling

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I use this mostly for traveling, this fits all I need for the airplane, passport, boarding passes, a pair of headphones, a small book, keys, etc.

As others mentioned, the feature to pull it in front of you and open it is really nice. The materials are also great quality.

    Utility wins the day!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have only one pocket in my ski pants, and I needed storage after leaving the shell in the car for late season skiing. The small front pocket holds the scan-able lift pass (which does not like sharing pockets with credit cards) and the back pocket area carries those cards, a phone, a few beverages and room for a layer as the temps climb. It also works well on the chair lift. It rests above the chair back, and the pack easily slides around to the front with the pockets facing up.

    Utility wins the day!

    Fits TOO much

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm certain that this is more than 8L. I use this bag for every activity, but primary it's my gym bag and home to my climbing shoes. If you need a magical bag to carry all the things, aka chalk bag, shoes, water, wallet, keys, change of clothes, and snacks, then this is the bag for you.

    Best travel pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is the best small pack you can buy for traveling. Fits an incredible amount of stuff for the size, convenient pockets, and nice outside straps for jackets, etc. Easy to swing around and carry in front of you if you're wary of pickpockets. Fits nicely inside of a larger pack or suitcase.

    Ace Backpack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bigger than I expected. I can fit lots of items in mine, and the bag doesn’t feel heavy. I bought the white and teal, love the pouches and color combo, especially for daytime activities like biking, beach and generally just walking around town. I came back to order the Black version because it’s easy on the eyes for a more serious look, like travel or work. The backpack fits all my accessories like makeup case, sunglasses, large wallet, gum, perfume, and iPhone 7 Plus, headphones etc., with no problem. Definitely recommend this backpack as it’s got a feminine touch, verses some that look manly. This is perfect for both male and female, I just mean I like it for me, but my husband prefers a different Patagonia style. Oh well, I’m happy with this purchase and think it’s cool and sporty! Thanks Back Country :-)

Nice bag, but pricey for what you get

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used this bag for fly fishing over the last weekend. Worked well. Has two more pockets than the Cabela's Advanced Anglers Sling Pack, but it is twice the price. As far as a fly fishing day bag, it works really well, especially the strap pocket. You can also swing it around for easy pocket access. Definitely a luxury item.

I See What All The Rave Is About!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I finally broke down and bought this... At first, when I saw everyone wearing these I figured it was a fad that would die after a while and felt like such a nerd for buying one because I don't think I have had a sling pack since I was in 5th grade. Its almost like when you would wear your backpack with one strap to be cool... BUT... I realized why everyone is so in love with this sling! I am really not a purse gal and was really over dragging my backpack everywhere. They are actually very stylish and the sling holds everything I need it to and is the perfect crossover from a pack to a purse. So, If you are like me who drags everything around with them that is completely un-necessary this bag is perfect for you! I usually use it from work to the farmers market etc. (so hip) It holds all of my daily necessities I would put in my purse plus I can strap a jacket on it on my way to work.

My little on the go bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag is perfect to take anywhere: work, hiking, grocery store, beach, etc. It holds just enough of the necessities and puts itself in a very comfortable position on your back. Great work Patagonia!

    My new go-to bag

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Absolutely happy to finally get one of these sling bags. I thought it'd be too small but the bag has worked everywhere from the beach to the office. I can't stress how happy I am with it.

It is so light I forget I even have the bag on sometimes. The straps literally save my life when I need to pack an extra jacket. The pockets fit my galaxy just fine. The small zip pocket fits my keys AND my badge for work!

What is this? Made for Elves?

I'm surprised at all of the 5* reviews! I'm a huge fan of Patagonia and have a staple of their products, but this Atom bag is extremely lackluster for the price. I give only 1 star for the warranty and 1 star for the material. However, it gets zero stars for real world utility. Personally, I'm a woman who doesn't like to carry purses. I prefer slings, crossbodies, and satchels. So, I thought this would be right up my alley!

I wanted a bag that I could carry daily in a tight minimalist package. The "package" is tight, alright. This bag is way too small and can only hold some of your essential items. The phone pocket with "stretch mesh" barely stretches at all. Basically, only very tiny thin phones will fit. The best use is to carry my keys in it and maybe my ID/travel card.

