    Blocks the breeze with ease.

Even in warmer weather, high-altitude winds can cool you down in a hurry, but the Outdoor Research Whirlwind Men's Hooded Jacket stops the breeze from chilling your core when you're climbing or hiking. This wind-resistant softshell is made from a highly breathable and partially recycled stretch  fabric for knit-like softness and protection against light showers, and boasts a zippered chest pocket that secures daily accessories and doubles as a stuff sack for convenient storage. Internal thumbholes protect your hands in cool, not-quite-glove temperatures.

    Packable and versatile

    • Height: 5'10"

I love this piece, lighter and more packable than my Ferrosi jacket, doesn't have the full zip or hand pockets. Great layering piece, I use it under my Rab Windveil, or a Houdini to make an excellent versatile layering system.

    Great all around protective shell

My go to jacket on windy days and cooler evenings. Works great with light fleece underneath. Protects well in wind and light rain. Fit is absolutely perfect for me. 6'4" 170 large fits very well to body and great arm length which I have a problem with a lot of other jacket brands. I have found that outdoor research trim jackets fit me very well. Hood fits well too. Although does not fit well over helmet.

I absolutely love this jacket! It is extremely comfortable and has incredible versatility! The polyester and spandex softshell feels great on my skin and is incredibly breathable, even as it keeps most of the wind and rain out. I use this jacket for climbing, biking, running, and even sitting here in the office. It does a great job of regulating body temperature and I find it comfortable as a stand alone piece (just a t-shirt underneath) in temps from 45-75. The long arms and center back length make this a great jacket for active pursuits where wind and moisture might be a factor.

I included a picture of the jacket packed into it's chest pocket, iPhone 6s for scale.

Is this this jacket a hooded version of ferrosi windshirt? I like my ferrosi hooded jacket but find its full zip annoying.

      Best Answer

No, it's not. The fabric is a bit softer and "tighter" than the Ferrosi, meaning not quite as open a weave as the Ferrosi. I use the Ferrosi and this, and this one fits more like a layering windshirt, and the Ferrosi fits a little looser. Hope that helps!
