Why We Like The Gravelking SS 650b Tire

Panaracer perfected the Gravelking SS 650b Tire to feature an all-new tread pattern that allows us to speed into corners and maintain absolute control through those tough and choppy gravel surfaces we love to cruise. This is a durable tire with a puncture-resistant belt, Panaracer's Zero Slip Grip compound, and a supple 126 TPI casing. The Gravelking SS's tread pattern is smooth with a diamond pattern center and more aggressive side lugs for smooth rolling and reliable control. We like it for everything from adventure rides on backroads and gravel paths to race days where we count on every advantage a tire could provide.

Easy Install and Smooth

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Mounted these to a set of Hunt carbon rims. Unlike the Gravel King slicks in 700c that are too loose, making them difficult to seat, the SS were the right amount of difficulty to install (barely requiring a tire lever) and seated on the rim first try with an air compressor. They needed sealant to hold air, but once sealant was added were ready to go. They are smooth on pavement and did great on the sandy roads where I now live. Going from 40 to 48 makes a huge difference in the deeper sand. The SS are slower than the gravel king slicks, but are fast on pavement for a gravel tire. The slicks are not really a gravel tire, puncturing often when gravel, as opposed to pavement and dirt, are on the menu. I could use the lightening fast slick on the sandy roads here, but would not be confident taking them anywhere else. The SS are clearly more robust. I would take these SS tires anywhere but a trail where I need knobs.
