Panning for gold is no picnic, but the fleece-lined Outdoor Research Yukon Hat will keep your head warm while you scour the Tombstone Mountains for the mother lode. Earflaps snap to the hat when not needed and drop down to prevent earsicles.

    Ingenious Design

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have bought so many hats, looking for the right one with earflaps. After buying a few cheap ones on Ebay, that I hate, I decided to pay real money for sheepskin made in Canada. Too warm! Not practical.

I took a chance on the Yukon and Whitefish.
The Yukon is handsome and sporty, and will keep your ears from burning from chilly breezes, but is not for the coldest weather. I use the Whitefish for strong bitterly cold winds.

Surprised by the exceptional quality and perfect density of the material. The folding brim is clever and useful. If you need more coverage and warmer, get the Whitefish or a sheepskin trooper hat.

classic cap for kids & adults

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

my 8 year old son loves the style of hat and after searching everywhere for a kids size version I settled on this in a size small and it fits perfectly for him. its a handsome tweed wool on the outside that makes it pretty waterproof for walks to the bus & back. the synthetic fleece inside is cozy but not comically thick like the trendier trapper hat versions on the market. the split in the brim, making it packable was a bonus for when it ends up in his back pack. I would highly recommend this for kids or adults. its a classic hat.

Northern Alberta/B.C Canada.. Outside all weather conditions, all times of day and night and all seasons. Love this hat. Obviously not survival gear but for day to day use perfect. I rock a shaved head all year and my head is always toasty warm.I bought a small which is a size or two ( pending on manufacture ) than I normally wear. It did stretch a bit and is now my best fitting hat no matter the weather. I highly recommend this hat . Will be buying more. Also the main reason I bought this hat is the split brim so you can fold it and put it in your back pocket or travel.

      Wool content not correct

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The item was fine although I never used it due to it not meeting the wool content specs given- 70% wool. The tag says it is 70% polyester 30% wool. I bought it for the higher wool content represented, but not accurate. I will be returning. Three stars for it being a decent hat just not enough wool.

      Wool content not correct

      Very poor customer service

I ordered this hat. Not only was the product of poor quality but it was a real ordeal trying to return the product. The link to create the return label is “fake” and the print link does not work.

        I don't have THAT big a head

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 145lbs

I followed the sizing specs and purchased a large, even though my head size is generally a medium across the board. Sure enough, large was too large. Follow your usual.

        I got a second one

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: XL
        • Height: 6'3"
        • Weight: 190lbs

After years of use I got a second one. This is my most used cap. This keeps the snow off my glasses and ears, great for shoveling lots of snow. Plus it stays in my suburban or daypack almost year around, great for cold summer mornings in the mountains here. Stuffs into my daypack great, I have a stuff sun hat for when it gets warmer. My old one has been through the wash, no dryer, several times and still wears/looks like new. sizing, well the xl fits me like a glove, I wear 2xl moto helmets, starts with a K ends with M, the other is a Shoe with a i.

Colors way off, material very thin

The color I purchased was "Black/Earth" and the colors in the photo are way off. In the photo, the colors have a warm reddish hue and you can see blue spots. The actual hat colors look washed out and muted. The material is extremely thin and barely covers your ears- this is NOT a hat for a cold day. The hat feels cheap and not worth the price in my opinion.

Hey Shawn, I am so sorry that you didnt like this hat. I will send your feedback to our designers. This is one of our best sellers, so I was surprised to read this. Thanks so much for writing, and I am sorry for my delayed response in getting to you!

          OR Rep

          Lumberjack chic

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
          • Fit: True to size

This is a pretty comfy, warm hat. It excels on chilly dog walks, but when the breeze kicks up, the lack of tie downs for the ear flaps leaves something to be desired.

Hey RT - Leta with OR here. Seems ike we might want to add some stiffening to the ear flaps to keep them down. I can completely understand what you are saying, but you are right about lumberjack chic! It looks good, and although we have lots of other options that work functionally better around the ears, this one is trying to hit a "look" as well. I'll pass on the feedback.

Thanks so much for the review,

Cold air comes thru the flaps

          • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
          • Fit: True to size

This is not a great hat for keeping the ears warm. The flaps don't lay flat on my ears and the button holes allow cold air in as well. Not made for really cold weather. Just my opinion.

Keeps the noggin warm and glasses clear

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times
          • Fit: True to size

nice hat, soft and good fit. I like it. the fit guide is spot on. Ill see if it holds up a couple years and make it a 5 if so.

          Best wool hat

This is the best wool hat available in XL size, with a brim and ear flaps. The shorter brim is great for keeping the rain or snow off my eyeglasses. Longer brims on other hats usually get in the way of seeing up, especially tromping around the woods. The double layer keeps my head warm in most cold temps except when the wind blows hard. Comfortable too.

You mentioned wearing this in snow and rain. How well does this hat repel water/moisture? I love the look of this hat but hestitate buying it since I live the Seattle area with its typical misty and rainy winters. Advice?

            Funky Town

Love this hat. It's fun and practical. I had it with me all of last winter and would skin with it on cold days. If you have a helmet, it fits easily in your backcountry pack or you can throw goggles on and sport it for the down.