This so-called "sling" is the equivalent of a woman's clutch purse. All looks and almost no substance. If Patagonia were going to ask me how they should update this sling to be truly useful in the modern world, I'd offer them these few pointers:

      1. The stretch mesh pocket on the strap should actually stretch. It's just too small to fit medium-size phones.

      2. Expand the depth of the inside 14L. That way, it could fit not only tablets, but also a small ultra book. I'm self-employed and do a lot of work on the go.

      3. The front pocket should expand across the entire bag. They literally only give you have a pocket of space. So, when the small pocket is stuffed. It looks really crammed on only one half of the bag and flat on the other half. In other words, it looks lopsided.

I'm just so disappointed. A slightly larger (12-14L) sling with good pocket clearance, but a nice no frills structure was exactly what I was looking for, but this isn't it. I'll keep it mainly because it's the best replacement for my laptop bag that I can find that isn't too bulky or lacking aestheticly.

      Do better, Pat...

      Perfect travel/concert bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used this for air travel to either concerts or music festivals in other cities and have to say this is by far my favorite bag I have ever owned. To be perfectly honest this is purse that looks sporty enough to pass as a pack. There is plenty of room with straps to lash as big enough jacket as you need. The best feature is that they designed the bag to allow you to easily slide the bag to your front side with everything easily accessible.

      love, love, love this!

just arrived today, so quick by the way, tore it open and could not be happier. ordered for an upcoming european river cruise trip. wanted something a bit sporty, practical and easy to wear and keep with me at all times. this bag appears quite small, but don't let that scare you. it has plenty of room for what you need. lots of hidden areas and expansion designed in the bag. looks great, simple, super comfortable as well! perfect!

        Versatile Storage

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pack is awesome and can be used for an unlimited number of uses; from cross-country skiing to a disc golf (frolf) bag. It has an internal pocket which is great for holding items secure, and the general pocket holds quite alot of space. My favorite features are the two straps on the front, which allow for a jacket and a number of other items to be secured to the front. The strap on this pack is easy to adjust and is extremely comfortable; even unnoticeable at times. My friend saw me using this a few times and next thing I know, he got himself one. Another great and unique product from Patagonia!

        Travel Friendly

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm a woman who hates carrying a purse -- I prefer to put things in my pockets, but with women's clothing having small or even fake pockets and phones getting bigger and bigger these days, that's not always a feasible or good looking option. Purses also aren't super versatile or functional most of the time.

The Patagonia Atom 8L Sling is a great alternative because it has the convenience and small size of a purse, while being functional, durable, and sits on the body more securely than a regular purse would. You could wear this around town, to work, on a hike, or even biking in the city or park (I wouldn't use this for mountain biking/downhill biking though as it has the potential to slide around or be awkward).

That being said, I'm really pleased with this bag! I've never really used a sling style bag, but after seeing a co-worker's older Atom I became interested. Not having weight on one shoulder doesn't feel as weird as I thought it would, and I really like that I don't have a bag swinging around my side when I'm walking. It also looks different than a traditional backpack which I like as well.

Things I have fit in this bag with extra room/without bulk:
        - (1) 300-400 page book
        - A wallet
        - iPhone 7+
        - Beanie
        - Hairbrush
        - Miscellaneous women's products
        - Pen/pencil
        - Earbuds
        - Glasses case
        - Chapstick
        - Keys

I could probably fit more items in here if i wanted to, but even that list has more than I usually carry with me on a day to day basis. The folds in the front of the sling are neat because they stretch to free up more space if you are carrying a lot of things. The pocket on the strap is another nice feature for things like chapstick, cash, earbuds, gum, etc. The two straps on the outside can be used to strap things to the pack as well. This is a perfect travel bag for any occasion.

Color -- true to the photo. I went with the Sprouted Green color and it's the same shade/brightness as it is on the website.

Perfect for a small carry-on bag.

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this bag for my girlfriend as a gift, seeing she had an upcoming trip to California and wanted a smaller bag for flying and hiking. This performed admirably, seeing its ultra-portable size and comfy sling-style carry. There's a small front-zip pocket on the front, plus a larger main compartment with a stretch sleeve for a compact tablet. Its simplicity is one of its biggest strengths, especially when you don't need to haul a bunch of stuff.

        Fabulous and Convenient

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great for hiking because it perfectly fits a water bottle plus some other small things. It is also perfect for music festivals because you can keep it close to your body and move it to the front. Doesn't sag like a backpack either

        Unanswered Question

Ditto on the size of the tablet pocket ... hard to find specs on that bad boy....
