They changed the design

Originally this hat was AWESOME, then they redesigned it. Now materials and design don't match my needs. Reviewing wistfully the original. Really liked the original fabric it had a very short brushed fleece that wears like iron (I still have the original hat and will keep it until it falls apart) . It is two layers perhaps with an inner wind block layer because -10 and windy my head is usually not feeling cold. It is low domed and soft enough to contour to my head. The ear flaps sit snug against my ears and the stretch fabric at the back of my neck is contoured so when I look up the hat doesn't get pushed off my head. The stretch fabric at the back of the neck also keeps the hat on my head even when cutting firewood or tumbling down a ski slope. I donated the brand new hat to the local church it was that disappointing. Bring back the original it was higher quality and a better design.

Love this hat ...

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I had one of these for about 6 years. I was so bummed when I lost it at some point this winter but do happy too find these in stock here. There are only two sizes. I originally choose the larger size but had to exchange it for the smaller one. Other hats of this shape that I tried did not hug my head and stay on like this one does. It is warm, stays on, and looks good too. I bought two ... just in case I lose one again.

Toasty Warm

Very comfortable full fleece lining hat which keeps your head toasty warm due to its GORE-TEX® WINDSTOPPER® technology which minimizes head heat loss. The Wind Warrior also provides full coverage of the ears and upper neck which further prevents heat from escaping.

Not the most appealing, but...

This hat is certainly not the most attractive, but it is clearly super comfortable. It sits deep over the ears, it's warm, it blocks the wind but OR had thought about your hearing by strategically placing pieces of fabric that don't block sound from your surroundings. If you want to be comfortable in sub-zero temperatures, for moderate to static activities, this is exactly what you need!

Best Boggan I've ever purchased

My ears don't get cold. Ohio, zero degrees with negative wind chill and my head is warm. Haven't tried it in rain yet but the snow fall is fine. Doesn't get soggy or cold in the snow fall. If you're looking for something to cover your whole ear and keep you warm even in the negatives this is it.

Great design, very poor size choices

Warm and functional, especially in the wind. But the size choices are poor. S/M is very tight around my forehead. L/XL sticks up above my head like a dunce cap, but when I try to pull it down it covers my eyes. For a hat made of fabric with little stretch, having only two sizes to cover the whole range of heads just does not make any sense.

Warm!

A very warm beanie. Keeps the ears nice and warm too. It looks dorky, and muffles sound. A small price to pay for staying warm. Great for lonely low output activities in the wind and cold.

Really weird hat with a big problem

Wearing this hat reminds me of wearing a stethoscope. The hat is so rigid and windproof that it acts like the membrane on a stethoscope, transmitting any little sounds directly into your ears. I can hear my own heart beating when I wear this hat. I can hear the wind hitting it. Anything brushing it sounds like something touching a stethoscope. The hat specifically advertises that it has different fabric over the hears to help you hear, so the sound issue is extra annoying. This problem is made worse by the fact that this hat is just way too tall. If I pull it down all the way, it covers my eyes, and the part that is supposed to go over your ears to let you hear better is below my ears. I often find that beanies are too short, so it's not my head size that is making this hat too tall. And it sticks almost two inches above my head. This also creates a pocket of air between your head and the hat that, if anything pushes down on it, will make the hat act like a bellows, blowing out the hot air, and then re-inflating (since it's stiff, it re-inflates itself) with cold air. Genuinely have a hard time believing anyone tested this hat before it made it as a real product. It's too bad, because it would be a great hat if it wasn't 2 inches too tall.

Comfortable, warm hat

A warm, comfortable hate that also will hold up to snow and light rain. Note that the material is heavy enough that the ear flaps will impact your ability to hear, something I keep in mind in grizzly country. One-hundred percent satisfied.
